This book was released on 1978 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering fabrics for highway construction and maintenance, are increasingly being used in a variety of ways: as filters for subsurface drainage; as separation barriers to prevent the contaminatin of base courses; as subgrade restraining layers for weak subgrades; as earth reinforcement for retaining walls; as erosion control barriers; and for other uses. To facilitate greater use of these fabrics, this publication has been published. The publication contains specifications for a variety of fabric uses from six organizations, which have had significant construction experience with fabrics.
Download or read book A Guide for Best Management Practice BMP Selection in Urban Developed Areas written by Task Committee for Evaluating Best Management Practices and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide examines permanent structural techniques, or Best Management Practices (BMPs), which can be used for retrofitting the stormwater management systems in existing developed areas. The advantages and disadvantages of each technique are explained to help engineering professionals select the BMP (or series of BMPs) best suited for removing pollutants from stormwater runoff at a particular location. The design factors considered include land availability, type of pollutant to be removed, groundwater levels, soil types, BMP costs, maintenance costs, and desired pollutant removal efficiency. The BMPs evaluated are ponds, alum treatment systems, constructed wetlands, sand filters, baffle boxes, inlet devices, vegetated swales, buffer strips, and infiltration/exfiltration trenches. A BMP Selection Guide, in an easy-to-use matrix format, aids in the decision-making process for BMP selections. Five design factors and five pollutant types (total suspended solids, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, heavy metals, and floating trash) are evaluated for each BMP in the matrix. BMPs presented in this guide were chosen based upon common availability, ease of maintenance, and an established track record.

Download or read book Green Roof A Case Study written by Christian Werthmann and published by Princeton Architectural Press. This book was released on 2007-08-30 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Green roofs are the great green hope of many environmentalists, politicians, and architects interested in more efficient and environmentally aware buildings. From a design standpoint, however, there is less consensus. While some see the roof garden as a visual statement using plants, geometric lines, and sculptural elements, others believe concerns for sustainability should outweigh visual appeal. A green roof that combines aesthetics and mechanics has become the goal of many a landscape architect. In Green Roof Gardens, author Christian Werthmann explains the history, methodology, and design process of green roof garden construction, providing a rich source of inspiration and technical knowledge in the process for anybody interested in this simple solution to many of the environmental challenges we face today.
