Book Financial Integration and Firm Performance

Download or read book Financial Integration and Firm Performance written by Mariassunta Giannetti and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the positive growth effects of financial integration are extensively documented, little is known of its impact on small and young firms. This paper aims to fill this void relying on a panel of 60,000 firm-year observations on listed and unlisted companies in Eastern European economies to assess the differential impact of foreign bank lending on firm growth and financing. Foreign lending stimulates growth in firm sales, assets, and use of financial debt even though the effect is dampened for small firms. More strikingly, young firms benefit most from foreign bank presence, while businesses connected to domestic banks or to the government suffer. Overall, our findings suggest that foreign banks can help to mitigate connected-lending problems and to improve capital allocation.

Book Toward an Integrative Explanation of Corporate Financial Performance

Download or read book Toward an Integrative Explanation of Corporate Financial Performance written by N. Capon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a milestone on our journey toward developing a more comprehensive understanding of the underpinnings of corporate financial performance. Weare concerned with both the factors that cause the financial performance of some firms to be better than others at a point in time and those factors that influence the trajectory of firm financial performance over time. In addressing these issues, we consider theoretical and empirical work on financial performance, drawn from several literatures, as well as present the results from our own empirical study. The review of the theoretical and empirical work is contemporary; the major portion of data comprising the empirical study was collected in the early 1980s as part of the Columbia Business School project on corporate strategic planning, but some data sequences extend into the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Our goals are to improve understanding of firm financial performance by developing a more integrated framework and to develop a research agenda based on what we have learned. This volume consists of four chapters, 12 appendices that provide detailed technical support and development for various portions of the discussion and an extensive set of references. It interweaves results from published literature in various fields with our original empirical work and develops an integrative approach to the study of firm fmancial performance.

Book A Structure Conduct Performance Perspective of How Strategic Supply Chain Integration Affects Firm Performance

Download or read book A Structure Conduct Performance Perspective of How Strategic Supply Chain Integration Affects Firm Performance written by Peter Ralston and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are several factors which affect a firm's ability to successfully integrate internally and externally for organizational improvement. This study seeks to understand the relationship between a firm's strategy, its supply chain integration efforts, and firm performance. Leveraging the theoretical lens of structure - conduct - performance (SCP) from the industrial organization economics literature, and utilizing both archival and survey data, we describe how firms may align their internal and external supply chain integration strategies with customers and suppliers. In doing so, these internal and external integration strategies affect the firm's ability to respond to customer demand, which then impacts operational and financial performance. Our work provides theoretical and empirical evidence of these relationships and thus extends prior strategic supply chain integration literature.

Book Information Systems Organizational Culture and Financial Performance of Mergers and Acquisitions

Download or read book Information Systems Organizational Culture and Financial Performance of Mergers and Acquisitions written by Yaakov Weber and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though the relationship between information systems (IS) and firm performance continues to be an important subject to researchers and practitioners, a great deal of controversy exists about whether investment in IS contributes to financial performance. This study tests the relationship between financial performance of mergers and acquisitions (M & As) and the extent of integration of the respective IS environments. Further, while organizational culture has been acknowledged to be a potentially important factor in any IS implementation, its relationships to the management of IS have not been rigorously examined. The present study tests the effect of organizational culture on the relationship between IS integration and financial performance while simultaneously considering the intensity of using information technology (IT) within the company as a moderating variable. The findings suggest that the ability to convert IS investments into better performance might be contingent on (a) IT intensity and (b) overcoming cultural barriers.

To survive and prosper under conditions of change, firms must develop the “dynamic capabilities” to create, extend, and modify the ways in which they operate. The capacity of an organization to create, extend, or modify its resource base is vital. Since the concept of dynamic capabilities was first introduced, much research has elaborated the initial idea. This important book by Constance Helfat and her team of leading scholars provides a timely focus on in-depth examples of corporate dynamic capabilities. Examining these in the different contexts of alliances, acquisitions, and management, the book gives students and researchers a succinct, up-to-date definition of dynamic capabilities and the strategic management theories around them.
