Book FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER IN POROUS ENCLOSURES

Download or read book FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER IN POROUS ENCLOSURES written by Subrat Das and published by Infotech Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL The transport, reaction, and phase change of fluid in natural and engineered porous media rely on the knowledge gained in studying these phenomena in otherwise plain media. The presence of permeable solid (which is assumed to be rigid and stationary) influences these phenomena significantly. So fluid flow and heat transfer in porous media have become a separate topic for research in the past forty years in view of their importance in various applications

Book Conjugate Problems in Convective Heat Transfer

Download or read book Conjugate Problems in Convective Heat Transfer written by Abram S. Dorfman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-08-26 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrates Calculations Using Machine and Technological Processes The conjugate heat transfer (CHT) problem addresses the thermal interaction between a body and fluid flowing over or through it. This is an essential consideration in nature and different areas of engineering, including mechanics, aerospace, nuclear engineering, biology, and meteorology. Advanced conjugate modeling of the heat transfer process is now used extensively in a wide range of applications. Conjugate Problems in Convective Heat Transfer addresses the latest theory, methods, and applications associated with both analytical and numerical methods of solution CHT problems and their exact and approximate solutions. It demonstrates how the true value of a CHT solution is derived by applying these solutions to contemporary engineering design analysis. Assembling cutting-edge information on modern modeling from more than 200 publications, this book presents more than 100 example applications in thermal treatment materials, machinery operation, and technological processes. Creating a practical review of current CHT development, the author includes methods associated with estimating heat transfer, particularly that from arbitrary non-isothermal surfaces in both laminar and turbulent flows. Harnesses the Modeling Power of CHT Unique in its consistent compilation and application of current knowledge, this book presents advanced CHT analysis as a powerful tool for modeling various device operations and technological processes, from relatively simple procedures to complex multistage, nonlinear processes.

Book Finite Element Analyses of Coupled Heat and Moisture Transport in Cylindrical Porous Media and Coal Logs

Download or read book Finite Element Analyses of Coupled Heat and Moisture Transport in Cylindrical Porous Media and Coal Logs written by Ssu-Hsueh Sun and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 766 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study is to determine the transient temperature and moisture distributions within finite porous solid cylinders during heating, cooling, and drying. This study includes a literature review, experiments, and a computer model for finite element analyses (FEA). The partial differential equations by Luikov are used to simulate the coupling of heat and mass transfer phenomena, including Soret effect and evaporation. Their solution required input of heat and mass transfer coefficients. These coefficients were obtained from drying experiments by the psychrometry method. The results were correlated in terms of dimensionless numbers: Nu$\rm\sb{h}=0.059\ Re\sp{0.65}\ Gu\sp{-0.44}$ and Nu$\rm\sb{m}=0.049\ Re\sp{0.67}\ Gu\sp{-0.44}$; where Gu is Gukhman number which is defined as $\rm(T\sb{\infty}$-T$\rm\sb{w})/T\sb{\infty}.$ An extensible FEA framework approach was developed to numerically solve the Luikov equations. The framework. includes a set of object-oriented programs. The extensible FEA framework was demonstrated by a set of examples. The examples extend from steady state to transient problems (Poisson to heat conduction equations), and from the scalar to vector problems (heat conduction to Luikov equations). The specific examples are four application cases related to the heating, cooling and drying of porous solid cylinders with constant transport properties. Two cases simulate coal log heating and cooling during their compaction. The other two cases simulate coal log drying in ambient air. In these FEA simulations, coal logs are modeled as a two-dimensional axially symmetric cylinder. These simulations provide new quantitative predictions of detailed temperature and moisture distributions in finite porous cylinders. The Soret effect, evaporation and geometry cause the temporal temperature and moisture distributions to be nonlinear and dependent on the length-to-diameter ratio. The average temperature and moisture values provide information useful for the design of heating, cooling, and drying systems in coal log manufacture.

Book Finite Element Analysis of Convective Heat Transfer Flow of a Micropolar Fluid Through a Porous Medium in Channels Ducts

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Convective Heat Transfer Flow of a Micropolar Fluid Through a Porous Medium in Channels Ducts written by Dr S Sreenatha Reddy and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of buoyancy driver convection flows through porous media has been stimulated by its application in several geophysical and engineering problems.Interests in understanding the connection transportation in porous material is increasing owing to the development of geothermal energy technology, high performance insulation for building and cold storage drying technology and many other areas. The theory of micro fluids, as developed by Eringen [6] has been a field of active research for the last few decades as this class of fluids represents mathematically many industrially important fluids like paints, blood, body fluids, polymers, colloidal fluids and suspension fluids. In this material points in a volume element can undergo motions about centers of mass along with deformation. The problem of simple micro fluid contains a system of 19 equations with 19 unknowns so that it becomes difficult to find solution. A subclass of thee fluids introduced by Erignen [7], is the micro polar fluids, which exhibit the micro rotational effects and micro rotational inertia under these assumptions deformation of the fluid microelements is ignored: nevertheless micro rotational effects are still present and surface and body couples are permitted. Here in the skew symmetric property of the gyration tensor is imposed mathematically in addition to a condition of micro isotropy, so that the system of 19 equations reduces to seven equations in seven unknowns.
