Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Rhapsody of Kashmir, his fifth collection of poetry, Kashmiri-American poet, Maharaj Kaul, describes Kashmir, the land of his ancestors, after the civil war of 1989. He saw the wanton destruction of human beings and homes, milieu and culture. He laments: The clandestine evil schemes of 80s Hatched in our neighbor country Coalesced into one infernal insane fire in 89, Destroying the finely woven culture of a millennia in the valley, Disturbing the tranquility of a million years among the mountains. A friend turned into a murderer, A neighbor into an arsonist; A community acquiesced to become an army. An angelic valley became a death valley All in the name of God and religion. (From the poem Roots.) In his preface to the book he writes: The ongoing political crises in Kashmir, born in 1947, has mutilated the soul of Kashmir. The political heroes of the crises have no idea of the damage they have done to it. It will take a long time before the soul of Kashmir is healed,. But Maharaj Kaul has a hope that one day Kashmir will be reborn: But the idea of Kashmir is still not dead, There is hope, in fact, a dream, that one day it will be reborn And reconnect with its past glory. Then we will not mourn the lost time, But celebrate mans infinite resilience, To forget, to forgive, to recreate, and move on. (From the poem The Shattered Dream of Kashmir)

Book Tribal Invasion and Kashmir

Download or read book Tribal Invasion and Kashmir written by Dr Shabir Choudhry and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tribal Invasion was a contentious and significant action, because of its serious consequences; and because it clearly violated the Standstill Agreement concluded between Pakistan and the Ruler of Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, it resulted in death and destruction of thousands of innocent people; and it forced the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir to seek help from India, which was only made available after the provisional accession to India. Apart from that it divided our motherland resulting in enormous problems for thousands of families on both sides of the divide. It should also be remembered that the Tribal Invasion, apart from other problems also resulted in the first India and Pakistan war, bringing its own problems, animosity and divisions. Both governments since 1947 have spent billions of dollars on arms and have had three wars over control of Jammu and Kashmir. Both governments have enormous problems related to poverty, education and welfare; but because of the competition to control Jammu and Kashmir, they continue to divert money for military preparedness and continue to develop more and more lethal weapons.

Book Solving Kashmir

Download or read book Solving Kashmir written by Mohan C. Bhandari and published by Lancer Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solving Kashmir is a treatise on the Kashmir imbroglio that gives a deep insight into the myriad facets of the dispute in the State of JandK. It brings into focus the historical perspective, the geo-strategic and geo-political imperatives, as also the interests of the world powers and other regional players especially Pakistan and to an extent China. This vital piece of real estate located in the under belly of the CARS and Russia gives access to Tibet, Afghanistan and Pakistan. JandK is strategically significant to India's existence as a nation. Historically, Kashmir has been an important gateway for marauders entering the country. Losing control of JandK would open up the floodgates again. Kashmir gives India access to the strategically significant countries around JandK. It is our jewel in the crown. The main players in the dispute namely, India and Pakistan have gone to war four times over the issue with Pakistan enduring humiliating defeats, including its partition with the creation of Bangladesh. Having failed in its conventional attempts to wrest Kashmir and still in search of its identity, Pakistan has exercised the low cost/ no cost proxy war option, exploiting the ethnic and religious sentiments of the local Kashmiris, as also drumming up support from religious fundamentalists internationally. The nuclear dimension adding to the tinder box forces the international community of nations to concentrate efforts to bring the two nations to the negotiating table and resolve the problem bilaterally in accordance with the Shimla Agreement, however, with no significant success. How long will India continue to bleed? and "Where do you go from here?" are questions that willcontinue to haunt India for years to come.

Book Iqbal

  • Author : Zafar Anjum
  • Publisher : Random House India
  • Release : 2014-10-13
  • ISBN : 818400656X
  • Pages : 296 pages

Download or read book Iqbal written by Zafar Anjum and published by Random House India. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Allama Mohammad Iqbal, whom Sarojini Naidu called the ‘Poet laureate of Asia’, remains a controversial figure in the history of the Indian subcontinent. On the one hand, he is considered the ‘Spiritual Father of Pakistan’. On the other, his message of Eastern revivalism places him in the ranks of the twentieth century’s major intellectuals. Iqbal’s tragedy was that after his death, he was made the national poet of Pakistan and largely ignored in India. In his time, he was lauded as much as Tagore, but today India celebrates Tagore while Iqbal has been banished from her consciousness. This meticulously researched biography will redress that erasure. This is the story of Iqbal’s evolution as a poet, philosopher and politician. While his role in the struggle for India’s freedom and the Pakistan movement are well known, not much is known about his personal life. This book highlights some of the least known facets of the poet’s life: how did a nationalist poet transform into a poet of Islamic revivalism and global revolution? How did three years in Europe change Iqbal’s political and philosophical outlook? Why did he start writing in Persian during his stay in Europe? Why did his first marriage fail and how did his romantic relationships affect him? What exactly was the poet’s role in bringing about Partition? Written with the passion of an ardent devotee, Zafar Anjum’s Iqbal answers all of these questions—and many more—in this carefully told biography.
