This program is written in a nondimensional form so that any consistent units used for the input produces consistent units in the output.

Book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading

Download or read book Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Shells of Revolution Under Axisymmetric Loading written by Sambamurthy Nagarajan and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of analyzing nonlinear static and dynamic responses of deformable solids has been developed based on an incremental variational formulation using the Lagrangian mode of description. The material nonlinearity due to plasticity or viscoplasticity as well as the geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements are considered. The equations of motion are obtained in a linearized incremental form using the principle of virtual work and solved using step-by-step numerical integration procedures. Equilibrium check is made at the end of each step and the residual forces are added to the next increment for improved accuracy over the pure incremental method. For elastic-plastic solutions the flow theory of plasticity is used along with the von Mises yield condition for isotropically hardening materials. The viscoplastic constitutive theory is also in the form of an associated flow law and capable of considering strain rate sensitive behavior. The viscoplastic strains are taken into account using an initial strain formulation. The discretization of the structure is achieved by the use of degenerate isoparametric finite elements and the computer codes that have been developed are capable of analyzing large axisymmetric deformations of shells of revolution. Book Linear and Non linear Free Vibration Analysis of Axisymmetric Solids and Structures microform

Download or read book Linear and Non linear Free Vibration Analysis of Axisymmetric Solids and Structures microform written by Laxman Subramaniam and published by National Library of Canada = Bibliothèque nationale du Canada. This book was released on 1998 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is concerned with the linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis of axisymmetric solids using the Ritz method and the finite element method. The solids are geometrically nonlinear. The geometry of the solid is described by the cylindrical coordinate system. The strain displacement relationships are derived using three dimensional elasticity equations. The strain energy and kinetic energy expressions are given and the stiffness and the mass matrices are derived from the strain and the kinetic energy expressions respectively. The Ritz method is developed for nonlinear free vibration analysis of axisymmetric solids like circular disks, conical shells, cylindrical shells etc, in which the displacement components are expressed as simple algebraic polynomials. Eight node quadrilateral isoparameteric element is used in Finite Element method for the eigen value solution.

Book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells Fundamentals

Download or read book The Finite Element Analysis of Shells Fundamentals written by Dominique Chapelle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-09 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a modern continuum mechanics and mathematical framework to study shell physical behaviors, and to formulate and evaluate finite element procedures. With a view towards the synergy that results from physical and mathematical understanding, the book focuses on the fundamentals of shell theories, their mathematical bases and finite element discretizations. The complexity of the physical behaviors of shells is analysed, and the difficulties to obtain uniformly optimal finite element procedures are identified and studied. Some modern finite element methods are presented for linear and nonlinear analyses. In this Second Edition the authors give new developments in the field and - to make the book more complete - more explanations throughout the text, an enlarged section on general variational formulations and new sections on 3D-shell models, dynamic analyses, and triangular elements. The analysis of shells represents one of the most challenging fields in all of mechanics, and encompasses various fundamental and generally applicable components. Specifically, the material presented in this book regarding geometric descriptions, tensors and mixed variational formulations is fundamental and widely applicable also in other areas of mechanics.

Book Vibration and Nonlinear Dynamics of Plates and Shells

Download or read book Vibration and Nonlinear Dynamics of Plates and Shells written by Meilan Liu and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This e-book focuses on the vibrational and nonlinear aspects of plate and shell structure dynamics by applying the finite element model. Specifically, shell finite elements employed in the computational studies included in this book are the mixed formulation based lower order flat triangular shell finite elements. Topics in the book are covered over nine chapters, including the theoretical background for the vibration analysis of plates and shells, vibration analysis of plate structures, shells with single curvature, shells with double curvatures, and box structures (single-cell and double-cell) and the theoretical development for the nonlinear dynamic analysis of plate and shell structures. In addition to presenting the steps in the derivations of the consistent element stiffness and mass matrices, constitutive relations of elastic materials and elasto-plastic materials with isotropic strain hardening, yield criterion, return mapping, configuration and stress updating strategies, and numerical algorithms are presented and discussed. The book is a suitable reference for advanced undergraduates and post-graduate level engineering students, research engineers, and scientists working in the field of applied physics and engineering.

Book Nonlinear Analysis of Axisymmetric Shells

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis of Axisymmetric Shells written by Haksik Shin and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study is concerned with nonlinear analysis of toroidal shells and storage tanks. The study serves to demonstrate the usefulness of the differential quadrature method in this area of computational mechanics. The problem of the response of axisymmetric toroidal shells to uniform external pressure forms the first part of this study. Nonlinear thin shell theory, accounting for large displacements, is employed. The new differential quadrature method is used to obtain numerical results. For validation a bifurcation solution is found using the finite element method. The commercial code ADINA is used for this purpose. Finally the two methods are used to provide results for eight cases of toroidal shells. An axisymmetric analysis of a liquid storage tank with a circular base plate resting on an elastic foundation forms the second part of this study. Nonlinear shell theory is used for the tank wall and base plate, while a linear model is used for the foundation. A convergence study is carried out to determine the appropriate analysis parameters for the method. Partial validation is obtained by comparison with previously published results. These results are compared with finite element method results. Additional results are presented covering a wide range of tank geometric parameters.
