Book FILTER Approach

Download or read book FILTER Approach written by Stephanie D. Sanders and published by Plural Publishing. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Stephanie Sanders created this curriculum after verbal attempts to teach the concept of using a 'social filter' to students with high-functioning autism. Saying a person 'has no filter' is a common expression for a socially inappropriate or abrasive person. However, the connection between a literal and figurative filter makes little sense to high-functioning ASD students. Research and experience confirm the rote memory skills of children with high-functioning ASD and this workbook capitalizes on this to provide a simple, yet memorable tool for conversation. The F.I.L.T.E.R. curriculum first teaches the literal versus figurative filter concept and then presents an acronym for connecting the concept to social skills to help students before, during, and after conversation. F - Facial clues: look for information about how someone is feeling; I - Inappropriate: avoid "red light" comments and topics; L - Listen: tune in to the person talking and tune out distractions; T - Target: are you hitting or missing the target in conversation?; E - End the conversation (and start it) at the right time; R - Repair mistakes made in conversation." --

Book Optical Filter Design and Analysis

Download or read book Optical Filter Design and Analysis written by Christi K. Madsen and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1999-06-15 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Unique, Cutting-Edge Approach to Optical Filter Design With more and more information being transmitted over fiber-optic lines, optical filtering has become crucial to the advanced functionality of today's communications networks. Helping researchers and engineers keep pace with this rapidly evolving technology, this book presents digital processing techniques for optical filter design. This higher-level approach focuses on filter characteristics and enables readers to quickly calculate the filter response as well as tackle larger and more complex filters. The authors incorporate numerous theoretical and experimental results from the literature and discuss applications to a variety of systems-including the new wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology, which is fast becoming the preferred method for system upgrade and expansion. Special features of this book include: * The theory underlying various architectures that can approximate any filter function * Filter design techniques applicable to a broad range of materials systems-from silica to fiber to microelectromechanical (MEM) systems * Design examples relevant to filters for WDM systems and planar waveguide devices * 250 figures as well as problem sets for use in graduate-level studies

Book Kalman Filter Method in the Analysis of Vibrations Due to Water Waves

Download or read book Kalman Filter Method in the Analysis of Vibrations Due to Water Waves written by Piotr Wilde and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central theme of this book is the application of the linear filtering theory to the vibration of structures in a fluid. Emphasis is placed on the mathematical models which, in the theory of systems, characterize the state of a dynamic system. The mathematical models are in the form of linear Ito stochastic differential equations. Discretization of the models, which leads to straightforward computer applications, is also discussed. The book also presents an approach to nonlinear problems based on the expansion of random functions in a series. To elucidate the proposed approach, examples on the application of Kalman filters, which refer to the vibrations of cylinders in waves, are cited. This provides a practical orientation to complement the proposed theory and contributes to a clearer and deeper understanding of the subject matter.

  • Release : 1993-11-02
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book Air Filtration written by R.C. Brown and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1993-11-02 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for clean air has probably never been greater. Many industrial employees need to avoid exposure to airborne particulates, while certain industrial processes demand clean air of exceptional quality. Medical and biological fields rely on sterile air, while filtration can improve air quality in offices, homes and all types of transport. Filters act in a variety of complex and subtle ways. Each chapter introduces its subject matter simply, before tackling the problem in greater depth. The book therefore provides an excellent basis for detailed study, but is also invaluable to anyone needing an overview of the subject.

Book Breadth and Depth of Semantic Lexicons

Download or read book Breadth and Depth of Semantic Lexicons written by E. Viegas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the books about computational (lexical) semantic lexicons deal with the depth (or content) aspect of lexicons, ignoring the breadth (or coverage) aspect. This book presents a first attempt in the community to address both issues: content and coverage of computational semantic lexicons, in a thorough manner. Moreover, it addresses issues which have not yet been tackled in implemented systems such as the application time of lexical rules. Lexical rules and lexical underspecification are also contrasted in implemented systems. The main approaches in the field of computational (lexical) semantics are represented in the present book (including Wordnet, CyC, Mikrokosmos, Generative Lexicon). This book embraces several fields (and subfields) as different as: linguistics (theoretical, computational, semantics, pragmatics), psycholinguistics, cognitive science, computer science, artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, statistics and natural language processing. The book also constitutes a very good introduction to the state of the art in computational semantic lexicons of the late 1990s.
