Book First Eucharist and Beyond Child s Book

Download or read book First Eucharist and Beyond Child s Book written by Living the Good News and published by Living the Good News. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Child's Book contains what the child needs to prepare for celebrating first eucharist. It helps the child deepen the learning that begins in the parish sessions and is reinforced at home by activities with the other household members using the Family Activity Book. It is coordinated with the four parish sessions, following the same themes and scripture stories. The book is designed: To be taken to class and used to practice what is said and done in the eucharist To be used later at home to reinforce the learning begun in the parish session The Child's Book is meant to be more personal or individual in use in contrast to the whole household approach of the Family Activity Book. The child is encouraged to think about the scripture story, respond to it by reflection and prayer, practice what is said and done to celebrate the rite and think about living a more thankful, eucharistic life. Each session encourages a "Time to Talk" when the child shares with a parent, mentor or friend about the content of the session.

Download or read book The Table of the Lord Child s Book written by Gaynell Cronin and published by . This book was released on 1998-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gaynell Cronin's best-selling sacramental preparation program, originally published by Ave Maria Press, is now available from St. Anthony Messenger Press. The Forgiveness of the Lord and The Table of the Lord are designed to help parents prepare their young children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. The basic catechesis is done at home with the support of the parish community and a program director. The director's role is to prepare the parents and to involve the parish community in the sacramental preparation. While the majority of the catechesis is done in the home, both programs are enriched by group meetings which introduce the parents to their task and by community gatherings for the reception of the sacraments. The Child’s Book consists of ten lessons each revolving around a specific action (for example, Celebrating), a scripture story illustrating that action (The Wedding Feast at Cana), and one part of the eucharistic celebration (the Introductory Rite). The child learns stories, prayers, activities and mass responses. 104 pages. Photos and four-color illustrations. Family Book Director's Manual

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS book of Preparation for First Communion, which it is my privilege to introduce to the reader, was originally undertaken at the suggestion of the late Father John Morris, S.J., who as long as he lived took the warmest interest in its progress. Unhappily only a few chapters had been completed at the time of his lamented death, and in the sense of that great loss the work for a while was laid aside. It would have been a matter for much regret if the author had made this decision a final one. The book now completed has suffered, we cannot doubt, from the lack of Father Morris's always helpful criticisms, but the originality of its conception and the knowledge of child nature displayed in it can hardly fail to justify its publication. In the address "To the Children" which will be found further on, it is stated that the book is intended to aid the little ones to prepare themselves for First Communion. Perhaps it may be well to add a word of explanation here to anticipate possible misconceptions. It is not in any way the idea of the author that a child should be presented with a copy of this work and then cut adrift without further help, in the expectation that when the proper time comes the needful process of preparation will have worked itself out automatically. None the less, it is believed that many children are quite capable, under the supervision of parents or teachers, of reading for themselves instructions couched in simple child's language such as this book offers them, and furthermore the author has assumed that it may be helpful to some who have to prepare others for First Communion, and who, while conscious of the importance, are not a little embarrassed by the difficulty of their task. To cram children's minds with certain facts of dogmatic knowledge about the Blessed Eucharist is comparatively easy, to prepare their hearts so that they may approach this Divine Mystery full not only of faith, but of love, this is a duty sometimes relegated by teachers to a secondary place simply from a sense of helplessness and ignorance of how to set about it. While the method developed in this volume does not pretend to be better than many others which might be devised, it will be found, I believe, to possess many advantages of its own. And here I cannot do better than quote a few sentences from a Prospectus previously issued, in which the idea of the book is described in the author's own words: "To make the Life of our Blessed Saviour enter largely into preparation for First Communion seems the most natural way of drawing the hearts of the young to Him. It would be sad to think of children coming to the altar-rails knowing little or nothing of His Life beyond such facts as the doctrine of the Holy Eucharist supposes. Yet there is danger of this. There is so much to be done in the simple teaching of the Christian doctrine during a child's school life, that the time devoted to it barely suffices. But in the preparation for First Communion time might surely be found, and ought to be found. Their hearts are fresh and tender, and full of an eager longing, that will never again in their lives be quite the same. If we could tell them a little more about Him then, His character, His ways of dealing with us, and so bring them to the altar able to say, in their own fashion and degree: 'I know Whom I have believed, ' would there not be solid work for the future done in their souls? Knowing Him better, they would come to love Him more. Faith, Hope, and Charity would have a firmer foundation; they would make the acts more easily and more fervently, for there would be a living picture of Him in their hearts."

Book excerpt: Within the Eastern Empire, Duke Kordas Valdemar rules a tiny, bucolic Duchy that focuses mostly on horse breeding. Anticipating the day when the Empire's exploitative and militant leaders would not be content to leave them alone, his father gathered magicians in the hopes of one day finding a way to escape and protect the people of the Duchy from tyranny. One of the Duchy's mages find there is a way to place a Gate at a distance so far from the Empire that it is unlikely the Emperor can find or follow them as they evacuate everyone that is willing to leave. When Kordas is summoned to the Emperor's Court, will his reputation as a country bumpkin buy his people the time they need to flee? -- adapted from jacket.

  • Pages : 460 pages

Download or read book First Communion written by Mother Mary Loyola and published by . This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Around the year 1890, a rather extraordinary nun began writing a very extraordinary book: one that would help children prepare for the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. It would revolutionize children's catechesis by making the teachings of the Catholic Church both accessible and appealing, and in just over 10 years, its popularity would make her one of the best-known and best-loved Catholic authors of her time, with over two dozen works for both children and adults to her name. Mother Mary Loyola's work has been reintroduced to a new generation through her book The King of the Golden City, and now modern readers can access the brilliant and engaging works upon which she drew to write that book, especially the one that started it all: First Communion. This brand new, newly typeset version is dedicated to Mother Loyola in gratitude for her tireless efforts and the fruit they have borne in the lives of countless Catholics the world over. In a contemporary review of this book, "The Rosary Magazine" said, This book is intended to prepare children for First Communion by giving them an insight into our Lord s life and mission on earth. Its aim is to fill the heart of the child with a true and earnest love for our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, a strong love which the struggles of later life will not weaken, a love which cannot be inspired by the dry, dogmatic facts of the catechism...Although written for children, it is not childish, and persons of any age will find it interesting and profitable reading, and especially suited as a preparation for Holy Communion "

Book Our One Great Act of Fidelity

Download or read book Our One Great Act of Fidelity written by Ronald Rolheiser and published by Image. This book was released on 2011-06-14 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling, The Holy Longing, comes a book about the central expression of faith for hundreds of millions of Christians, the Eucharist. More so than anything else, the Eucharist is what anchors many peoples' life, prayer, and ultimately the way they live their lives. In this deeply personal book, Father Ronald Rolheiser delves into the history and meaning of this sacred tradition, drawing upon the insights of various scripture scholars, theologians, and church teachings. With personal warmth and great insight, he reflects on his own particular Roman Catholic upbringing and the centrality that the Eucharist has within that tradition. At the same time, he looks at other denominations’ traditions around the Eucharist. Our One Great Act of Fidelity is an investigation into the ways people secure their faith and belief and discover true intimacy with God and each other. Ultimately, however, it is a spiritual and a personal statement of how Ronald Rolheiser understands the Eucharist and why he celebrates it every day. Ronald Rolheiser is a specialist in the field of spirituality and is currently President of the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas. Father Rolheiser is the author of The Holy Longing, The Restless Heart, Forgotten Among the Lilies, The Shattered Lantern, and Against an Infinite Horizon. He writes a weekly column that appears in more than 90 Catholic publications. More information on his work can be found at RonRolheiser.com.

Book First Holy Communion

  • Pages : 191 pages

Download or read book First Holy Communion written by Mark Allen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Allen found no suitable published book to prepare his son for First Holy Communion. First Holy Communion in the Roman Catholic Church is something of the greatest significance equivalent to confirmation in the Church of England or Bar Mitzvah for Jewish children. A lot of the material published is trite and worst of all tends to patronise the children for whom it is intended. To help parents and teachers answer questions about the ceremony Mark Allen offers readings and background from scripture and catechism. Children can be hard-headed tend to like stories and facts. The narrative of the Bible provides facts, events which happened, and along with them the objective truths of revelation. The Mass is our sacramental encounter with the person of Jesus. Preparation therefore should be based on him and on the Gospel story of His life. The preparation should reflect the unity of the mass, its liturgy of the Word and the Eucharistic Rite, the mystery of Christ in our community as Church. Routine is the key aid to progress. The course provided in this book is based on a series of half hour sessions for parent and teacher with the child. It is thus both practical and down to earth.

Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race,” a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and men—bodies exploited through slavery and segregation, and, today, threatened, locked up, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’s attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son. Coates shares with his son—and readers—the story of his awakening to the truth about his place in the world through a series of revelatory experiences, from Howard University to Civil War battlefields, from the South Side of Chicago to Paris, from his childhood home to the living rooms of mothers whose children’s lives were taken as American plunder. Beautifully woven from personal narrative, reimagined history, and fresh, emotionally charged reportage, Between the World and Me clearly illuminates the past, bracingly confronts our present, and offers a transcendent vision for a way forward.
