The poet challenges these concepts through every single piece of poetry and vignette. Dangerous situations never cease from occurring and to wade through them, one has to be as soft, innocent and believing as the lotuses. Living every single day is a challenge and she was told since my birth that living is harder, that’s why one must scale it every day and not run to his or her own death. While she is still figuring out why is it so essential to live and not die until the time is ripe? Why is it so important to focus on the brighter side? What is there on the darker side? Is it really impossibly vast to manage or is darkness really as dark as people fear it is? Brushing aside confusion she still is figuring out answers to these questions. The book is a part of her journey and giving it a place is like giving life another chance. Women must find inspiration every day and so should children. Celebrating life and death both through the verses as well as the all permeating love that is the only way to live beyond these walls of manmade dilemma. When you read through the verses or the vignettes, you will read through your superficial as well as your deeper self.

Book excerpt: The inspiration for Expats, a new series starring Nicole Kidman coming soon to Prime Video. “Devastating and heartwarming, and exquisite in every way, this is a book you’ll fall deeply in love with and never want to put down.” —Kevin Kwan, author of Crazy Rich Asians From the New York Times bestselling author of The Piano Teacher, a searing novel of marriage, motherhood, and the search for connection far from home. In the glittering city of Hong Kong, expats arrive daily for myriad reasons—to find or lose themselves in a foreign place, and to forget or remake themselves far from home. Amidst this hothouse atmosphere, a tragic incident causes three American women’s lives to collide in ways that will rewrite every assumption of their privileged world: Mercy, a young Korean American and recent Columbia graduate, once again finds herself compromised and adrift, trying to start her life anew; Hilary, a wealthy housewife, is haunted by her struggle to have a child, hoping to save her uncertain marriage; meanwhile, Margaret, once the enviable mother of three, tries to negotiate an existence that has become utterly unrecognizable after a catastrophic event. Faced with unthinkable choices, these three women form a profound connection that defies the norms of the sequestered community—finding in each other a strength borne of need, forgiveness, and ultimately hope. Atmospheric and utterly compelling, The Expatriates showcases Lee’s exceptional talent as one of our keenest observers of women’s inner lives.

Book They Marched Into Sunlight

Download or read book They Marched Into Sunlight written by David Maraniss and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2003-10-14 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Maraniss tells the epic story of Vietnam and the sixties through the events of a few gripping, passionate days of war and peace in October 1967. With meticulous and captivating detail, They Marched Into Sunlight brings that catastrophic time back to life while examining questions about the meaning of dissent and the official manipulation of truth—issues that are as relevant today as they were decades ago. In a seamless narrative, Maraniss weaves together the stories of three very different worlds: the death and heroism of soldiers in Vietnam, the anger and anxiety of antiwar students back home, and the confusion and obfuscating behavior of officials in Washington. To understand what happens to the people in these interconnected stories is to understand America's anguish. Based on thousands of primary documents and 180 on-the-record interviews, the book describes the battles that evoked cultural and political conflicts that still reverberate.

Book Questions from the City Answers from the Forest

Download or read book Questions from the City Answers from the Forest written by Ajahn Sumano Bhikkhu and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2013-09-20 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Sincere inquiry always sparks our movement towards truth. Deep questions signal the manifestation of the very energy through which we outgrow ourselves." -- from the Introduction. Born in Chicago, a law school graduate and real estate professional, Ajahn Sumano abandoned his comfortable American lifestyle for the begging bowl and simple cave home of an ordained Buddhist monk in the tradition of the Thai forest meditation masters. In 1994-95, he conducted a series of question and answer evenings at a guest house in Thailand's Kowyai National Park with English-speaking tourists eager to meet a Western Buddhist monk. The heartfelt questions of these "city" people and the clear and penetrating answers Sumano gave from his "forest" perspective form the basis of this remarkable book. Written on a battered, battery-powered laptop in his meditation cave, Sumano's enchanting personal story and his refreshingly down-to-earth blend of American sensibility and Eastern practice will fascinate newcomers to Buddhist ideas as well as experienced practitioners.

Book The Poetry of He Zhu 1052 1125

Download or read book The Poetry of He Zhu 1052 1125 written by Stuart Howard Sargent and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Northern Song poet He Zhu is best known for his lyrics (ci) but also produced shi poetry of subtlety, wit, and feeling. This study examines the latter as a response to the options available to a late-eleventh century writer in the pentametrical and heptametrical forms of Ancient Verse, Regulated Verse, and Quatrains. Numerous comparisons are made with Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Du Fu, and other important writers. In a major advance over previous methodologies, the author uses a clear system of metrical notation to show how sound patterns reveal the poet's artistic and emotional intentions. This innovation and the author's other meticulous explorations of He Zhu's artistry allow us to experience Chinese poetry as never before. From the reader's report: "not just an excellent study of an individual poet but also a model of reading the language of classical Chinese poetry. [..] opens up a world of interpretive territory heretofore seldom explored."
