Book excerpt: Theme parks are fantastic places for family vacations, but it is easy to get caught up in the excitement of the rides, attractions and characters when vacationing there and forget the God that has made it all possible. The Suitcase Devotionals have been written to assist in providing a daily family devotional around the activities engaged in during a vacation at theme parks located in Orlando, Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Each devotional consists of selected scripture passages, a brief description of one of the attractions, and an application of the selected scriptures to the attraction. The Suitcase Devotionals are an aid in starting your family vacation days at these theme parks in God's Word and in prayer to Him. Jerry Hall is a husband, father, grandfather, educator, Sunday School teacher and enjoys family vacations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researcher Bonnie Gaunt continues her search on Gematria and Bible codes. In this book, Gaunt makes a new discovery of the numeric patterns in the Gematria of the Bible and their relationship to the 3:4:5: triangle, the earth, moon and sun, presents an exquisite display of evidence of the magnificent Author of Creation and His time-line for the blessing of man. Using the Number Code, it is found that the parable of the Good Samaritan is, in fact, a time prophecy, telling the time of Jesus' return. His miracles of healing and of turning water into wine have been encoded with evidence of the time and the work of the beginning of the great 'Third Day'. The Number Code takes us on a journey from Bethlehem to Golgotha, and into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Kingdom of God and the building of the New Jerusalem.

Download or read book An American Bible written by Paul C. Gutjahr and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An American Bible is an extremely compelling piece of cultural history that succeeds in making rich rather than schematic sense of the major dramas that lay behind the production of over 1,700 different American editions of the Bible in the century after the American Revolution. Gutjahr's book is especially powerful in demonstrating how nineteenth-century efforts to purge the Bible of textual and translational impurities in search of an 'authentic' text led ironically to the emergence of entirely new gospels like the Book of Mormon and the massive fictionalized literature dealing with the life of Christ." --Jay Fliegelman, Stanford University During the first three-quarters of the nineteenth century, American publishing experienced unprecedented, exponential growth. An emerging market economy, widespread religious revival, educational reforms, and innovations in print technology worked together to create a culture increasingly formed and framed by the power of print. At the center of this new culture was the Bible, the book that has been called "the best seller" in American publishing history. Yet it is important to realize that the Bible in America was not a simple, uniform entity. First printed in the United States during the American Revolution, the Bible underwent many revisions, translations, and changes in format as different editors and publishers appropriated it to meet a wide range of changing ideological and economic demands. This book examines how many different constituencies (both secular and religious) fought to keep the Bible the preeminent text in the United States as the country's print marketplace experienced explosive growth. The author shows how these heated battles had profound consequences for many American cultural practices and forms of printed material. By exploring how publishers, clergymen, politicians, educators, and lay persons met the threat that new printed material posed to the dominance of the Bible by changing both its form and its contents, the author reveals the causes and consequences of mutating God's supposedly immutable Word.

Download or read book When Jesus Was a Green Eyed Brunette written by Max Davis and published by Worthy Books. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Jesus Was a Green-Eyed Brunette weaves heartwarming and miraculous stories of Jesus showing up in ordinary people, revealing that He knows us and is fully present in our everyday circumstances, especially in our difficulties. As best-selling author Max Davis puts it, "When we are born again, Jesus lives inside each of us. He is very much alive today and still does incredible things -- sometimes supernatural things -- through us!" Davis's own life was dramatically altered when he first came face-to-face with Jesus living inside a green-eyed brunette. That encounter started a forty-plus-year journey where Jesus became his best friend. When we see others as God sees us we will love them as God loves us. Those hurting and weary from worn-out religion are longing for a fresh touch from the living Jesus. By letting Jesus live through us we become a conduit of His love. Authentic Christianity is not about religion but a relationship with Jesus. Davis challenges us to do more than simply receive His grace -- we need to allow grace to soften, change, and shape us. As you read this book, you will laugh, cry, and come face-to-face with the living Jesus.

Download or read book All the Parables of Jesus written by David M. Brown and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like yeast, parables are explosive stories of Jesus that invade our lives and transform us into citizens of the kingdom of God. But they are also cryptic, and that's where this book is useful. More than an explanation or interpretation of each parable, this definitive work is primarily an exercise in hermeneutics. In it, readers are taken through a process of discovering which sayings of Jesus are parables, problematic questions related to counting and categorizing them, and Jesus' rationale for speaking in parables. The work then analyzes four distinct ways that parables are structured and three levels at which they do their work in us. The final chapter presents parable-related hermeneutical guidelines, and the book ends with seven extensive Appendices and two Indexes. It is a "must read" for every biblical scholar!
