Book Introduction to Mathematical Fire Modeling Second Edition

Download or read book Introduction to Mathematical Fire Modeling Second Edition written by Marc L. Janssens and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-07-14 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer simulation proves to be a valuable tool for the analysis and prediction of compartment fires. With the proper understanding and software, fire safety professionals can use modeling tools and methods to find answers to many critical questions relating to the prevention, investigation, and reconstruction of compartment fires. Thoroughly updated and revised, An Introduction to Mathematical Fire Modeling, Second Edition introduces the concepts, software, and techniques of computer-aided mathematical modeling and the software for the analysis and prediction of a variety of compartment fires. Beginning with basic compartment fire theory, the author develops a simple mathematical model that provides an engineering approximation of the time-varying conditions created by fires in an enclosure that may be subject to hot-layer vents. This is the first book focused on the deterministic computer modeling of compartment fires, and the FIRM model presented is the first fire model to be documented, validated, verified, and evaluated according to ASTM guidelines. The text includes detailed information on the use of the QBASIC software provided on an enclosed CD-ROM.

Book Evaluation of the Computer Fire Model DETACT QS

Download or read book Evaluation of the Computer Fire Model DETACT QS written by Society for Fire Protection Engineers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This engineering practice Guide, based on the DETACT-QS program, describes a model for predicting the response time of ceiling-mounted heat detectors/sprinklers and smoke detectors, installed under large unobstructed ceilings, for fires with user-defined, time-dependent heat release rate curves. The Guide provides information on the technical features, theoretical basis, assumptions, limitations, and sensitivities as well as guidance on the use of DETACT-QS. Evaluation is based on comparing predictions from DETACT-QS with results from full-scale fire experiments conducted in compartments with ceiling heights ranging from 2.44 m (8 ft) to 12.2 m (40 ft) and peak fire heat release rates ranging from 150 kW to 3.8 MW. Use of this model with building geometries or fire characteristics other than those used in this evaluation may require further evaluation or testing.

Book Predicting Room of Origin Fire Hazards

Download or read book Predicting Room of Origin Fire Hazards written by The Society of Fire Protection Engineers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-13 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This engineering guide provides a methodology to define and quantify the fire development andensuing conditions within the room of fire origin from the fire’s incipient stage through its fulldevelopment. The approach presented in this guide was developed using the framework set forthin the SFPE Engineering Guide to Performance-Based Fire Protection. 2nd ed., Quincy, Mass.:National Fire Protection Association, 2007.)It consists of three distinct parts: 1. Approach selection2. Input definition and data collection3. Results computation Specifically, this guide was developed for use as a means to implement the requirements presented in Chapter 10 of the SFPE Engineering Guide to Performance-Based Fire Protection. However, material within this guide has broader applicability and is therefore not limited to performance-based design applications.

Book Risk Analysis in Building Fire Safety Engineering

Download or read book Risk Analysis in Building Fire Safety Engineering written by A. M. Hasofer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book bridges the gap between risk assessment and fire safety engineering like few other resources. As all required knowledge for Probability and Statistics for Fire Engineering is included in the preliminary chapters, the book is suitable for teaching Fire Engineering components in a wide range of engineering courses for senior graduates and for postgraduate students of Fire Engineering. It will also serve as a comprehensive reference for professionals. This book describes the theory and the models involved in risk analysis, and includes case studies of multiple fire scenarios. Building fire safety and human behavioural responses to these scenarios show the benefits of risk-based fire safety design.
