Book 70 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know

Download or read book 70 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know written by Matthew Richard Schlimm and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic message of the Bible can be understood in any language. At the same time, many biblical texts are hard to understand because they don’t quite make sense when translated into English. Something is missing. Quite frequently, what readers miss has been lost in translation. Maybe there is a pun or wordplay in the original. Sometimes names like Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, and Eden just seem like names to us but have meanings that are essential to the story. Many Hebrew words have multiple meanings, but the English translators have to just pick one (for example, the same Hebrew word can mean both hear and obey). Even more common are Hebrew words that have much wider meanings than their English translations. A few examples are the Hebrew words rendered as remember, covenant, walk, gates, love, cleanliness, holiness, glory, wisdom, and fear. The original language allows various parts to click together like well-constructed puzzle pieces. With Hebrew in mind, interpreters see new details they didn’t realize were missing before. They make new connections. They immerse themselves in scripture more fully. That’s where this book comes in. Learning a language is like learning a worldview. Those who learn biblical Hebrew can better understand not only what biblical authors wrote, but also how they thought. Unfortunately, those insights come only after years of study. This book is about getting right to the important, exciting insights. It’s an opportunity to be transformed by the renewing of our minds as we better understand how biblical authors used their language to express their experience of God and the world. If you are just beginning to study Hebrew and want the insights and motivation to continue or if you have no intention of learning biblical Hebrew but want to better understand the Bible, this book is for you!

Download or read book The Story of Hebrew written by Lewis Glinert and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Story of Hebrew explores the extraordinary hold that Hebrew has had on Jews and Christians, who have invested it with a symbolic power far beyond that of any other language in history. Preserved by the Jews across two millennia, Hebrew endured long after it ceased to be a mother tongue, resulting in one of the most intense textual cultures ever known. Hebrew was a bridge to Greek and Arab science, and it unlocked the biblical sources for Jerome and the Reformation. Kabbalists and humanists sought philosophical truth in it, and Colonial Americans used it to shape their own Israelite political identity. Today, it is the first language of millions of Israelis. A major work of scholarship, The Story of Hebrew is an unforgettable account of what one language has meant and continues to mean.

Book BERESHITH THE HUMAN SKULL IS THE HOUSE OF GOD

Download or read book BERESHITH THE HUMAN SKULL IS THE HOUSE OF GOD written by William John Meegan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2024-06-18 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion, Esotericism, Psychology The first Hebrew word inscribed into the sacred scriptures is BERESHITH . The three middle letters in the Hebrew word BERESHITH spells out the Hebrew letter/word RESH that symbolizes HEAD/SKULL. And the first and last two Hebrew letters in the Hebrew word BERESHITH spells out the Hebrew letter/word BETH that symbolizes HOUSE. That is why I translated the Hebrew word BERESHITH : THE HUMAN SKULL IS THE HOUSE OF GOD. It is quite interesting to envisage that the first two Hebrew letters: BETH and RESH in the Judaeo Christian Scriptures spells out the first word of Genesis: BERESHITH . “In the Beginning” was considered in antiquity and in modern times to be the interpretation of the Hebrew word BERESHITH . In this volume I will illustrate that the first letter of the BIBLE BETH ; though, it is not translated as “in the Beginning” it does mystically symbolize the phrase “In the Beginning”. The first chapter of Genesis is a commentary on the first Hebrew letter BETH and it is also a commentary on the VESICA PISCIS. The first Hebrew letter of the Bible BETH is mystically inundated and surrounded by another Hebrew letter called PEI that cannot be seen, which, is literally invisible for anybody to see. PEI has the gematria (numerical) value of eighty (80). And BETH has the gematria (numerical) value of forty-hundred and twelve (412). The first chapter of Genesis has sixty-nine (69) groups of one-hundred and forty-two (142) Hebrew words held together by eighty (80) hyphens; however, the number one-hundred and forty-two (142) is a transposition of the number four-hundred and twelve (412). Chapter six (6) will illustrate the sixty-nine (69) groups of words colored coded in orange. The number sixty-nine (69) is a very spiritual number, which will be discussed later in this volume. Chapter six (6) is written with Hebrew and English words with STRONGS EXHAUSTIVE CONCORDANCE’S numbers placed over the Hebrew and English words.
