Book I Had a Hammer

Download or read book I Had a Hammer written by Hank Aaron and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-03-17 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Classic New York Times Bestseller The man who shattered Babe Ruth's lifetime home run record, Henry "Hammering Hank" Aaron left his indelible mark on professional baseball and the world. But the world also left its mark on him. I Had a Hammer is much more than the intimate autobiography of one of the greatest names in pro sports—it is a fascinating social history of twentieth-century America. With courage and candor, Aaron recalls his struggles and triumphs in an atmosphere of virulent racism. He relives the breathtaking moment when, in the heat of hatred and controversy, he hit his 715th home run to break Ruth's cherished record—an accomplishment for which Aaron received more than 900,000 letters, many of them vicious and racially charged. And his story continues through the remainder of his milestone-setting, barrier-smashing career as a player and, later, Atlanta Braves executive—offering an eye-opening and unforgettable portrait of an incomparable athlete, his sport, his epoch, and his world.

Book Multi Dimensional Modal Logic

Download or read book Multi Dimensional Modal Logic written by Maarten Marx and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-11-30 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modal Logic is a branch of logic with applications in many related disciplines such as computer science, philosophy, linguistics and artificial intelligence. Over the last twenty years, in all of these neighbouring fields, modal systems have been developed that we call multi-dimensional. (Our definition of multi-dimensionality in modal logic is a technical one: we call a modal formalism multi-dimensional if, in its intended semantics, the universe of a model consists of states that are tuples over some more basic set.) This book treats such multi-dimensional modal logics in a uniform way, linking their mathematical theory to the research tradition in algebraic logic. We will define and discuss a number of systems in detail, focusing on such aspects as expressiveness, definability, axiomatics, decidability and interpolation. Although the book will be mathematical in spirit, we take care to give motivations from the disciplines mentioned earlier on.

Book excerpt: This is the fourth volume in Colin Clay's autobiographical series which tells of the seven years the Clay family enjoyed living in the town of Capreol, a railway community just a short distance from Sudbury, Ontario. Colin had served pastorally and academically in Sudbury when the family arrived from England, but when there came a vacancy at St Alban's parish in Capreol the Archbishop of Algoma appointed Colin as its rector with Colin continuing at Laurentian University but soon adding a position as the Civilian Officiating Clergyman at the Canadian Forces Station at Falconbridge. Capreol provided many opportunties for Colin, Barbara and their four children and Colin was happy with his varied responsibilities. The Clay family continued to enjoy exciting holiday travels across North America along with renewed visits with families in the United Kingdom. Colin was active with Army Cadets as was Barbara with Girl Guides. When the family left for Saskatoon in 1977 Philip and Gill had begun studies at university and college and Alan and Susan were ready for high school. The next volume entitled "It's A Dry Cold" will continue with the Clay's adventures on the Canadian prairies.
