Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ji Hyang Padma believes that we are hungry for a direct experience of the sacred in this culture. We try to fill the void with technology, and its 'quick fix' of images and information. This leaves us hungry for true connectivity. We don’t need more information. We need more appreciation. Gratitude opens the heart, and gives our life meaning; it becomes a form of spiritual experience that gives us strength. Field of Blessings explores how meaning-making can be approached by deep examination of the stories of our lives, which bridge the gap between the inner world and the outer world, giving shape to our experience. How can these narratives be spoken, written, or embodied? Ritual is the story brought-to-life, and a powerful vehicle for spiritual transformation, for reconnecting people with an embodied wholeness. Ji Hyang Padma shows that Chod, Medicine Buddha practices, and other Tibetan rituals are used by healers to evoke sacred energies, radical empathy, and to contact deep archetypal realms of the psyche.

Download or read book Dancing on Fields of Sorrow and Blessing written by P. Mullins Elson and published by Redemption Press. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible to right the wrongs of the past? It's a question Wallace Hayes asked himself many times, and the answer is always the same. Yessuh. You see, Wallace knows about the power within all of us because he has seen it in action. Wallace grew up at Summerton Place, the plantation where his grandparents were once slaves and his father was born the illegitimate child of a wealthy landowner. Now the owner of what's left of the once grand plantation, Wallace is determined to bring good from the tragic and painful events of the past. Slavery, rape, abuse, and war happened along the long line of ancient oaks. Two children born, Moses and Hope-one into slavery and one smuggled out, never to be seen again. But God had hold of every event, as He always promised He would. Repentance, forgiveness, and redemption follow, but some things cannot be undone. In an effort to teach others the life-giving power of forgiveness and faith that his father taught him, Wallace decides to share his family's darkest secrets and the sweetest truths of his heritage with three special people. In fact, he has a wish for all of them as they come to terms with their own personal pasts, and Wallace's quest to right the wrongs come full circle. Set in Charleston, South Carolina, Dancing on Fields of Sorrow and Blessing spans three generations of the Summerton-Hayes family, beginning in 1860 on the cusp of the Civil War and ending in the greatest lesson of all-the power not only to change our personal stories but to change the world.

Book Pure Lands in Asian Texts and Contexts

Download or read book Pure Lands in Asian Texts and Contexts written by Georgios T. Halkias and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2019-03-31 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This diverse anthology of original Buddhist texts in translation provides a historical and conceptual framework that will transform contemporary scholarship on Pure Land Buddhism and instigate its recognition as an essential field of Buddhist studies. Traditional and contemporary primary sources carefully selected from Buddhist cultures across historical, geopolitical, and literary boundaries are organized by genre rather than chronologically, geographically, or by religious lineage—a novel juxtaposition that reveals their wider importance in fresh contexts. Together these fundamental texts from different Asian traditions, expertly translated by eminent and up-and-coming scholars, illustrate that the Buddhism of pure lands is not just an East Asian cult or a marginal type of Buddhism, but a pan-Asian and deeply entrenched religious phenomenon. The volume is organized into six parts: Ritual Practices, Contemplative Visualizations, Doctrinal Expositions, Life Writing and Poetry, Ethical and Aesthetic Explications, and Worlds beyond Sukhāvatī. Each part is introduced and summarized, and each translated piece is prefaced by its translator to supply historical and sectarian context as well as insight into the significance of the work. Common and less-common issues of practice, doctrine, and intra-religious transfer are explored, and deeper understandings of the meaning of “pure lands” are gained through the study of the celestial, cosmological, internal, and earthly pure lands associated with various buddhas, bodhisattvas, and devotional figures. The introduction by the volume editors ties the diverse themes of the book together and provides a historical background to Pure Land Buddhist studies. Scholars of Buddhism and Asian religion, including graduate and post-graduate students, as well as Buddhist practitioners, will appreciate the range of translated materials and accompanied discussions made accessible in one essential collection, the first of its kind to center on the formerly-neglected topic of Buddhist pure lands.

Book Receiving the 12 Blessings of Israel

Download or read book Receiving the 12 Blessings of Israel written by Paul Thangiah and published by Chosen Books. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unique, Fascinating Look at How God's Promises to Israel Apply to Today We read throughout the Bible about God blessing his people, but most of us don't realize that these blessings are still meant for today--and for us. In this accessible study, pastor and international leader Paul Thangiah connects ancient biblical texts to modern-day life. Exploring Jacob's final blessings over his twelve sons in Genesis and Moses' parting blessings to the twelve tribes in Deuteronomy, Thangiah sheds light on the history of those on whom these blessings were bestowed. With keen insight, he examines the background of each of Jacob's sons, the significance of each name and personal situation, and what the Bible says about his descendants. Then, he shows how each of the twelve tribes saw the fulfillment of both Jacob's and Moses' prophetic blessings. Yet these blessings didn't cease at the end of the Old Testament, says Thangiah, revealing how they were powerfully and ultimately fulfilled in Jesus. You will be encouraged and inspired to discover how God's promises to his people extend beyond Israel to include all who've been grafted in through Christ--and how you can still enjoy these prophetic blessings today.

Book Good Morning Message

Download or read book Good Morning Message written by Peggy Edwards and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This daily devotional book has been a God-led inspiration from its very start-up; from its original Bible verse and note of encouragement to some coworkers and family members to people around the world via my email network. Our God is so awesome! I've had people return emails to me or speak to me and ask, "How did you know that I needed that today?" or "How did you know I was going through this?" That is when I thankfully remind them that God inspired each and every one of these devotionals. I am just being faithful and following His directions. Now I'm led to put them into a year of daily devotions book to reach others. Occasionally, my emailed devotionals have colored photographs that I take as God inspired message for the day. Unfortunately, I couldn't include those in this book. I did include a photo in grayscale at the beginning of each month; the cover photo is a God-blessed look at an Alaskan sunset. I am so thankful that God is working in my life. I want to encourage each of you to grasp hold of whatever gift He has blessed you with and step out in trust and faith to go forth and to share it with others. When you feel down, just start counting each of the blessings God has touched you with in your life; and you will feel His Presence and comfort to encourage you. We are never alone; He is just a prayer away; nothing is impossible for our God. He is not done with us yet. He is asking us to be obedient in our service to Him, and He will help us grow in our faith. Trust in Him, and you will be astounded at what He has in store for you.

Book Blessings in India Bundle Faith of Ashish Hope of Shridula Love of Divena eBook ePub

Download or read book Blessings in India Bundle Faith of Ashish Hope of Shridula Love of Divena eBook ePub written by Kay Marshall Strom and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 1139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bundle contains The Faith of Ashish, The Hope of Shridula, and The Love of Divena. The Faith of Ashish Virat and Latha named their son Ashish, for he is the light and glory of their world. Yet a simple drink of water from the wrong cup changes them forever. Virat, Latha, and Ashish are Untouchables in 1905 India, members of a caste who must never contaminate the world of the other, higher, castes. When Ashish is in desperate need of a doctor, Virat risks everything to save his son and ventures into the dangerous realm of the high caste. There, the strength of a father’s love, the power of a young British nurse, and the faith of a child change the lives around them. The Hope of Shridula India: 1946. For forty-eight years, Ashish and his family toiled as slaves in the fields of the high-caste Lal family, and all because of one small debt. At fifty-four, Ashish was old and worn out. Every day was a struggle to survive for his family including his only daughter. His wife had named the girl Shridula (Blessings). “Perhaps the name will bring you more fortune than it brought me,” Ashish told his daughter. His words proved to be prophetic in ways he could never have imagined. And when the flames of revolt brought independence to India, they seared change into the family of Ashish. The Love of Divena India 1990. Shridula, old and stooped at fifty-nine, makes her painful way to pay homage to the elephant god Ganesh, lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles. “Why are we Hindus instead of Christians?” her seventeen-year-old granddaughter Divena asked. “Because we are Indian,” said Shridula. So begins a spiritual journey for Divena as she struggles against an entire culture to proclaim a faith close to her heart while rocking the world of two families.
