Book Innovations for investment financing small scale fisheries in Thailand

Download or read book Innovations for investment financing small scale fisheries in Thailand written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-05-04 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To make small-scale fisheries in Thailand more sustainable, fishers need to invest in responsible fishing operations and technologies, reduce overfishing, contribute to fisheries management, and implement climate change adaptation measures. Small-scale fishers often do not have access to financial services to innovate and to make the necessary transition to sustainable fishing operations. Access to financial services will help them to innovate and adopt measures that will provide social, economic and environmental returns, the desired triple bottom line. The Asia-Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA) and FAO, in collaboration with the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), implemented a project to analyse and improve the access of small-scale fishers to financial services in Thailand. The project identified the key finance and fisheries sector stakeholders, carried out surveys and interviews and conducted a techno-economic performance analysis of some major fishing fleets, to investigate the potential innovations for investment in small-scale fisheries. APRACA and BAAC drafted training materials and conducted various trainings on financing small-scale fisheries. The project also supported the launch of a national network for stakeholders involved in financing the fishing sector in Thailand (ThaiNet SSF). This circular provides a summary of the project achievements.

Book GameChanger Investing

Download or read book GameChanger Investing written by Hilary Kramer and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wall Street seems short on vision these days. Investors are living day to day, planning no further than the next quarterly earnings reports. That’s no way to invest. Former investment banker and hedge fund manager Hilary Kramer advocates a different approach: GameChanger Investing. Based on her thirty-plus years managing billions of investment dollars, Kramer—a globally recognized futurist—shows you how to make money and stay ahead of the wave in a constantly changing world. As long as people keep innovating, dreaming, and executing, great companies will grow and create wealth. But not all growth companies are created equal. From fintech to food-tech, information warfare to the Internet of Things, Kramer identifies the specific technologies, trends, and companies that are both changing the world and poised for significant stock appreciation. GameChanger Investing is visionary investing, but it’s not speculation. Kramer identifies companies with rock-solid fundamentals ready for catalysts that will turn them into major disruptors. Instead of fighting economic disruption or pretending it doesn’t exist, she helps you put disruption to work for your portfolio. Embrace the future and invest in tomorrow’s GameChanging billion-dollar trends. The secrets are in the pages of this book.

Book Responsible Fish Trade and Food Security

Download or read book Responsible Fish Trade and Food Security written by John Kurien and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report focuses primarily on the direct and indirect influences of fish trade and food security. It reviews in detail the positive and negative impacts of international fish trade on food security in low-income food-deficit countries. The main findings are that this trade has had a positive effect on food security, both through higher availability of fish for human consumption in developing countries and through higher income generated through trade. The report cautions, however, that sustainable resource management practices are a necessary condition for sustainable international trade. It also highlights the need for free and transparent trade and market policies to ensure that benefits from international trade are enjoyed by all segments of society.

Book excerpt: “A necessary book for anyone truly interested in what we take from the sea to eat, and how, and why.” —Sam Sifton, The New York Times Book Review Acclaimed author of American Catch and The Omega Princple and life-long fisherman, Paul Greenberg takes us on a journey, examining the four fish that dominate our menus: salmon, sea bass, cod, and tuna. Investigating the forces that get fish to our dinner tables, Greenberg reveals our damaged relationship with the ocean and its inhabitants. Just three decades ago, nearly everything we ate from the sea was wild. Today, rampant overfishing and an unprecedented biotech revolution have brought us to a point where wild and farmed fish occupy equal parts of a complex marketplace. Four Fish offers a way for us to move toward a future in which healthy and sustainable seafood is the rule rather than the exception.
