Book Fortin s Children s Rights and the Developing Law

Download or read book Fortin s Children s Rights and the Developing Law written by Rachel E. Taylor and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 793 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion that children constitute an important group of rights holders has gained increasing acceptance both domestically and internationally. Nevertheless, this rhetorical commitment to children's rights is not necessarily realised in practice. Now in its fourth edition, Fortin's Children's Rights and the Developing Law explores the extent to which law and policy in England promotes or undermines the rights of children. Fully revised and updated, this textbook uses current research on child development and welfare to reflect on the extent to which the law fulfils children's rights in a wide range of areas, including medical law, education and child poverty. These developments are measured again the domestic law and the UK's international obligations under, for example, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Book First Annual Report of the Inter Departmental Ministerial Group on Human Trafficking

Download or read book First Annual Report of the Inter Departmental Ministerial Group on Human Trafficking written by Great Britain: Inter-Departmental Ministerial Group on Human Trafficking and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2012-10-18 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report sets out an assessment of human trafficking in the UK. Fuelled primarily by those who seek to make a profit from the misery of others, human trafficking is the vilest of crimes and equates to modern day slavery. Men, women and children from across the world are exploited and forced into performing services or other work against their will. In some instances the exploitation can be experienced over a prolonged period of time. Those who are exploited may face years of sexual abuse, forced labour, or domestic servitude and, in many instances never fully recover from their traumatic experience. In 2011, 946 potential victims of human trafficking were referred to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM). Of these, 634 were females and 312 were males, 712 were adults and 234 were children. The majority of potential child victims were reported to be in the 16-17 year old age category. The UK Government published its Human Trafficking Strategy in 2011 which aims to take a comprehensive approach by focusing on preventing trafficking activity and maintaining effective care for victims. Although the UK has already achieved significant progress in the fight against trafficking, it recognises that any response must be able to quickly adapt and evolve to keep pace with the traffickers. Three key areas have been identified where further concerted effort is needed to improve and strengthen the UK's approach: data capture and intelligence sharing, training and awareness raising for front-line professionals, and coordinating prevention activities

Book Children and International Human Rights Law

Download or read book Children and International Human Rights Law written by Aisling Parkes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989 is one of the most highly ratified human rights treaties in the world, with 192 states currently signed up to it. Article Twelve is fundamental to the Convention and states that all children capable of forming views have the right to express those views, and recognises that all children have the right to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting them. This book explores the historical and theoretical background to Article Twelve, and examines the various models of participation which have been created to facilitate a better understanding of this provision.
