To considerable change during the last two years. The removal into the new building, the loss of some teachers by resignation, the change of policy incident to a change of supervisors, and the over-crowded condition of most rooms, have not made the distinctive work of the school easier. More and more it is found difficult, with a relatively small school and a very large practice teachers' class, to use the same school to advantage for both observation and practice teaching. Had we half as many intending teachers, the enrollment in the training school would be reasonably large. But with two hundred or more members of the senior class there are not rooms of children enough to furnish the needed opportunities for practice. It is earnestly recommended that some arrangement be made whereby these privileges may be increased to intending teachers in this institution. While the attendance at this school has increased about seventy-five per cent during these thirteen years, we know that there are many blind children in the State who ought to be receiving the benefits of this school whose pa rents have not even learned of its existence, certainly have not become sufficiently informed in regard to its purposes and work to send their chil dren here. Indeed the data in regard to the number, names and residences of such children are so incomplete that the officers of the school find it im possible to reach them directly with such information as would arouse their interest. You and the members of the State Legislature will realize the truth of this statement when we tell you that of about forty new pupils who have been received into the school during the two years just ended the names of only two appeared in the report made by the Secretary Of State to the superintendent of the school as required by Sec. 9, Act 123 of the compiled laws of 1893: A copy in detail of so much of the statistical information received by him by virtue of any law of this State as relates to the blind. Manifestly this is not the fault of the State Department, but it Shows that the reports from about the State are exceedingly meager and insufficient.
