Book Fire Safety for Very Tall Buildings

Download or read book Fire Safety for Very Tall Buildings written by International Code Council and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-30 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Guide provides information on special topics that affect the fire safety performance of very tall buildings, their occupants and first responders during a fire. This Guide addresses these topics as part of the overall building design process using performance-based fire protection engineering concepts as described in the SFPE Engineering Guide to Performance Based Fire Protection. This Guide is not intended to be a recommended practice or a document that is suitable for adoption as a code. The Guide pertains to “super tall,” “very tall” and “tall” buildings. Throughout this Guide, all such buildings are called “very tall buildings.” These buildings are characterized by heights that impose fire protection challenges; they require special attention beyond the protection features typically provided by traditional fire protection methods. This Guide does not establish a definition of buildings that fall within the scope of this document.

Book Fire Fighting Pumping Systems at Industrial Facilities

Download or read book Fire Fighting Pumping Systems at Industrial Facilities written by Dennis P. Nolan and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written from the perspective of industrial users, this is the only book that describes how to install an effective firewater pumping system in a pragmatic and budget-conscious way rather than with purely the regulatory framework in mind. Based on the wide-ranging industrial experience of the author, this book is also the only one that deals with the particular risks and requirements of off-shore facilities. This book takes the reader beyond the prescriptive requirements of the fire code (NFPA, UL) and considers how to make the best choice of design for the budget available as well as how to ensure the other components of the pumping system and supporting services are optimized. The only alternative to guides written by regulatory enforcement bodies, this book is uniquely practical and objective – demonstrating how and why the standards need to be met Covers a wide range of industries, including those with exceptional requirements such as off-shore petroleum facilities and chemical plants Written by someone who has been responsible for the safety of large numbers of workers and billions of dollars worth of equipment, for those in similarly responsible positions

This book was released on 2022-08-13 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This engineering guide provides a methodology to define and quantify the fire development andensuing conditions within the room of fire origin from the fire’s incipient stage through its fulldevelopment. The approach presented in this guide was developed using the framework set forthin the SFPE Engineering Guide to Performance-Based Fire Protection. 2nd ed., Quincy, Mass.:National Fire Protection Association, 2007.)It consists of three distinct parts: 1. Approach selection2. Input definition and data collection3. Results computation Specifically, this guide was developed for use as a means to implement the requirements presented in Chapter 10 of the SFPE Engineering Guide to Performance-Based Fire Protection. However, material within this guide has broader applicability and is therefore not limited to performance-based design applications.
