Book Survey of Fishes Mammals and Herpetofauna of the Colorado River and Adjacent Riparian Areas of the Grand Canyon National Park Classic Reprint

Download or read book Survey of Fishes Mammals and Herpetofauna of the Colorado River and Adjacent Riparian Areas of the Grand Canyon National Park Classic Reprint written by Royal D. Suttkus and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Survey of Fishes, Mammals and Herpetofauna of the Colorado River and Adjacent Riparian Areas of the Grand Canyon National Park The senior author made six float trips down the Colorado River before engaging in a contract with the National Park Service. The first trip was taken in September 1970, starting at Lee's Ferry and terminating at Phantom Ranch. The next four float trips, August 1971, July 1972, May 1973, and August 1973, started at Lee's Ferry and ended at Temple Bar on the south shore of Mead Reservoir. The Sixth trip, May 1974, started at Lee's Ferry and terminated at Diamond Creek. Biological Specimens of the various groups were collected during these six trips and data from these Specimens are included in this report. Most of our effort was directed toward fishes and mammals during these early trips, for example 35 of the 112 fish collections and 36 of the 82 mammal collections were obtained during the six trips. The trips with the commercial river runners would have been much less productive were it not for the understanding and help given by a few boatmen. Outstanding in this regard was Patrick Conley. Book The University of Colorado Studies Vol 11 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The University of Colorado Studies Vol 11 Classic Reprint written by Francis Ramaley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The University of Colorado Studies, Vol. 11 Two features of the river systems of the state, taken collectively, are particularly noteworthy: (a) three distinct drainages are repre sented, the Mississippi, the Rio Grande and the Colorado; (6) all of the large streams of the state have their headwaters in the mountains within the state. Both the diversity of drainage areas and the large number Of headwater streams are the result of the presence of the Continental Divide in central Colorado, separating the lower, eastern and western portions. This division of the land areas by the moun tains has a very important bearing on the fish fauna as a whole, Since Often many of the fishes of independent drainages are different, and the conditions to which fishes are subjected in the headwater streams are always more rigorous than in the lowland streams. The position of the mountains in Colorado is also responsible for the direction of the larger streams, these flowing east or west, while their tributaries enter from the north and south. Book Final Recovery Implementation Program for Endangered Fish Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin Classic Reprint

Download or read book Final Recovery Implementation Program for Endangered Fish Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin Classic Reprint written by United States Department Of Th Interior and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-13 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Final Recovery Implementation Program for Endangered Fish Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin This document provides the framework upon which recovery of three species of endangered fish and the management of a fourth fish species in the Upper Colorado River Basin (1) is to be based and the concrete steps that are to be implemented as part of a comprehensive program for all four species, herein referred to as the recovery program. Three species, the Colorado squawfish, humpback chub, and bonytail chub, have been listed as endangered by the Secretary of the Interior under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. The fourth species, the razorback sucker, is a candidate for Federal listing under this Act. The ultimate goal of this recovery program in the upper basin is to recover and delist the three endangered species and to manage the razorback so it would not need the protection of the Endangered Species Act. This recovery program was developed as part of a cooperative effort that involved many of the agencies and organizations that have an interest in how the Upper Colorado River Basin and its resources are managed. Representatives from the States of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming; the u.s. Bureau Of Reclamation; the o.s. Fish and Wildlife Service; water development interests; and environmental organizations participated. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Birds of Colorado Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Birds of Colorado Classic Reprint written by Wells Woodbridge Cooke and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Birds of Colorado The notes on migration given in the following table are designed to show the different time at which the same species of birds arrive at different places and altitudes in Colorado as compared with the time of their arrival in the same latitude farther east and at a lower altitude. St. Louis, Mo., is thirty miles farther north than Fort Lyon, Colo., and one hundred and twenty miles south of Loveland, Colo. Hence, according to latitude, the birds should arrive in St. Louis about the same time as at Fort Lyon. But it is found that in fact they reach St. Louis on the average about twelve days before they appear at Fort Lyon. The dates Of arrival seem to indicate an aver age difference Of six days between Fort Lyon and Loveland. The distance between these two places is one hundred and fifty miles, or an average movement for the birds of twenty-five miles per day. This agrees quite closely with the average of twenty-eight miles per day that was found to be the usual speed of migration in the Mississippi valley. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Birds of Colorado West of the lo5th meridian, and rising with extra ordinary abruptness from the plains to the east, the Rocky Mountains occupy roughly the middle third of the State. In a very general way the system forms two parallel ranges running north and south, joined by subsidiary east and west connections; between these are the great mountain parks, open Wide valleys rather bare of trees, and situated at elevations of to feet. The chief of these are North and South Parks, drained by the North and South Platte rivers, which meet out in the plains of Nebraska and join the Missouri near Omaha Middle Park, drained by the Grand River, the principal af uent of the Colorado River of the west, draining into the Gulf of California; and the San Luis Valley, draining into the Rio Grande on the south.
