Book Finite Element Formulation for the Analysis of Plastic Deformation of Rate Sensitive Materials in Metal Forming

Download or read book Finite Element Formulation for the Analysis of Plastic Deformation of Rate Sensitive Materials in Metal Forming written by Shiro Kobayashi and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The finite-element formulation for the analysis of metalworking problems for rigid-viscoplastic materials, including the effect of temperature, has been established. Of particular significance is an accomplishment of the coupled analysis of deformation and heat transfer. The formulations were applied to the problems of solid cylinder compression and ring compression. Then, the forming processes of shell nosing at room temperature, as well as at elevated temperatures, were analyzed. The results demonstrate that it is now possible to analyze accurately not only cold forming processes, but also processes in warm and hot forming regimes, by the finite-element method, including the effects of strain, strain-rate, and temperature on material properties. Most recent achievement is an introduction of a new approach to the problem of preform design in shell nosing as a unique application of the finite-element method. The concept involved in the approach is to trace backward the loading path from a given final configuration. The method was applied to preform design in shell nosing. (Author).

Book Design of Tools for Deformation Processes

Download or read book Design of Tools for Deformation Processes written by T. Z. Blazynski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the problem of tool design - involving both the selection of suitable geometry and material- has exercised the attention of metal forming engineers for as long as this industrial activity has existed, the approach to its solution has been generally that of the 'trial and error' variety. It is only relatively recently that the continuing expansion of the bulk metal-forming industry, combined with an increase in the degree of sophistication required of its products and processes, has focussed attention on the problem of optimisation of tool design. This, in turn, produced a considerable expansion of theoretical and practical investi gations of the existing methods, techniques r,nd concepts, and helped to systematise our thinking and ideas in this area of engineering activity. In the virtual absence, so far, of a single, encyclopaedic, but sufficien tly deep, summation of the state of the art, a group of engineers and materials scientists felt that an opportune moment had arrived to try and produce, concisely, answers to many tool designers' dilemmas. This book attempts to set, in perspective, the existing - and proven - concepts of design, to show their respective advantages and weaknesses and to indicate how they should be applied to the individual main forming processes of rolling, drawing, extrusion and forging.

Book Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes

Download or read book Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes written by Peter Hartley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal aim of this text is to encourage the development and application of numerical modelling techniques as an aid to achieving greater efficiency and optimization of metal-forming processes. The contents of this book have therefore been carefully planned to provide both an introduction to the fundamental theory of material deformation simulation, and also a comprehensive survey of the "state-of-the-art" of deformation modelling techniques and their application to specific and industrially relevant processes. To this end, leading international figures in the field of material deformation research have been invited to contribute chapters on subjects on which they are acknowledged experts. The information in this book has been arranged in four parts: Part I deals with plasticity theory, Part II with various numerical modelling techniques, Part III with specific process applications and material phenomena and Part IV with integrated computer systems. The objective of Part I is to establish the underlying theory of material deformation on which the following chapters can build. It begins with a chapter which reviews the basic theories of classical plasticity and describes their analytical representations. The second chapter moves on to look at the theory of deforming materials and shows how these expressions may be used in numerical techniques. The last two chapters of Part I provide a review of isotropic plasticity and anisotropic plasticity.

Book Superplastic Forming of Advanced Metallic Materials

Download or read book Superplastic Forming of Advanced Metallic Materials written by G Giuliano and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultra fine-grained metals can show exceptional ductility, known as superplasticity, during sheet forming. The higher ductility of superplastic metals makes it possible to form large and complex components in a single operation without joints or rivets. The result is less waste, lower weight and manufacturing costs, high precision and lack of residual stress associated with welding which makes components ideal for aerospace, automotive and other applications. Superplastic forming of advanced metallic materials summarises key recent research on this important process. Part one reviews types of superplastic metals, standards for superplastic forming, processes and equipment. Part two discusses ways of modelling superplastic forming processes whilst the final part of the book considers applications, including superplastic forming of titanium, aluminium and magnesium alloys. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Superplastic forming of advanced metallic materials is a valuable reference for metallurgists and engineers in such sectors as aerospace and automotive engineering. Book Dynamic Plasticity

Download or read book Dynamic Plasticity written by N. Cristescu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a self-contained and comprehensive look at the field of dynamic plasticity for researchers and graduates in mechanical engineering. Drawing on the author''s long career in the field, the book greatly extends material from the 1967 original edition with the addition of fresh research chapters as well as a full introduction to the elementary theory of plasticity. The coverage of new areas includes a chapter on rocks and soils, the various developments in research on rate type, and novel problems concerning non-homogenous Bingham fluids, such as flow along an inclined slope. Other chapters consider the latest issues in metal working, such as drawing, floating plug, and extrusion. New problems concerning the perforation of plates with high velocity are also included.

Book Finite Element Plasticity and Metalforming Analysis

Download or read book Finite Element Plasticity and Metalforming Analysis written by G. W. Rowe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-07-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Plasticity and Metalforming Analysis is concerned with describing a computer based technique for aiding the optimisation of metalforming processes. These methods should enable tool and product designers to reduce development lead times for the introduction of new products, to optimise the process and to help improve the quality and reliability of products. The book is specifically devoted to the finite element method and its use in plasticity problems. It details the theoretical background assuming little previous knowledge, and describes how it can be implemented and used to examine realistic metalforming processes. Forging, rolling and extrusion are typical processes covered, in addition to specific problems such as ductile fracture and how it can be predicted. It is the first text that describes in detail elastic-plastic finite-element theory and how it is used in forming analyses. The technique described can be used to simulate metal flow in 2- and 3-D problems and can provide details of stress, strain, strain-rate and temperature distributions in the workpiece as it is being formed.
