Book Bond Stress and Slip Modeling in Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Structures

Download or read book Bond Stress and Slip Modeling in Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Structures written by Youai Gan and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stress transfer behavior between reinforcing steel and surrounding concrete through bond and slip plays an important role in the response of reinforced concrete structures, especially in their hysteretic response. This thesis studies the bond-slip relationship under both monotonic loading and cyclic loading. Two types of bond elements, contact elements and linkage elements, are developed and bond stiffness matrices are derived. Four bond-slip models are presented based on the findings of previous experimental studies. The degradation of bond resistance is included in the bond-slip models. The two bond elements and four bond-slip models are added into the nonlinear finite element program TRIX99. The finite element models are then used to study the behavior of reinforced concrete walls subjected to cyclic lateral load. The accuracy of the models are assessed by comparison of the finite element numerical response with experimental data from four reinforced concrete shear walls tested under cyclic loading. The NLFEA program with the nonlinear material models for concrete, reinforcing bar and bond-slip is capable of reproducing the important features of the measured hysteretic response of reinforced concrete walls with a variety of cyclic loading histories and configurations of walls. The program is able to successfully predict the load-deflection values of the reinforced concrete structures under cyclic loading. The proposed finite element method provides an efficient method for evaluating the monotonic and cyclic response of the reinforced concrete structures.

Book Finite Element Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Structures Using Post Tensioning Steel

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Structures Using Post Tensioning Steel written by Yu Huang and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the theory and applications of finite element (FE) modeling of post-tensioned (PT) concrete structures, and provides the updated MATLAB code (as of 2019). The challenge of modeling PT prestressed concrete structures lies in the treatment of the interface between the concrete and prestressing tendons. Using MATLAB, this study develops an innovative nonlinear FE formulation which incorporates contact techniques and engineering elements to considerably reduce the need of computational power. This FE formulation has the ability to simulate different PT frame systems with fully bonded, fully unbonded or partially bonded tendons, as well as actual sliding behavior and frictional effects in the tendons. It also allows for the accurate simulation of anchor seating loss.

Book Sustainable Construction Materials

Download or read book Sustainable Construction Materials written by Ravindra K. Dhir OBE and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-05 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Construction Materials: Recycled Aggregate focuses on the massive systematic need that is necessary to encourage the uptake of recycled and secondary materials (RSM) in the construction industry. This book is the fifth and the last of the series on sustainable construction materials and like the previous four, it is also different to the norm. Its uniqueness lies in using the newly developed, Analytical Systemisation Method, in building the data-matrix sourced from 1413 publications, contributed by 2213 authors from 965 institutions in 67 countries, from 1977 to 2018, on the subject of recycled aggregate as a construction material, and systematically analysing, evaluating and modelling this information for use of the material as an aggregate concrete and mortar, geotechnics and road pavement applications. Environmental issues, case studies and standards are also discussed. The work establishes what is already known and can be used to further progress the use of sustainable construction materials. It can also help to avoid repetitive research and save valuable resources. The book is structured in an incisive and easy to digest manner and is particularly suited for researchers, academics, design engineers, specifiers, contractors, and government bodies dealing with construction works. Provides an exhaustive and comprehensively organized list of globally-based published literature spanning 5000 references Offers an analysis, evaluation, repackaging and modeling of existing knowledge that encourages more responsible use of waste materials Provides a wealth of knowledge for use in many sectors relating to the construction profession, including academia, research, practice and adoption of RSM
