Book First Aid Dentistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Aid Dentistry Classic Reprint written by Edward P. R. Ryan and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-08 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Aid Dentistry This book has been designed for medical and dental practitioners and students, for nurses; and especially for hospital corps men of the military and naval service and for all who are called upon to administer relief from dental pain, where the services of a dental surgeon cannot be obtained. The impulse prompting this book was not to multiply books, but arose from the writer's belief and that expressed by many practitioners, both medical and dental, that this hand-book is needed by those it is intended to serve. The extent and scope of the methods described are limited to First Aid, which will relieve the patient from suffering until a dental surgeon may complete the treatment. A minimum number of instruments is recommended and their use shown and described. The methods used are simple and the descriptions have been written in the simplest words, technical terms being eliminated as much as possible; all methods used can be accomplished on board ship or in the field or in any hospital or medical office. Due credit is given the works of modern writers, which have been consulted and without them it would have been impossible to accomplish what has been done. The gratitude of the writer is here expressed to Captain J. R. Harris, M. C., U. S. Army, for valuable suggestions and assistance; and special credit is due Mr. H. A. Utter for photos from which these illustrations were made. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book A Text Book of First Aid and Emergency Treatment Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of First Aid and Emergency Treatment Classic Reprint written by Athel Campbell Burnham and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of First Aid and Emergency Treatment In the preparation of this book the author has kept in mind the requirements of both the untrained first-aid worker and the advanced student who may be expected to practise the art under the conditions of modern warfare. In its essentials the practice of first aid is the same whether the worker is surrounded by the conveniences of a civilized community or is in the wilderness or upon the battlefield. In any of these places emergencies may occur which in the absence of skilled medical aid require immediate volunteer treatment, the character of the services being determined by the skill of the volunteer and the available medical and surgical supplies. This book is intended to so train the volunteer assistant that when the emergency occurs he may be able to apply the principles of first aid to the case at hand. In addition the volume has been made complete in many small details, so that the advanced worker may find it a reliable reference book for both field and hospital work, and the camper and yachtsman, in the absence of a physician, may find in it sufficient information to enable him to assume temporary care of the sick and injured. In teaching first aid in the conventional course of six or eight lessons, it has not been the author's custom to attempt to cover the entire book. Such a plan being impracticable, he has endeavored to fix the principles of treatment thoroughly in the minds of the students, so that the interest thus aroused will lead them to a further study of the lesser details. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Aid for the Trenches It has been demonstrated in previous wars, but especially in the present conflict that the final result of casualties not immediately fatal nor inherently so depends upon the promptness' and the intelligence with which first aid is administered upon the battle field. Relatively few wounds are fatal if they do not kill outright; but failure to take the precautions or to adopt the procedures which experience has shown will prevent complications, notably infection, are the cause of death in many cases that might have been saved. It 1s important that these things be done at the instant of injury, for it is Often several days before the injured can be removed to the rear, where alone it is practicable to perform life saving operations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of the Teeth: A Paper Read Before the Cook Co. Medical Society at Chicago, and Published at Their Request I take it for granted, you do not expect me to describe the details of operative dentistry, in which you could have but little interest; I shall, therefore, confine my remarks to the nature and causes of some of the diseases of the teeth, and their effect upon the health of patients - a subject which requires the watchful care of the physician not less than the skill of the dentist. When a physician listens to a lecture on medical jurisprudence, he does not expect to become a lawyer; he simply desires to become familiar with some of those points of law which describe his duties and the mutual rights of himself and patients. On this principle, I take it for granted you do not desire to learn dentistry, but rather to gain that information which will enable you to avoid doing injury to the teeth of your patient, and also to judge when it is necessary to call to your aid the services of a competent dentist. I will pass over the subject of first dentition with the remark, that where you are called to cut the gums, in order to facilitate this physiological process, the duty might, with propriety, be performed by us, for most of the diseases of these organs are the result of bad habits, formed in early life; so we cannot too early impress on the parent's mind the necessity of care for their children's teeth, and this can be done by no one so well as the dentist. Book First Aid in the Laboratory and Workshop Classic Reprint

Download or read book First Aid in the Laboratory and Workshop Classic Reprint written by Arthur A. Eldridge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-17 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Aid in the Laboratory and Workshop IT often happens that persons who have attended courses in First Aid find, in an emergency, that they have forgotten the treatment appropriate for any particular injury. The authors of this little work have had much experience of injuries in chemical and mechanical laboratories at the Imperial College and elsewhere, and they have found that there is a need for a work of reference as an aid to memory. Since the recognition of the necessity for this handbook is the outcome of experience, perhaps no more need be said to commend the attempt which has been made, but it is obvious that the essential thing in most cases, where First Aid is required, is rapidity of action. Many handbooks are prolix, suitable only for the study and not for the laboratory; this little book, if at hand, will tell in an instant what should be done. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Origin and Formation of the Dental Follicle: The First Memoir on the Development of the Teeth While the writers of that treatise gave a detailed and elaborate account of the development of the jaws and their anatomical constituents, that por tion devoted to the origin and formation of the dental follicle was in many respects incomplete, and in some particulars erroneous. The improved methods of. Preparing sections for microscopic examination which have since been adopted, together with the experience gained by many years of study, which one of these authors has since devoted to this and kindred subjects, has enabled him, with the aid of his eminent colaborer, not only to correct the errors of that work, but also to describe these parts more minutely, and with greater exactness than had been hitherto pos sible. While the present work traverses a portion of the ground gone over by the previous Writers, it is, nevertheless, a distinct memoir, rendered more comprehensive, and more complete in detail, by the study of the development of the dental system not only in man, but in many other mammifera.
