Download or read book Thermoplastics and Thermoplastic Composites written by Michel Biron and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-04-26 with total page 919 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermoplastics represent appx 90% by weight of all plastics consumed world-wide. We know them mainly in the form of polythenes, polyolefins, polystyrenes, nylons and acrylics. Under different heating conditions and by varying the composition of the plastic it is possible to make many different products with differing properties. This is a decision-making tool and source-book of information for plastics users, providing detailed accounts of the materials used, their economics, the selection of appropriate materials, and the use of thermoplastic resins and their composites. By having this book to hand, you will use the right material in the right way to produce the right product.·Provides a quick and pragmatic approach to selecting thermoplastics for the non-specialist plastics user·Offers detailed accounts of thermoplastics including economic and technological elements·Clear and easy to understand illustrated with figures, tables and graphs throughout

Download or read book Piping Handbook written by Mohinder L. Nayyar and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 1999-11-04 with total page 2520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instant answers to your toughest questions on piping components and systems! It's impossible to know all the answers when piping questions are on the table - the field is just too broad. That's why even the most experienced engineers turn to Piping Handbook, edited by Mohinder L. Nayyar, with contribution from top experts in the field. The Handbook's 43 chapters--14 of them new to this edition--and 9 new appendices provide, in one place, everything you need to work with any type of piping, in any type of piping system: design layout selection of materials fabrication and components operation installation maintenance This world-class reference is packed with a comprehensive array of analytical tools, and illustrated with fully-worked-out examples and case histories. Thoroughly updated, this seventh edition features revised and new information on design practices, materials, practical applications and industry codes and standards--plus every calculation you need to do the job.
Download or read book Polymer Data Handbook written by James E. Mark and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2009 with total page 1250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition includes better values of properties already reported, properties not reported in time for the earlier edition, and entirely new properties becoming important for modern polymer applications. It also contains 217 total polymers, 20 of which are all-new, particularly in high-technology areas such as eletrical conductivity, non-linear optical properties, microlithography, nanophotonics, and electroluminescences. Examples of specific polymers include silsesquoxane ladder polymers, 'foldamer' self-assembling polymers, and block copolymers that phase separate into 'mushrooms', ellipsoids, and sheets with on surface radically different in properties from the other.
Download or read book Designing Design written by Kenya Hara and published by Lars Muller Publishers. This book was released on 2015-01-25 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Representing a new generation of designers in Japan, Kenya Hara (born 1958) pays tribute to his mentors, using long overlooked Japanese icons and images in much of his work. In Designing Design, he impresses upon the reader the importance of emptiness in both the visual and philosophical traditions of Japan, and its application to design, made visible by means of numerous examples from his own work: Hara for instance designed the opening and closing ceremony programs for the Nagano Winter Olympic Games 1998. In 2001, he enrolled as a board member for the Japanese label MUJI and has considerably moulded the identity of this successful corporation as communication and design advisor ever since. Kenya Hara, alongside Naoto Fukasawa one of the leading design personalities in Japan, has also called attention to himself with exhibitions such as Re-Design: The Daily Products of the 21st Century.
Download or read book Lignocellulose Conversion written by Vincenza Faraco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioethanol has been recognized as a potential alternative to petroleum-derived transportation fuels. Even if cellulosic biomass is less expensive than corn and sugarcane, the higher costs for its conversion make the near-term price of cellulosic ethanol higher than that of corn ethanol and even more than that of sugarcane ethanol. Conventional process for bioethanol production from lignocellulose includes a chemical/physical pre-treatment of lignocellulose for lignin removal, mostly based on auto hydrolysis and acid hydrolysis, followed by saccharification of the free accessible cellulose portions of the biomass. The highest yields of fermentable sugars from cellulose portion are achieved by means of enzymatic hydrolysis, currently carried out using a mix of cellulases from the fungus Trichoderma reesei. Reduction of (hemi)cellulases production costs is strongly required to increase competitiveness of second generation bioethanol production. The final step is the fermentation of sugars obtained from saccharification, typically performed by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The current process is optimized for 6-carbon sugars fermentation, since most of yeasts cannot ferment 5-carbon sugars. Thus, research is aimed at exploring new engineered yeasts abilities to co-ferment 5- and 6-carbon sugars. Among the main routes to advance cellulosic ethanol, consolidate bio-processing, namely direct conversion of biomass into ethanol by a genetically modified microbes, holds tremendous potential to reduce ethanol production costs. Finally, the use of all the components of lignocellulose to produce a large spectra of biobased products is another challenge for further improving competitiveness of second generation bioethanol production, developing a biorefinery.
