Download or read book Bulfinch s Mythology written by Thomas Bulfinch and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here are the world's most-loved stories, in a dynamic visual tour de force for today's readers. Each timeless myth is superbly presented in story form and enhanced with original art work by world-renowned artist Giovanni Caselli. Though Bulfinch's has been heralded for more than a century, it has never been published in so beautiful and accessible a format. Evocative four-color illustrations, many full-page, bring to life key events and characters of these universal tales and sagas -- from the Greek and Roman pantheon of gods to the heroes of the Crusades, from the exploits of Robin Hood to the feats of Richard the Lionheart. As enjoyable now as when Bulfinch first assembled them, these selections come from a variety of works -- Ovid's classic Metamorphoses, Egyptian myths, Eastern mythology, and Hindu, Norse, and Celtic sources. Together they form a remarkable tapestry of human endeavor: dreams, illusions, adventures, loves lost and loves found. In this handsome series, they speak to us afresh, across the ages, vivified through Caselli's inspired art. Original footnotes, indexes, and prefaces make this series not only entertaining, but completely authoritative as well.

Download or read book A Thousand Miles Up The Nile written by Amelia Ann Blandford and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2017 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miss Blandfords' 'A Thousand Miles Up the Nile ' is one of the classics of the literature of Egypt. Her work as an Egyptologist, and deserved reputation as such, began with the expedition of which it is the narrative. The author has studied her subjects with great care; she has consulted and compared authorities ancient and modern, with much industry; and her examination of the remains she describes was a labor of love and enthusiasm. . . Nor does she confine her attention to art and archaeology. She gives many fresh and lively sketches of the often described life of the dahabecah; of its great events, such as sand-storms and of the natives.
Download or read book The Political Situation in Egypt During the Second Intermediate Period C 1800 1550 B C written by K. S. B. Ryholt and published by Museum Tusculanum Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Intermediate Period designates the 250 year period (18001550 BC) which separates the two glorious periods of the Middle Kingdom and the New Kingdom. During the 19th century BC, an invasion by Caanite tribes into the Delta took place. Around 1800 BC these people proclaimed their own king and the Delta thus became independent from the rest of Egypt. Egypt remained split between the Canaanitic rulers in North and the native Egyptian Kings in the South for the rest of the Second Intermediate Period. The division of Egypt brought about an economic decline, and the entire period is characterized by a lack of royal monuments. This circumstance has greatly hampered any attempts to establish a chronology of the period, and as a consequence it has been very difficult to date many sources which are relevant for the social and political situation of the period. The Second Intermediate Period has therefore remained one of the most obscure periods of Egypt's ancient history. The dissertation is a new attempt to establish a chronology for the Second Intermediate Period and define the different kingdoms, their territories and political relations. The study consists of four main chapters, three appendixes, a catalogue of sources, bibliography and indices. Included is a catalogue of all the historical sources, about 1500, known to certify the names of the Egyptian kings of the Second Intermediate Period. Each source is described in terms of type, origin and present location, followed by bibliographical references.
