Book excerpt: The book “Advances in Information and Communication Networks - Proceedings of the 2022 Future of Information and Communication Conference (FICC)” aims in presenting the latest research advances, sharing expert knowledge and exchanging ideas with the common goal of shaping the future of Information and Communication. The conference attracted 402 submissions, of which, 131 submissions (including six poster papers) have been selected through a double-blind review process by an international panel of expert referees. This book discusses on aspects of Communication, Data Science, Ambient Intelligence, Networking, Computing, Security and Internet of Things, from classical to intelligent scope. The intention is to help academic pioneering researchers, scientists, industrial engineers, and students become familiar with and stay abreast of the ever-changing technology surrounding their industry. We hope that readers find the volume interesting and valuable; it gathers chapters addressing state-of-the-art intelligent methods and techniques for solving real world problems along with a vision of the future research.
Download or read book The Giant Liver Fluke Fascioloides magna Past Present and Future Research written by Ivica Králová-Hromadová and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-22 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents complex data on Fascioloides magna from all aspects of its research (general information, distribution, spectrum of hosts) and summarizes the latest information on molecular structure of informative genes which were recently applied in resolving taxonomy and biogeography of this veterinary important parasite. The giant liver fluke, Fascioloides magna, is important liver parasite of free-living and domestic ruminants. Due to its biology, distribution, medical impact, and invasive character, this liver fluke attracts attention of wide spectrum of specialists – veterinary doctors, hunters and farmers, as well as scientists. The parasite utilizes wide range of free living and domestic ruminants as definitive hosts, with various pathological impacts ranging from moderate infections towards lethal effects. Fascioloides magna is of North American origin where it occurs in five enzootic regions. It was introduced to Europe along with its deer hosts in 19th century and it has established three permanent natural foci. The giant liver fluke represents an outstanding model for studying the origin, spatial distribution, migratory routs, and invasion processes of introduced species.

Book excerpt: Presents copy for use as a reference brochure and a giveaway sheet to be distributed to guidance counselors to help them direct young people into the growing field of Information Science. Sets forth that Information Science is concerned with the properties, behavior, and flow of information. Describes how it is used, both by individuals and in large systems. Discusses the opportunities in Information Science and outlines three relatively different career areas: (1) Special Librarianship; (2) Literature Analysis; and (3) Information System Design. Details an educational program appropriate for participation in these career areas. Concludes that Information Science is a new but rapidly growing field pushing the frontiers of human knowledge and, thus, contributing to human well-being and progress. (Author).

Download or read book My Brother Moochie written by Issac J. Bailey and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare first-person account that combines a journalist’s skilled reporting with the raw emotion of a younger brother’s heartfelt testimony of what his family endured after his eldest brother killed a man and was sentenced to life in prison. At the age of nine, Issac J. Bailey saw his hero, his eldest brother, taken away in handcuffs, not to return from prison for thirty-two years. Bailey tells the story of their relationship and of his experience living in a family suffering from guilt and shame. Drawing on sociological research as well as his expertise as a journalist, he seeks to answer the crucial question of why Moochie and many other young black men—including half of the ten boys in his own family—end up in the criminal justice system. What role do poverty, race, and faith play? What effect does living in the South, in the Bible Belt, have? And why is their experience understood as an acceptable trope for black men, while white people who commit crimes are never seen in this generalized way? My Brother Moochie provides a wide-ranging yet intensely intimate view of crime and incarceration in the United States, and the devastating effects on the incarcerated, their loved ones, their victims, and society as a whole. It also offers hope for families caught in the incarceration trap: though the Bailey family’s lows have included prison and bearing the responsibility for multiple deaths, their highs have included Harvard University, the White House, and a renewed sense of pride and understanding that presents a path forward.

Download or read book Seasonal Snowpacks written by Trevor D. Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seasonal Snowpacks examines the processes which control the chemistry of seasonal snowcover and provides detailed information on the biogeographical distribution of snow (e.g. urban, alpine snowpacks), snow composition (e.g. micropollutants, stable isotopes) or the physical and biological processes which influence the chemical changes in snow (e.g. wind, microbiological activity). The fluxes of chemicals at the snow-atmosphere and snow-soil interfaces are examined, as are processes which modify composition within the snowcover. It is the first book in which the reader will find a comprehensive overview of the theoretical concepts, latest measurement techniques, process-oriented research methods, and models of studies in snow chemistry. The linkages between snow chemistry, atmospheric chemistry and hydrology will make this book of use to both research workers and students in the physical and biological sciences and to natural resource management personnel.
