Book Output and Inflation Co movement

Download or read book Output and Inflation Co movement written by Michal Andrle and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-01-18 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the drivers of business cycle fluctuations? And how many are there? By documenting strong and predictable co-movement of real variables during the business cycle in a sample of advanced economies, we argue that most business cycle fluctuations are driven by one major factor. The positive co-movement of real output and inflation convincingly argues for a demand story. We propose a simple statistic that can compare data and models. Based on this statistic, we show that the recent vintage of structural economic models has difficulties replicating the stylized facts we document.

Book Cyclical Growth in Market and Planned Economies

Download or read book Cyclical Growth in Market and Planned Economies written by Claude Hillinger and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive approach for analysing and explaining economic fluctuations developed by the editor and his associates at the University of Munich over the last two decades. The approach is distinct from both Keynesianism and Real Business Cycle Theory--the dominant macroeconomic paradigms of recent decades, and is representative of an alternative: the Disequilibrium Theory of Cyclical Growth. Following the methodology of the natural sciences, the book emphasizes the need for determining the stylized facts of economic fluctuations independently of the explanatory models. New methods for analysing short economic time series are employed.

Book Technical Progress and Economic Growth

Download or read book Technical Progress and Economic Growth written by Franco Nardini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we intend to discuss economic fluctuations and growth and possible stabilizing fiscal policies. Since these topics are major preoccupa tions of economic theorists and have been extensively discussed since the classics, one may wonder why another book on these subjects. A possible defense is that we are going to do so in the framework of a two-sector model where the main featureS of each sector depend on the characteristics of the goods produced by the sector itself. The conventional wisdom suggests that the problem of (dis )aggregation in growth and business cycle theory is basically a quantitative one: the model should consider as many sectors, goods, and agents as necessary to provide a sufficiently rich picture, the upper bound obviously resulting from the tractability of the problem. In this attitude the same equilibrium (or diseqUilibrium) assumptions generally hold true throughout all sectors. Here we want to prove the relevance of an alternative approach: we look at the qualitative differences across sectors and at the peculiarities of each market as at the determinants of the economic dynamics. This tradition goes back over one hundred years to Tugan-Baranowkj and has been de veloped by Aftalion, Fanno, Spiethof, and Lowe, but has never been sys tematically formalized.
