Book Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics

Download or read book Nonequilibrium Statistical Mechanics written by Byung Chan Eu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, nonequilibrium statistical mechanics is developed by means of ensemble methods on the basis of the Boltzmann equation, the generic Boltzmann equations for classical and quantum dilute gases, and a generalised Boltzmann equation for dense simple fluids. The theories are developed in forms parallel with the equilibrium Gibbs ensemble theory in a way fully consistent with the laws of thermodynamics. The generalised hydrodynamics equations are the integral part of the theory and describe the evolution of macroscopic processes in accordance with the laws of thermodynamics of systems far removed from equilibrium. Audience: This book will be of interest to researchers in the fields of statistical mechanics, condensed matter physics, gas dynamics, fluid dynamics, rheology, irreversible thermodynamics and nonequilibrium phenomena.

Book A Non equilibrium Statistical Mechanics

Download or read book A Non equilibrium Statistical Mechanics written by Tian-Quan Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents the construction of an asymptotic technique for solving the Liouville equation, which is an analogue of the Enskog-Chapman technique for the Boltzmann equation. Because the assumption of molecular chaos has not been introduced, the macroscopic variables defined by the arithmetic means of the corresponding microscopic variables are random in general. Therefore, it is convenient for describing the turbulence phenomena. The asymptotic technique for the Liouville equation reveals a term showing the interaction between the temperature and the velocity of the fluid flows, which will be lost under the assumption of molecular chaos.

Book Bounded Noises in Physics Biology and Engineering

Download or read book Bounded Noises in Physics Biology and Engineering written by Alberto d'Onofrio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-12 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the parameters in dynamical systems of biological interest are inherently positive and bounded, bounded noises are a natural way to model the realistic stochastic fluctuations of a biological system that are caused by its interaction with the external world. Bounded Noises in Physics, Biology, and Engineering is the first contributed volume devoted to the modeling of bounded noises in theoretical and applied statistical mechanics, quantitative biology, and mathematical physics. It gives an overview of the current state-of-the-art and is intended to stimulate further research. The volume is organized in four parts. The first part presents the main kinds of bounded noises and their applications in theoretical physics. The theory of bounded stochastic processes is intimately linked to its applications to mathematical and statistical physics, and it would be difficult and unnatural to separate the theory from its physical applications. The second is devoted to framing bounded noises in the theory of random dynamical systems and random bifurcations, while the third is devoted to applications of bounded stochastic processes in biology, one of the major areas of potential applications of this subject. The final part concerns the application of bounded stochastic processes in mechanical and structural engineering, the area where the renewed interest for non-Gaussian bounded noises started. Pure mathematicians working on stochastic calculus will find here a rich source of problems that are challenging from the point of view of contemporary nonlinear analysis. Bounded Noises in Physics, Biology, and Engineering is intended for scientists working on stochastic processes with an interest in both fundamental issues and applications. It will appeal to a broad range of applied mathematicians, mathematical biologists, physicists, engineers, and researchers in other fields interested in complexity theory. It is accessible to anyone with a working knowledge of stochastic modeling, from advanced undergraduates to senior researchers.

Book Applications of Nonlinear Dynamics

Download or read book Applications of Nonlinear Dynamics written by Visarath In and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-11 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ?eld of applied nonlinear dynamics has attracted scientists and engineers across many different disciplines to develop innovative ideas and methods to study c- plex behavior exhibited by relatively simple systems. Examples include: population dynamics, ?uidization processes, applied optics, stochastic resonance, ?ocking and ?ightformations, lasers, andmechanicalandelectricaloscillators. Acommontheme among these and many other examples is the underlying universal laws of nonl- ear science that govern the behavior, in space and time, of a given system. These laws are universal in the sense that they transcend the model-speci?c features of a system and so they can be readily applied to explain and predict the behavior of a wide ranging phenomena, natural and arti?cial ones. Thus the emphasis in the past decades has been in explaining nonlinear phenomena with signi?cantly less att- tion paid to exploiting the rich behavior of nonlinear systems to design and fabricate new devices that can operate more ef?ciently. Recently, there has been a series of meetings on topics such as Experimental Chaos, Neural Coding, and Stochastic Resonance, which have brought together many researchers in the ?eld of nonlinear dynamics to discuss, mainly, theoretical ideas that may have the potential for further implementation. In contrast, the goal of the 2007 ICAND (International Conference on Applied Nonlinear Dynamics) was focused more sharply on the implementation of theoretical ideas into actual - vices and systems.
