Book excerpt: Hyena is a collection of autobiographical stories by Jude Angelini, which takes the reader on his journey of heartbreak, depravity, and hilarity, deftly moving between his adult life and his childhood growing up in a factory town outside of Detroit. Each story is told with brutal honesty, yet maintains a gallows humor that will leave you shaking your head in disbelief. Jude is one of the top hip-hop radio hosts on Sirius Satellite radio. His self-published, print-on-demand edition of Hyena has been an indie bestseller, despite having no ebook or physical distribution. Its exploration of drugs, sex, and the human condition compares to Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, Artie Lange, and Jim Norton. It also captures the hardscrabble culture, language, and landscape of post-industrial Detroit, from which came some of pop culture's most compelling artists.

Book Fins into Limbs

    Book Details:
  • Author : Brian K. Hall
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2008-09-15
  • ISBN : 0226313409
  • Pages : 461 pages

Download or read book Fins into Limbs written by Brian K. Hall and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long ago, fish fins evolved into the limbs of land vertebrates and tetrapods. During this transition, some elements of the fin were carried over while new features developed. Lizard limbs, bird wings, and human arms and legs are therefore all evolutionary modifications of the original tetrapod limb. A comprehensive look at the current state of research on fin and limb evolution and development, this volume addresses a wide range of subjects—including growth, structure, maintenance, function, and regeneration. Divided into sections on evolution, development, and transformations, the book begins with a historical introduction to the study of fins and limbs and goes on to consider the evolution of limbs into wings as well as adaptations associated with specialized modes of life, such as digging and burrowing. Fins into Limbs also discusses occasions when evolution appears to have been reversed—in whales, for example, whose front limbs became flippers when they reverted to the water—as well as situations in which limbs are lost, such as in snakes. With contributions from world-renowned researchers, Fins into Limbs will be a font for further investigations in the changing field of evolutionary developmental biology.

Book A Summary of Aerodynamic Characteristics for Wrap around Fins from Mach 0 3 to 3 0

Download or read book A Summary of Aerodynamic Characteristics for Wrap around Fins from Mach 0 3 to 3 0 written by James A. Humphrey and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wrap-around fin effectiveness for tube-launched missiles was investigated in a series of 6 wind tunnel tests. Wind tunnels were AEDC Propulsion Wind Tunnel, NASA/Langley Research Center Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel and McDonnell Douglas 4-foot Trisonic Wind Tunnel. Mach number range was 0.3 to 3.0. Basic model was a 2-caliber secant ogive nose with an 8-caliber cylindrical afterbody and 21 fin configurations. Variations in the coefficients are presented for changes in fin geometry including taper ratio and leading edge sweep angle, aspect ratio, exposed semi-span, and root chord length; opening angle, fully closed to 10 deg past fully open; and body step down.

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wraparound Fins Mounted on Bodies of Revolution and Rheir Influence on the Missile Static Stability at Mach Numbers from 0 3 to 1 3

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wraparound Fins Mounted on Bodies of Revolution and Rheir Influence on the Missile Static Stability at Mach Numbers from 0 3 to 1 3 written by Calvin Wayne Dahlke and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental aerodynamic investigations were conducted for several wraparound fins and one planar fin configuration on bodies of revolution at Mach number ranging from 0.3 to 1.3 and angles of attack from -6 degrees to 6 degrees at 0 degrees at sideslip angle. Six component aerodynamic forces and moments were recorded on the complete missile configuration while simultaneously measuring the aerodynamic normal force and bending moments acting on each fin. The fin configuration parameters varied include chord length, fin thickness, leading edge configuration, tip chord geometry and body, root chord gap. The report presents the plotted coefficient data in two volumes. Volume I contains the complete missile aerodynamic data. Volume 2 contains the individual fin aerodynamic data.
