The fitness industry shows no signs of decelerating anytime in the imminent future. fitness industry competitors are poised to have prosperous, lucrative, and auspicious futures as disposable incomes rise among customers and as the desire to procure fitness club memberships builds traction worldwide among customers. Customers are making a more substantial investment in safeguarding their health. Procuring a fitness club membership offers customers the opportunity to vigorously workout on a daily basis. "Fitness clubs have ample exercise machines, such as rowing machines, treadmills, and stationary exercise bikes, and elliptical trainers, and workout equipment, such as barbells and dumbbells", for their members to utilize. Buying exercise machines and workout equipment can be expensive which is all the more reason why customers are enticed to procure a fitness club membership in order to be able to have access to exercise machines and workout equipment. Fitness clubs also offer group exercise classes, such as yoga classes and indoor cycling classes, and can even have sports facilities, such as swimming pools and and indoor running tracks, for their customer to access. The rising number of health clubs and gym with personal training and latest fitness equipment is attracting consumers to join the health and fitness clubs, which is likely to influence the market growth in upcoming years. Increasing equipment and facility spaces in fitness clubs, such as hot yoga studios, high altitude training rooms, metabolic testing equipment, medical exercise areas, and day spas are gaining popularity among the consumers, which is further supporting the market growth". The fitness industry has been able to robustly grow as a result of fitness industry competitors offering affordable membership fees and as a result of fitness industry competitors investing in digital marketing activities in order to entice more people to procure fitness club memberships. "Attractive membership fees offered by fitness clubs, increasing spending on marketing and advertisement, are helping the health and fitness clubs to generate more revenue". In the pending future, fitness industry competitors will continue to profusely invest in digital marketing activities in order to win over more members. In the coming years, the fitness industry is apt to experience robust growth partially as a result of people becoming more health conscious. "Globally, increased consumption of unhealthy food and sugar is causing obesity, which leads to diabetes."

Book Fitness Measures and Health Outcomes in Youth

Download or read book Fitness Measures and Health Outcomes in Youth written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-12-10 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical fitness affects our ability to function and be active. At poor levels, it is associated with such health outcomes as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Physical fitness testing in American youth was established on a large scale in the 1950s with an early focus on performance-related fitness that gradually gave way to an emphasis on health-related fitness. Using appropriately selected measures to collected fitness data in youth will advance our understanding of how fitness among youth translates into better health. In Fitness Measures and Health Outcomes in Youth, the IOM assesses the relationship between youth fitness test items and health outcomes, recommends the best fitness test items, provides guidance for interpreting fitness scores, and provides an agenda for needed research. The report concludes that selected cardiorespiratory endurance, musculoskeletal fitness, and body composition measures should be in fitness surveys and in schools. Collecting fitness data nationally and in schools helps with setting and achieving fitness goals and priorities for public health at an individual and national level.

Book Educating the Student Body

    Book Details:
  • Author : Committee on Physical Activity and Physical Education in the School Environment
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2013-11-13
  • ISBN : 0309283140
  • Pages : 503 pages

Download or read book Educating the Student Body written by Committee on Physical Activity and Physical Education in the School Environment and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-11-13 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical inactivity is a key determinant of health across the lifespan. A lack of activity increases the risk of heart disease, colon and breast cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, osteoporosis, anxiety and depression and others diseases. Emerging literature has suggested that in terms of mortality, the global population health burden of physical inactivity approaches that of cigarette smoking. The prevalence and substantial disease risk associated with physical inactivity has been described as a pandemic. The prevalence, health impact, and evidence of changeability all have resulted in calls for action to increase physical activity across the lifespan. In response to the need to find ways to make physical activity a health priority for youth, the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Physical Activity and Physical Education in the School Environment was formed. Its purpose was to review the current status of physical activity and physical education in the school environment, including before, during, and after school, and examine the influences of physical activity and physical education on the short and long term physical, cognitive and brain, and psychosocial health and development of children and adolescents. Educating the Student Body makes recommendations about approaches for strengthening and improving programs and policies for physical activity and physical education in the school environment. This report lays out a set of guiding principles to guide its work on these tasks. These included: recognizing the benefits of instilling life-long physical activity habits in children; the value of using systems thinking in improving physical activity and physical education in the school environment; the recognition of current disparities in opportunities and the need to achieve equity in physical activity and physical education; the importance of considering all types of school environments; the need to take into consideration the diversity of students as recommendations are developed. This report will be of interest to local and national policymakers, school officials, teachers, and the education community, researchers, professional organizations, and parents interested in physical activity, physical education, and health for school-aged children and adolescents.

Book Fitness Technology and Society

Download or read book Fitness Technology and Society written by Brad Millington and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fitness industry is experiencing a new boom characterized by the proliferation of interactive and customizable technology, from exercise-themed video games to smartphone apps to wearable fitness trackers. This new technology presents the possibility of boundless self-tracking, generating highly personalized data for self-assessment and for sharing among friends. While this may be beneficial – for example, in encouraging physical activity – the new fitness boom also raises important questions about the very nature of our relationship with technology. This is the first book to examine these questions through a critical scholarly lens. Addressing key themes such as consumer experience, gamification, and surveillance, Fitness, Technology and Society argues that fitness technologies – by ‘datafying’ the body and daily experience – are turning fitness into a constant pursuit. The book explores the origins of contemporary fitness technologies, considers their implications for consumers, producers, and for society in general, and reflects on what they suggest about the future of fitness experience. Casting new light on theories of technology and the body, this is fascinating reading for all those interested in physical cultural studies, technology, and the sociology of sport.

Book Learning to Breathe Fire

Download or read book Learning to Breathe Fire written by J.C. Herz and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The absorbing, definitive account of CrossFit's origins, its explosive grassroots growth, and its emergence as a global phenomenon. One of the most illuminating books ever on a sports subculture, Learning to Breathe Fire combines vivid sports writing with a thoughtful meditation on what it means to be human. In the book, veteran journalist J.C. Herz explains the science of maximum effort, why the modern gym fails an obese society, and the psychic rewards of ending up on the floor feeling as though you're about to die. The story traces CrossFit’s rise, from a single underground gym in Santa Cruz to its adoption as the workout of choice for elite special forces, firefighters and cops, to its popularity as the go-to fitness routine for regular Joes and Janes. Especially riveting is Herz’s description of The CrossFit Games, which begin as an informal throw-down on a California ranch and evolve into a televised global proving ground for the fittest men and women on Earth, as well as hundreds of thousands of lesser mortals. In her portrayal of the sport's star athletes, its passionate coaches and its “chief armorer,” Rogue Fitness, Herz powerfully evokes the uniqueness of a fitness culture that cultivates primal fierceness in average people. And in the shared ordeal of an all-consuming workout, she unearths the ritual intensity that's been with us since humans invented sports, showing us how, on a deep level, we're all tribal hunters and first responders, waiting for the signal to go all-out.
