Book Spandrel or Fitrah An Essay on the Relationship between Cognitive Science of Religion and Fitrah

Download or read book Spandrel or Fitrah An Essay on the Relationship between Cognitive Science of Religion and Fitrah written by Osman Zahid Çifçi and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professorial Dissertation from the year 2023 in the subject Philosophy - Theoretical (Realisation, Science, Logic, Language), grade: 1,0, Selçuk University (Faculty of Islamic Studies), course: philosophy and religious studies, language: English, abstract: This paper analyzes the two concepts of "spandrel" and "fitrah" in the context of the Cognitive Science of Religion and, opposed to that, evolutionary thinking. Despite that the two concepts in this study's title seem to have the same meaning, they are understood differently due to differences in perspective. Both concepts acknowledge that human beings have certain innate faculties and claim that these faculties predispose them to believe and be moral. Spandrel argues that these innate faculties are a result of adaptations that enable us to survive in the evolutionary process, while "fitrah" asserts that these faculties are given by God. In the study, first, the experimental studies proposed by the proponents of the idea of spandrel and the general ideas of the Cognitive Science of Religion (CSR) are given. Then, it has been established, through experimental tests, that these faculties, proposed by this theory, have similar aspects with the "Commonsense Principles" put forward by Thomas Reid, and his epistemological views have been conveyed. According to him, we should rely on the information provided by these faculties and accept that they are essential for reasoning. After these determinations were made, the study argued that the concept of "fitrah" aligns with the idea of the Cognitive Science of Religion (CSR) and Thomas Reid's views.

In this volume, several scholars examine the role of the Islamic voluntary sector (broadly defined) in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore. and Thailand, and explicate issues such as the mobilization, administration, and management of zakat and its various forms, waqf, and saddaqah.

Book Fitrah Mans Natural Disposition

Download or read book Fitrah Mans Natural Disposition written by MURTADHA. MUTAHHARI and published by . This book was released on 2021-11-27 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Fitrah: Man's Natural Disposition" is a translation of the Persian book "Fi?rat" by the great Muslim thinker and reformer, Ayatollah Murtada Mutahhari. "Fitrah" is the theme of a 10-session lecture series given the martyred thinker in 1976-77. With ample citations from the Qur'an and other traditional Islamic sources, Mutahhari discusses the concept of 'fitrah' or man's natural disposition. The author does not confine himself to Islamic references as he continuously engages with the views of a wide range of philosophers including Plato, William James, Russell, Nietzsche, Marx, Feuerbach, Auguste Comte, Spencer, Will Durant, and Durkheim, among others. Mutahhari's ontological discussion covers a range of issues, including the literal and technical meaning of 'fitrah', sacred inclinations, love and worship, and the evolution of human originality. He also examines materialism and provides a theistic approach to some issues pertaining to the theories on the origin of religion, the evolution of human society, intrinsic and acquired guidance, and intuitive and sensory dispositions. This book lays a significant interconnected and deep foundation in Islamic theology and an understanding of human psychology, sociology and anthropology fully supported by the holy Quran, ahadith, logic and philosophy. The reader will leave with a holistic understanding of Islam and a true connection with the Almighty (SWT) through one own self.

Book excerpt: Human Nature in Islam explores what such luminaries as Ibn-Abd-al-Barr, the greatest scholar of Spain, ar-Raghib al-Isfahani and Ibn Taymiyyah have said about this pivotal term from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Yasien Mohamed tackles the work of writers closer to our own day. Ali Shariati and Sayyid Qutb, the dualism of whose views the author exposes with great courtesy and honesty. He contrasts fitrah with other views of human nature such as those of Freud, and B.F. Skinner and opens up the exciting possibility of Muslim thinkers throwing an entirely new light on the working of the human soul. --

Book Psychology of Personality

Download or read book Psychology of Personality written by Amber Haque and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychology of Personality: Islamic Perspectives is the first edited volume of selected papers on human nature and personality from an Islamic perspective. It is a modest attempt at clarifying the conceptual confusion that resulted in keeping psychology separate from religion, separate from a soul. The authors have incorporated religious and transcendental concepts that shape human personality, which are based on the Qur'ān and the works of early Muslim scholars. It is not a book on psychotherapy, however, the views on human nature are important for the development of an Islamic approach to therapy. The text is timely due to the increased attention to Islam and its significance in the lives of more than one billion adherents, and also because modern psychology is demonstrating a new interest in indigenous and alternative perspectives of psychology. It is hoped that this work will stimulate further research on the psychology of personality based on the Islamic assumptions of human nature. This book is targeted for students undertaking psychology course with emphasis on Islamic perspective. It is also suitable for researchers and scholars whose works are related to the Islamic psychology of personality.
