Download or read book First Results of a Search for Double Beta Decay of 1 Mo with the NEMO 2 Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Double beta decay of 1°°Mo (172g) is studied with the NEMO 2 detector in the Frejus Underground Laboratory. The experiment has now accumulated 2485 hours of data taking. A clear signal of 380 events for 2[beta]2[nu] decay has been obtained corresponding to a half-life of T{sub {1/2}} = 1.0 ± 0.08 (syst.) 1019 y. Limits are presented for 2[beta](0[nu], [chi]), 2[beta]0[nu] (ground state and excited states 21 and 01+). The experiment will run til October 1993.

Book Seventy Years Of Double Beta Decay From Nuclear Physics To Beyond standard model Particle Physics

Download or read book Seventy Years Of Double Beta Decay From Nuclear Physics To Beyond standard model Particle Physics written by Hans Volker Klapdor-kleingrothaus and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-03-25 with total page 1559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last 20 years the disciplines of particle physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics and cosmology have grown together in an unprecedented way. A brilliant example is nuclear double beta decay, an extremely rare radioactive decay mode, which is one of the most exciting and important fields of research in particle physics at present and the flagship of non-accelerator particle physics. While already discussed in the 1930s, only in the 1980s was it understood that neutrinoless double beta decay can yield information on the Majorana mass of the neutrino, which has an impact on the structure of space-time. Today, double beta decay is indispensable for solving the problem of the neutrino mass spectrum and the structure of the neutrino mass matrix. The potential of double beta decay has also been extended such that it is now one of the most promising tools for probing beyond-the-standard-model particle physics, and gives access to energy scales beyond the potential of future accelerators. This book presents the breathtaking manner in which achievements in particle physics have been made from a nuclear physics process. Consisting of a 150-page highly factual overview of the field of double beta decay and a 1200-page collection of the most important original articles, the book outlines the development of double beta decay research — theoretical and experimental — from its humble beginnings until its most recent achievements, with its revolutionary consequences for the theory of particle physics. It further presents an outlook on the exciting future of the field.

Book The Proceedings of the International Symposium on Nuclear Electro Weak Spectroscopy for Symmetries in Electro Weak Nuclear Processes

Download or read book The Proceedings of the International Symposium on Nuclear Electro Weak Spectroscopy for Symmetries in Electro Weak Nuclear Processes written by H. Toki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NEWS99 international symposium discusses symmetries in electroweak processes in nuclei. Many phenomena in nuclear and particle physics are related to symmetry. It is known that we are living in a left-handed world as far as the Weak interaction is concerned, but neutrino physics suggests that a right-handed world may also be relevant. Chiral symmetry and its breaking plays an essential role in generating hadron masses. Symmetries related to flavor in the strong interaction like isospin, SU(3) and so on are known to be violated although they play a crucial role for the understanding of phenomena in nuclear and particle physics. The treatment of tiny breaking is of particular importance. Weak and electromagnetic interactions are well established at the fundamental level and can be used to probe the structure of nuclei and hadrons. A wide variety of phenomena in nuclear and particle physics were discussed in NEWS99 with an emphasis on symmetry. Topics ranged from nuclear structure to neutrino properties,,covering highly phenomenological to fundamental fields.

This book was released on 2007-10-29 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The determination of the properties of the neutrino is one of the most pursued goals of physics. The series of MEDEX Conferences, which started ten years ago, is devoted to the update of the experimental and theoretical information related to the nuclear double beta decay, which is the process that may, if observed, be the tool to answer the fundamental questions related to the neutrino mass scale. MEDEX is a unique forum for theoreticians and experimentalists active in the field.

Book Particle Physics Perspectives And Opportunities Report Of The Dpf Committee On Long term Planning

Download or read book Particle Physics Perspectives And Opportunities Report Of The Dpf Committee On Long term Planning written by Robert N Cahn and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-09-20 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a broad-based and in-depth study of high energy physics commissioned by the Executive Committee of the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. This year-long study was initiated in the early 1994, in the wake of the cancellation of the SSC, and is meant to complement the report of the Drell HEPAP subpanel, charged with providing a vision for the future of the field. The DPF study of high energy physics was organized on the basis of the working groups, each led by a number of co-conveners chosen among established leaders in the various subspecialties in the field. These conveners, in turn, organized their working groups by inviting other active workers in the discipline to participate and gathered further input from the community by holding a variety of specialized meetings and workshops. This book contains the final reports of the 11 working groups assembled for the study, along with an extended overview and executive summary by the editors.

Book Search for the Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay of 100Mo with the NEMO3 Detector and Calorimeter Research and Development for the SuperNEMO Experiment

Download or read book Search for the Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay of 100Mo with the NEMO3 Detector and Calorimeter Research and Development for the SuperNEMO Experiment written by A. Basharina-Freshville and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world's most precise half-life measurement of T 2nu_1/2 = [7.02 ± 0.01(stat) ± 0.46(syst)] × 10 18 years has been made for the 2\nu\beta\beta decay of 100Mo using data from 6.9kg collected with the NEMO3 detector over 1471 days. The 2\nu nuclear matrix element has been extracted using T 2nu_1/2 and is M 2\nu = 0.126 ± 0.004. The 0\nu\beta\beta search yielded a limit on the half-life of T 0\nu_1/2 1/1 > 1.1 × 10 24 years at the 90% CL, corresponding to a limit on the effective Majorona mass of \langle M\nu e\rangle
