Book Terminal evaluation of the project Integration of climate resilience in agricultural and pastoral production for food security in vulnerable rural areas through the farmer field school approach

Download or read book Terminal evaluation of the project Integration of climate resilience in agricultural and pastoral production for food security in vulnerable rural areas through the farmer field school approach written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the final evaluation report of a project that aimed to strengthen the agricultural and pastoral sectors’ climate change adaptation (CCA) capacities in the Niger. The project reached 21 142 direct beneficiaries (or 106 percent of the target), including 51 percent women. However, the project experienced shortcomings in terms of its management (from start-up to mid-term), its third expected result (integration of CCA into development policies and plans) and its mobilization/accounting of co-financing partners. The expected third result will be continued under the agro-pastoral field school-community listeners’ clubs (AFPS-CLC) component of the Climate-Smart Agriculture Support Project (PASEC). Despite project achievements, the evaluation concludes FAO must nevertheless improve certain project management and mobilization of co-financing mechanisms, strengthen the capacities of partners based on their needs-analysis, and recommends developing a long-term partnership with farmer organizations to strengthen their extension and advisory support capacities.

Book Evaluation of five FAO projects funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency in Cameroon Chad Mali and the Niger

Download or read book Evaluation of five FAO projects funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency in Cameroon Chad Mali and the Niger written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-02-15 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation seeks to contribute to organization-wide learning by drawing lessons from the multi-year funded resilience projects implemented in the Sahel and Cameroon and making recommendations for future programming. FAO intervened in these countries to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable households affected by the crisis in the Sahel through promoting sustainable livelihood. The evaluation found that the projects contributed to an improvement in animal and agricultural production and strengthened social cohesion among the different communities. The evaluation also found that a multi-year funding mechanism is flexible and allows a transition from a humanitarian to a development approach if used efficiently. In its future programming, FAO should promote an integrated approach, targeting the same beneficiaries and enabling them to engage in productive activities and sustainable natural resource management. In fragile and emergency contexts, FAO should adapt its tools and procedures for more flexibility and adaptive management.

Book Evaluation of FAO s contribution to Nigeria 2016 2022

Download or read book Evaluation of FAO s contribution to Nigeria 2016 2022 written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2023-07-27 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evaluation assessed FAO's contribution to Nigeria from 2016 to 2022, focusing on national priorities for the agriculture sector and food systems, with a special lens on gender equality, leave no one behind principles, the humanitarian–development–peace nexus and climate change mainstreaming. FAO has supported the government in enhancing food and nutrition security, disaster risk reduction, resilience building and evidence-based policymaking. However, support for conflict-affected populations, climate change mainstreaming and sustainability remains uncertain. The evaluation recommends prioritizing flagship initiatives, engaging ministries, national actors and implementing a gender stocktaking exercise to identify those at risk of being left behind.

Book Developing sustainable value chains for small scale livestock producers

Download or read book Developing sustainable value chains for small scale livestock producers written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication constitutes a practical development tool, which implements the sustainable food value chain framework with a focus on small-scale livestock producers, targeting an audience of project design teams and policymakers. Small-scale livestock producers are important actors in food production, human health and management of landscapes and animal genetic resources. However, they face a number of challenges, which hamper their productivity, access to market, and competitiveness vis-à-vis their larger counterparts. By integrating the concepts of value addition and the three dimensions of sustainability, the sustainable food value chain framework not only addresses questions concerning the competitiveness, inclusion and empowerment of small-scale producers, but also incorporates the cross-cutting issues that are increasingly embedded in development projects. These guidelines take the user through the different steps of value chain development, highlighting the particularities of the smallholder livestock sector, such as multi-functionality, specific production cycles or food safety issues, through concrete examples.

Book World Bank Assistance to Agriculture in Sub Saharan Africa

Download or read book World Bank Assistance to Agriculture in Sub Saharan Africa written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sub-Saharan Africa is a critical development priority-it has some of the world's poorest countries and during the past two decades the number of poor in the Region has doubled, to 300 million-more than 40 percent of the Region's population. Africa remains behind on most of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and is unlikely to reach them by 2015. With some of the world's poorest countries, Africa is a development priority for the donor community. A major drag on Africa's development is the underperformance of the critical agriculture sector, which has been neglected both by donors and governments over the past two decades. The sector faces a variety of constraints that are particular to agriculture in Africa and make its development a complex challenge. Poor governance and conflict in several countries further complicate matters. IEG has assessed the development effectiveness of World Bank assistance in addressing constraints to agricultural development in Africa over the period of fiscal 1991-2006.
