Book First Steps in Photography Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Steps in Photography Classic Reprint written by J. C. H. Wallsgrove and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Steps in Photography The preparation of the fourth edition of this little book has been undertaken with some amount of pleasure on account of the very favourable reception accorded to its immediate predecessor - respecting its practical and simple explanations - by the Press and by Beginners who have found its teachings of great use to them. The new edition has been more profusely illustrated with drawings lettered in such a manner that they may be easily connected with the text. From this cause it has been necessary to practically re-write the whole work. This feature should be of great assistance to the reader, as it renders the descriptions so much clearer. The drawings have been made without any intention of illustrating any special make of apparatus, but to explain the structural arrangements and to show the principles underlying the various movements. To be successful in the practice of photography it is essential that it is not undertaken in any haphazard sort of manner. It requires thought, system and cleanliness. Results do not so much depend upon the apparatus as upon the individual using it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of Photography: Practical, Theoretic, and Applied The book OF photography has been prepared at the request of many readers of my smaller books on the subject who have expressed a wish for a comprehensive treatise, My own practice in Photography dates back to the time when the operator prepared each plate for his own use; first by a tedious process of cleaning the glass, next by dexterously flooding it with collodion, and finally by sensitising it in a bath of silver nitrate. My first photographs, some of which I still possess, were taken with apparatus wholly my own construction, which served its purpose quite satisfactorily for many years. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Motion Picture Photography for the Amateur This work has been a source of pleasure to me; for it recalls vividly my own first steps in cinematography, in that hard mill where the assistant carries the slate and learns his art by watching his chief for a period of three to five years, and it is with a real regret that I prepare to remove this last sheet and set my typewriter away for a well-earned vacation. Should this work meet with your approval, I hope that at some future time, we may meet again through the medium of the printed page. Book New Insights in the History of Interpreting

Download or read book New Insights in the History of Interpreting written by Kayoko Takeda and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who mediated intercultural exchanges in 9th-century East Asia or in early voyages to the Americas? Did the Soviets or the Americans invent simultaneous interpreting equipment? How did the US government train its first Chinese interpreters? Why is it that Taiwanese interpreters were executed for Japanese war crimes? Bringing together papers from an international symposium held at Rikkyo University in 2014 along with two select pieces, this volume pursues such questions in an eclectic exploration of the practice of interpreting, the recruitment of interpreters, and the challenges interpreters have faced in diplomacy, colonization, religion, war, and occupation. It also introduces innovative use of photography, artifacts, personal journals, and fiction as tools for the historical study of interpreters and interpreting. Targeted at practitioners, scholars, and students of interpreting, translation, and history, the new insights presented in the ten original articles aim to spark discussion and research on the vital roles interpreters have played in intercultural communication through history.
