Book Introduction To Radiation Protection Dosimetry

Download or read book Introduction To Radiation Protection Dosimetry written by Jozef Sabol and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-04-28 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One essential characteristic of life is the exchange of matter and energy between organisms and their environment. Radiation is a form of energy that has always been around in nature and will forever be the companion of human beings throughout life. In order to assess the impact of radiation exposures properly, it is essential to introduce appropriate quantities and units which can then be used for quantification of exposures from various sources. In principle, radiation protection is mainly aimed at controlling radiation exposure, while radiation dosimetry deals primarily with the measurement of relevant radiation quantities especially doses. This book is divided into two parts. The first contains up-to-date definitions of the most significant radiation quantities including their interpretation. In the second part, the exposures of both individuals and population at large to various types of natural and man-made sources are compared and discussed. The concept of quantities and units as well as analysis of exposure due to various sources in our environment is based on the latest, highly regarded authentic sources such as ICRU, ICRP, IAEA and particularly UNSCEAR reports and recommendations. The material reflects the latest review of the current terminology in radiation protection dosimetry and the contemporary assessment of radiation exposures of the population, radiation workers and patients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material expounded in this book is based on the material of general physics course in technical institutions of higher education. The book corresponds to main sections of the course "Application of Atomic Energy in National Economy," introduced into curricula of these institutions of higher education by the Ministry of higher and intermediate specialized education of the RSFSR. We consider different methods of ionizing radiation dosimetry and simplified methods for design of shielding for gamma radiation, for neutron radiation and for design of shielding in a nuclear reactor. This book my be useful for those persons who are not specializing in nuclear physics, but who are working with radiation.

Book An Introduction to Radiation Dosimetry

Download or read book An Introduction to Radiation Dosimetry written by S. Lovell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1979-09-13 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1979, this volume presents an elementary and, as far as is practicable, non-mathematical introduction to radiation dosimetry. Where it proved necessary to use mathematical notation, it was kept to a simple level. The volume treats dosimetry from first principles, dealing with the interaction of the various radiations with matter, then defining dosimetric quantities and units and showing how the more important ones are measured. It concludes with a brief chapter on radiation protection. Although a number of dosimetric systems are described in some detail the treatment is by no means encyclopaedic. SI units appear throughout, including some which were not yet in universal use when the book was first published. Where it was considered necessary, the older non-SI units were also defined and conversion factors were given.

Book Fundamentals of Ionizing Radiation Dosimetry

Download or read book Fundamentals of Ionizing Radiation Dosimetry written by Pedro Andreo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-05-17 with total page 1002 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new, comprehensively updated edition of the acclaimed textbook by F.H. Attix (Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry) taking into account the substantial developments in dosimetry since its first edition. This monograph covers charged and uncharged particle interactions at a level consistent with the advanced use of the Monte Carlo method in dosimetry; radiation quantities, macroscopic behaviour and the characterization of radiation fields and beams are covered in detail. A number of chapters include addenda presenting derivations and discussions that offer new insight into established dosimetric principles and concepts. The theoretical aspects of dosimetry are given in the comprehensive chapter on cavity theory, followed by the description of primary measurement standards, ionization chambers, chemical dosimeters and solid state detectors. Chapters on applications include reference dosimetry for standard and small fields in radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology and interventional procedures, dosimetry of unsealed and sealed radionuclide sources, and neutron beam dosimetry. The topics are presented in a logical, easy-to-follow sequence and the text is supplemented by numerous illustrative diagrams, tables and appendices. For senior undergraduate- or graduate-level students and professionals.

Book European Radiation Protection Course

Download or read book European Radiation Protection Course written by Philippe Massiot and published by EDP Sciences. This book was released on 2014-07-03T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiation protection is a major challenge in the industrial applications of ionising radiation, both nuclear and non-nuclear, as well as in other areas such as the medical and research domains. The overall objective of this textbook is to participate to the development of European high-quality scheme and good practices for education and training in radiation protection (RP), coming from the new Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation. These ERPTS (European Radiation Protection Training Scheme) reflects the needs of the Radiation Protection Expert (RPE) and the Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), specifically with respect to the Directive 2013/59/Euratom in all sectors where ionising radiation are applied. To reflect the RPE training scheme, six chapters have been developed in this textbook: • Radioactivity and nuclear physics • Interaction of ionising radiation with matter • Dosimetry • Biological effects of ionising radiation • Detection and measurement of ionising radiation • Uses of sources of ionising radiation The result is a homogeneous textbook, dealing with the ERPTS learning outcomes suggested by ENETRAPII project (European Network on Education and Training in RAdiological Protection II) from the 7th Framework Programme. A cyberbook is also part of the whole training material to develop the concept of “learning more” (http://www.rpe-training.eu). The production of this first module “basics” training material, in the combined form of a textbook plus a cyberbook as learning tools, will contribute to facilitate mutual recognition and enhanced mobility of these professionals across the European Union.

Book The Dosimetry of Ionizing Radiation

Download or read book The Dosimetry of Ionizing Radiation written by Kenneth Kase and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dosimetry of Ionizing Radiation, Volume I focuses on the development in radiation dosimetry, which has its origin in the medical application of ionizing radiation with the discovery of X-rays. This book discusses the irradiation of human beings and the biosphere by ionizing radiation from different sources, which is subjected to increased concern and interest due to its possible health effects. Comprised of six chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the factors determining the conversion of the imparted energy into a detectable signal. This text then explores the theoretical basis of microdosimetry and illustrates the numerical data, experimental techniques, and applications of essential concepts and results. Other chapters consider the application of instruments in dose measurements. This book discusses as well the application of radiotherapy for the treatment of malignant diseases. The final chapter deals with the recommended model parameters for internal dosimetry calculations in occupational radiation protection. Physicists, radiation physicists, scientists, and research institutes will find this book useful.
