Book Shapes and Diffeomorphisms

Download or read book Shapes and Diffeomorphisms written by Laurent Younes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-17 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers mathematical foundations and methods for the computerized analysis of shapes, providing the requisite background in geometry and functional analysis and introducing various algorithms and approaches to shape modeling, with a special focus on the interesting connections between shapes and their transformations by diffeomorphisms. A direct application is to computational anatomy, for which techniques such as large‒deformation diffeomorphic metric mapping and metamorphosis, among others, are presented. The appendices detail a series of classical topics (Hilbert spaces, differential equations, Riemannian manifolds, optimal control). The intended audience is applied mathematicians and mathematically inclined engineers interested in the topic of shape analysis and its possible applications in computer vision or medical imaging. The first part can be used for an advanced undergraduate course on differential geometry with a focus on applications while the later chapters are suitable for a graduate course on shape analysis through the action of diffeomorphisms. Several significant additions appear in the 2nd edition, most notably a new chapter on shape datasets, and a discussion of optimal control theory in an infinite-dimensional framework, which is then used to enrich the presentation of diffeomorphic matching.

Download or read book Shapes of Forms written by L. Albertazzi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: impossible triangle, after apprehension of the perceptively given mode of being of that 'object', the visual system assumes that all three sides touch on all three sides, whereas this happens on only one side. In fact, the sides touch only optically, because they are separate in depth. In Meinong's words, Penrose's triangle has been inserted in an 'objective', or in what we would today call a "cognitive schema". Re-examination of the Graz school's theory, as said, sheds light on several problems concerning the theory of perception, and, as Luccio points out in his contribution to this book, it helps to eliminate a number of over-simplistic commonplaces, such as the identification of the cognitivist notion of 'top down' with Wertheimer's 'von oben unten', and of 'bottom up' with his 'von unten nach oben'. In fact, neither Hochberg's and Gregory's 'concept-driven' perception nor Gibson's 'data-driven' perception coincide with the original conception of the Gestalt.

Book Spectral Geometry of Shapes

Presents the latest advances in spectral geometric processing for 3D shape analysis applications, such as shape classification, shape matching, medical imaging, etc. Provides intuitive links between fundamental geometric theories and real-world applications, thus bridging the gap between theory and practice Describes new theoretical breakthroughs in applying spectral methods for non-isometric motion analysis Gives insights for developing spectral geometry-based approaches for 3D shape analysis and deep learning of shape geometry

Book Spectral Analysis of Nonlinear Elastic Shapes

Download or read book Spectral Analysis of Nonlinear Elastic Shapes written by James F. Doyle and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns the elastic stability of thin-walled structures — one of the most challenging problems facing structural engineers because of its high degree of nonlinearity — and introduces the innovative approach of using spectral analysis of the shapes and the stiffness to gain insights into the nonlinear deformations. The methodology greatly facilitates correlating the shape changes with the stiffness changes. Professor Doyle also develops specific computer procedures that complement finite element methods so that the ideas and methods are applicable to general structural problems. Basic validity of the procedures is established using key archetypal problems from buckling/post-buckling of columns, arches, curved plates, and cylindrical shells, all worked out in significant detail. The book is ideal for a wide variety of structural engineers, particularly those in aerospace and civil fields. Researchers in computational mechanics also find a rich source of new ideas for post-processing data from nonlinear analyses.
