Book excerpt: Whether we admit it or not, sanctification is often misunderstood, misapplied, or ignored altogether. There is a danger in attempting to follow Jesus apart from His commands, provisions, and promises. Without a coherent, biblically informed understanding of God-His holiness, His attributes, His character-any grace driven efforts of Christian growth will be truncated at best. Now that Christ has saved us, how does that work itself out in love? What are some of the things we should know as a follower of The Way? What if I just don't feel like growing in the Lord? Inside Be Holy: Learning the Path of Sanctification, Jason Garwood explores the terrain of sanctification in a comprehensive and easy to understand way. It's saturated in Scripture and rooted in the church's history of holiness-the ups and downs of growth and change in the Christian life. And at the center of Be Holy sits the reigning King Jesus and the work of the trinitarian God in the gospel. May God stir up your affections as you behold His glory and walk the path of sanctification.

Book The Pathway to Holiness

Download or read book The Pathway to Holiness written by Ejere Omoikhojie and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-04-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Central to God's character is the quality of holiness. Incidentally, most modern preachers tend to avoid preaching it, even, Christians now see it as vague, outdated and inconsistent with present day realities. Most preachers are more obsessed with prosperity sermons which their audience are delighted in. Christianity without righteousness and holiness is like a broken exotic wine bottle. "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matt.7:32). Incidentally, most Christians are seeking first worldly things above eternal things. The reason for the existence of poverty, barrenness, wretchedness, sickness and death in churches is because holiness is completely lost. Sadly, Satan has stolen holiness in present-day churches and stripped them naked. Equally sad is the fact that most Christians have surrendered their birthright to Mamoon of money. Many preachers now tell their congregants to do what they say and not what they do. Churches have disconnected themselves from their source of strength after having traded away holiness for mundane things; they now become ineffectual When, we look closely unto Christ; we get a true picture of what holiness entails and how far we appear below r his standard and areas we need to make amends. Holiness is not a destination but a journey. Holiness is the unredeemable standard of God for His children. As God's people; holiness should be our nature and righteousness our lifestyle. Holiness means doing what God wants us to do and avoid those things He hates. It is not suppression of sins but an inner transformation to be Christ-like. The cry of God to this morally depraved world and his tumor He has been nursing about the church is, "Every second, my heart bleeds seeing atrocities in the world. Therefore, my children embrace the tenants of Holiness". That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word. That He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. (Eph.5:26-27). Whenever, a Christian says in public, "I am born -again child of God", most unbelievers tend to wink. In the time past, most blue-chip companies entertained recommendation of applicants from church leaders. These days, church leaders are finding it extremely difficult to vouch for even their pastors! It goes to show how immorality has eaten deep into the fabric of the society and the church which Christ ransomed with His precious blood. This book teaches the fundamentals of holiness and the practical steps to attain it. All believers that are thirsty for holiness will find this book; an indispensable treasure

Book Sanctification Be Holy a Guide to Discipleship

Download or read book Sanctification Be Holy a Guide to Discipleship written by Marc A. Carr and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are to take to heart our personal holiness simply because we have been saved to do so. The process of sanctification is essentially a three fold work: First, sanctification is the cleansing of the soul from sin. Second, sanctification brings us to full stature in Christ. Third, sanctification separates us to the Lord for His purposes. There will be, in practicality, varying degrees of thoroughness relative to the riddance of sin versus growth in Christ-like stature because of the varying degrees of human cooperation with the Holy Spirit or lack thereof. Still, sanctification is the active work of the Spirit though such a calling may appear passive, even absent, due to the lack of knowledge, the slothfulness and the rebellion of the saint. It is these three that best represent much of our present religious atmosphere. Where there is lack of knowledge [about sanctification] there has to be indolence, laziness and rebellion in the form of indifference about personal holiness. And rebellion is a very strong word that should not be used without qualification by the one making the charge or taken lightly by the one addressed. To use the word with its' passive counterpart in this case, indifference, is to bring an indictment against a sizeable portion of the body of Christ. Life is about sin, death then hell. Or life is about God, Christ and responding to the Holy Spirit. To grasp the continual need of sanctification one has to know who the real enemy is in order to receive real relief by sanctification. The real enemy is within. We are self deceived, whose roots of deception are affixed to Satan, Adam and the fall; in that order, eventuating in our fallen nature, in desperate need of God's provisions. And thankfully God has supplied us with every provision through the process of sanctification. Marc presently lives in Orlando Florida where he pastors Blessed Fellowship Orlando, an outreach ministry of Orlando Prayer and Worship Center, Senior Pastor Roy Futch.

Have you wanted to know how you might better defeat nagging sins, and find new freedom? Sanctification: A User's Guide to Becoming More Like Jesus offers you a deep understanding of precisely how you can grow in likeness to Jesus Christ. Based upon a careful study of the teachings of the Bible, and great leaders of the Reformation, Sanctification presents a clear and compelling approach to daily practices which will actually assist the Christian in spiritual growth through relying on the grace of God to transform them. Starting with a framework for understanding what holiness is, Sanctification shows you how to: desire holiness, rely on God's grace, apprehend God's life-altering love, grow in faith and repentance, deny one's self, and engage the church. While many books on sanctification emphasize one or two aspects of the Christian's growth in holiness Sanctification presents a complete approach to a biblical lifestyle which helps one grow more like Christ.

Book excerpt: The way of peace and the way of holiness lie side by side, or rather, they are one. That which bestows the one imparts the other; and he who takes the one takes the other also. The Spirit of peace is the Spirit of holiness. The two are not independent. There is fellowship between them, vital fellowship, each being the helpmeet of the other. The fellowship is not of mere coincidence, as in the case of strangers who happen to meet on the same path, nor of arbitrary appointment, as in the case of two parallel roads, but of mutual help and sympathy--like the fellowship of head and heart, or of two members of one body, the peace being indispensable to the production or causation of the holiness, and the holiness indispensable to the maintaining and deepening of the peace.

Book The Way of Sanctification

Download or read book The Way of Sanctification written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by Christian Way. This book was released on 2018-07-26 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this book are fundamental. God calls all who are His to a sanctified life. The life of a believer in which sin reigns is subnormal. Howe-ver, many believers find themselves bound by sin. They are like Lazarus walking out of the tomb with life, but in bonda-ge. In this book, we have attempted to show as clearly as we can, the way to deliverance from sin. We do not believe that anyone can be as sinless as the Lord Jesus was while in this body of flesh, but this state is already accomplished in the Lord Jesus and therefore, we can be delivered once and for all from the bond-age of sin. We also see that this deli-verance, though entered into as a crisis, must be maintained daily by a very close walk with the Lord, in full co-operation with Him, by the use of the sanctified mind. The Psalmist asked, "How can a young man keep his way pure?" He provided the answer as follows, "By guarding it accor-ding to thy word. With my whole heart I seek thee, let me not wan-der from thy commandment! I have laid up thy word in my heart, that I might not sin against thee. Blessed be thou, O Lord; teach me thy statutes! With my lips I declare all the ordinances of thy mouth. In the way of thy testi-monies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on thy precepts, and fix my eyes on thy ways. I will delight in thy statutes; I will not forget thy word" (Psalm 119:9-16). We believe with him that daily Bible study and prayer (The Quiet Time) is indispensable in maintaining the sanctified life which is first entered into by faith in the finished work of Christ. Holiness is not just the absence of sin. It includes conformity to God. Sanctification is an aspect of holiness. Our prayer is that the Lord will use this book to work out sanctifica-tion in many lives and that many will attain unto "the holiness without which no one will see the Lord."

Book Holiness

  • ISBN : 1598562223
  • Pages : 458 pages

Download or read book Holiness written by J. C. Ryle and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. C. Ryle's "Holiness " is a lost treasure, written by one of the great Anglican priests and writers of the nineteenth century. Hendrickson reintroduces this classic text, largely unavailable today, on living a Christ-like life. "Holiness " is considered to be one of the most profound books on discipleship in the English language. Christians have recognized anew the critical importance of discipleship and spiritual formation to the life of the individual believer, the local church and to the Kingdom of God. Ryle's "Holiness " ranks among the core library of teachings on being a disciple of Jesus Christ. In this book, Ryle encourages the reader into a life of holiness, drawn completely from the Bible and not from contemporary books or preachers, or from any of the fads that were popular during his lifetime, much as they are today or in any era. He is writing about personal, or private, holiness, the life we live behind closed doors with our families and closest friends. "I have had a deep conviction for many years that practical holiness and entire self-consecration to God are not sufficiently attended by modern Christians in this country. Politics, controversy, or party-spirit, or worldliness, have eaten out the heart of lively piety in too many of us. The subject of personal godliness has fallen sadly into the background." --"J. C. Ryle "

Book Science and the Eastern Orthodox Church

Download or read book Science and the Eastern Orthodox Church written by Daniel Buxhoeveden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science and the Eastern Orthodox Church explores core theological and philosophical notions and contentious topics such as evolution from the vantage point of science, Orthodox theology, and the writings of popular recent Orthodox critics as well as supporters. Examining what science is and why Eastern Orthodox Christians should be concerned about the topic, including a look at well known 20th century figures that are considered holy elders or saints in the Orthodox Church and their relationship and thoughts about science, contributors analyse the historical contingencies that contribute to the relationship of the Orthodox Church and science both in the past and present. Part II includes critiques of science and considers its limitations and strengths in light of Orthodox understandings of the experience of God and the so called miraculous, together with analysis of two Orthodox figures of the 20th century that were highly critical of science, it's foundations and metaphysical assumptions. Part III looks at selected topics in science and how they relate to Orthodox theology, including evolution, brain evolution and consciousness, beginning of life science, nanotechnology, stem cell research and others. Drawing together leading Orthodox scientists, theologians, and historians confronting some of the critical issues and uses of modern science, this book will be useful for students, academics and clergy who want to develop a greater understanding of how to relate Orthodoxy to science.
