Book excerpt: The structure of the work – as indicated earlier – is based on solving the research problem posed. It results from the adopted goals and formulated research hypotheses. The need to analyse the above issues related to the research area was included in the structure of the thesis, divided into four chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the issues of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. It presents key definitions and classifications based on the existing legal framework in Poland. A statistical review of SMEs was conducted and the role of this sector of enterprises in the national economy was shown. The third chapter analyses the activities of business environment institutions in the area of financial support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. The analysis included the activities of loan funds, guarantee funds, business angel networks and private equity/venture capital funds on the Polish market. The fourth chapter of the paper concerns the analysis of the functioning of business environment institutions in the field of financing support on the basis of research conducted among micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland. It presents the methodology of the research, characterizes the research sample and analyses the results obtained. Book Financial Regulation in the European Union

Download or read book Financial Regulation in the European Union written by Rainer Kattel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection offers a comparative overview of how financial regulations have evolved in various European countries since the introduction of the single European market in 1986. It includes a number of country studies which provides a narrative of the domestic financial regulatory structure at the beginning of the period, as well the means by which the EU Directives have been introduced into domestic legislation and the impact on the financial structure of the economy. In particular, studies highlight how the discretion allowed by the Directives has been used to meet the then existing domestic conditions and financial structure as well as how they have modified that structure. Countries covered are France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Hungary and Slovenia. The book also contains an overview of regulatory changes in the UK and Nordic countries, and in post-crisis USA. This comparative approach raises questions about whether past and more recent regulatory changes have in fact contributed to increase financial stability in the EU. The comparative analysis provided in this book raises questions on whether the past and more recent changes are contributing to increase the financial stability and efficiency of individual banks and national financial systems. The crisis has demonstrated the drawbacks of formulating the regulatory framework on standards borrowed from the best industry practices from the large developed countries, originally designed exclusively for large global banks, but now applied to all financial institutions.

Book Financial Systems in Transition

Download or read book Financial Systems in Transition written by Alexander Fleming and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now ten years since the former Soviet Union collapses and the countries of Europe and Central Asia abandoned central planning. Enough experience has accumulated to allow a more reflective study of the transition period. One of the most critical elements of the transition to a market-based economy has been the establishment of the institutions and markets that constitute a financial system. This book examines financial transition through the lens of flow of funds accounts. These accounts have been used in the OECD countries for many years as an aid in analyzing money flows around their financial systems. This is the first time, however, that an attempt has been made to interpret financial transition from this perspective and it has yielded what the authors consider to be new, useful insights into the processes. The book reviews the evolution of financial systems in eight transition countries: Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Romania. Each chapter draws upon a flow of funds analysis to illuminate the relationship between macroeconomic performance and the evolving pattern of financial flows through the emerging markets and institutions. The introductory chapter discusses the nature of the flow of funds approach and its applicability to transition economies, while another chapter compares and contrasts the macroeconomic and financial performances of the eight countries by focusing on the orientation of sectoral imbalances within each economy and the nature of financing flows associated with them.

Book Risk Management in the Polish Financial System

Download or read book Risk Management in the Polish Financial System written by Marian Noga and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-21 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With globalisation comes an increase in the threat from systemic risk. As national economies become more globally entwined many argue that insufficient attention is being given to systemic risk; a principal contributor to recent economic crises. Focusing on the Polish financial system, this book addresses this critical issue within a global economic context. It advocates that accurate risk management practices and appropriate micro and macroeconomic policies can be created and maintained in order to manage systemic risk at both a national and international level. The book reviews current systemic risk management practices, analysing stability and existing micro- and macroprudential policies, before examining the current risks involved in investing in financial instruments and those associated with investing in stock exchanges. It offers suggestions for the effective implementation of a well-designed public policy, through well managed fiscal and monetary policies, and reflects the roles of households and companies in planning, organizing, and controlling socio-economic activity to control risk. Risk Management in the Polish Financial System aims to redefine the taxonomy of systemic risk, offering practical and regulatory socio-economic processes which can be applied to current risk management practices, as well as provide a risk map for the years to come.

Book Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe

Download or read book Organization and Financing of Public Health Services in Europe written by Who Regional Office for Europe and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2018-06-29 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are public health services? Countries across Europe understand what they are or what they should include differently. This study describes the experiences of nine countries detailing the ways they have opted to organize and finance public health services and train and employ their public health workforce. It covers England France Germany Italy the Netherlands Slovenia Sweden Poland and the Republic of Moldova and aims to give insights into current practice that will support decision-makers in their efforts to strengthen public health capacities and services. Each country chapter captures the historical background of public health services and the context in which they operate; sets out the main organizational structures; assesses the sources of public health financing and how it is allocated; explains the training and employment of the public health workforce; and analyses existing frameworks for quality and performance assessment. The study reveals a wide range of experience and variation across Europe and clearly illustrates two fundamentally different approaches to public health services: integration with curative health services (as in Slovenia or Sweden) or organization and provision through a separate parallel structure (Republic of Moldova). The case studies explore the context that explain this divergence and its implications. This study is the result of close collaboration between the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the WHO Regional Office for Europe Division of Health Systems and Public Health. It accompanies two other Observatory publications Organization and financing of public health services in Europe and The role of public health organizations in addressing public health problems in Europe: the case of obesity alcohol and antimicrobial resistance (both forthcoming).

Book New Trends in Finance and Accounting

Download or read book New Trends in Finance and Accounting written by David Procházka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-25 with total page 823 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most current trends in the field of finance and accounting from an international perspective. Featuring contributions presented at the 17th Annual Conference on Finance and Accounting at the University of Economics in Prague, this title provides a mix of research methods used to uncover the hidden consequences of accounting convergence in the private (IFRS) and public sectors (IPSAS). Topics covered include international taxation (from both the micro- and macroeconomic level), international investment, monetary economics, risk management, management accounting, auditing, investment capital, corporate finance and banking, among others. The global business environment shapes the international financial flows of finance and the demand for international harmonization of accounting. As such, the field of global finance and accounting has encountered some new challenges. For example, policy-makers and regulators are forced to restructure their tools to tackle with new features of trading at global capital markets and international investment. This book complements this global view of development with country-specific studies, focusing on emerging and transitioning economies, which are affected indirectly and in unforeseen ways. The combination of global perspective and local specifics makes this volume attractive and useful to academics, researchers, regulators and policy-makers in the field of finance and accounting.

Book Macro Prudential Policies to Mitigate Financial System Vulnerabilities

Download or read book Macro Prudential Policies to Mitigate Financial System Vulnerabilities written by Mr.Stijn Claessens and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2014-08-19 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macro-prudential policies aimed at mitigating systemic financial risks have become part of the policy toolkit in many emerging markets and some advanced countries. Their effectiveness and efficacy are not well-known, however. Using panel data regressions, we analyze how changes in balance sheets of some 2,800 banks in 48 countries over 2000–2010 respond to specific macro-prudential policies. Controlling for endogeneity, we find that measures aimed at borrowers––caps on debt-to-income and loan-to-value ratios––and at financial institutions––limits on credit growth and foreign currency lending––are effective in reducing asset growth. Countercyclical buffers are little effective through the cycle, and some measures are even counterproductive during downswings, serving to aggravate declines, consistent with the ex-ante nature of macro-prudential tools.

Book Poland in the Single Market

Download or read book Poland in the Single Market written by Anna Visvizi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-21 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By all accounts, the case of Poland and its segue to market economy and democracy is a success story: 30 years of uninterrupted growth and development, infrastructure expansion, and modernization of the economy and society. Epochal changes have unfolded in a timespan of merely three decades. Change has taken place so fast that children born in late 1980s and onwards cannot remember what life in Poland under communism was like and cannot relate to it. Also, many elderly people, easy victims of romanticizing their own youth, tend to forget. As a result, the uniqueness of Polish transition and transformation, the boldness and efficiency of reforms, and the success that Polish society mastered together, tend to be undermined today both domestically and internationally. Poland has now been a member of the EU for more than 15 years. During that time, Poland’s image on the EU scene evolved from newcomer, through ‘model child’, champion of growth, to – in some respects – a maverick. This volume’s objective is to remind society, old and young, researchers, scholars and practitioners, that Poland’s success is an outcome of well-thought out and bold structural reforms implemented in a swift and timely manner, of society’s support for these reforms, and of third actors’ benign assistance. Looking back on the 30 years since the collapse of communism, and at the over 15 years of EU membership, this book offers an interdisciplinary, comprehensive and critical insight into factors and processes that have led to today’s Poland.
