This book is a useful “state-of-the-art” reference for scientists and engineers involved in solving environmental problems of railways.

Book Quantum Field Theory

  • Author : Eduardo Fradkin
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2021-03-23
  • ISBN : 0691189552
  • Pages : 760 pages

Download or read book Quantum Field Theory written by Eduardo Fradkin and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only graduate-level textbook on quantum field theory that fully integrates perspectives from high-energy, condensed-matter, and statistical physics Quantum field theory was originally developed to describe quantum electrodynamics and other fundamental problems in high-energy physics, but today has become an invaluable conceptual and mathematical framework for addressing problems across physics, including in condensed-matter and statistical physics. With this expansion of applications has come a new and deeper understanding of quantum field theory—yet this perspective is still rarely reflected in teaching and textbooks on the subject. Developed from a year-long graduate course Eduardo Fradkin has taught for years to students of high-energy, condensed-matter, and statistical physics, this comprehensive textbook provides a fully "multicultural" approach to quantum field theory, covering the full breadth of its applications in one volume. Brings together perspectives from high-energy, condensed-matter, and statistical physics in both the main text and exercises Takes students from basic techniques to the frontiers of physics Pays special attention to the relation between measurements and propagators and the computation of cross sections and response functions Focuses on renormalization and the renormalization group, with an emphasis on fixed points, scale invariance, and their role in quantum field theory and phase transitions Other topics include non-perturbative phenomena, anomalies, and conformal invariance Features numerous examples and extensive problem sets Also serves as an invaluable resource for researchers

Book Multidimensional Similarity Structure Analysis

Download or read book Multidimensional Similarity Structure Analysis written by I. Borg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multidimensional Similarity Structure Analysis comprises a class of models that represent similarity among entities (for example, variables, items, objects, persons, etc.) in multidimensional space to permit one to grasp more easily the interrelations and patterns present in the data. The book is oriented to both researchers who have little or no previous exposure to data scaling and have no more than a high school background in mathematics and to investigators who would like to extend their analyses in the direction of hypothesis and theory testing or to more intimately understand these analytic procedures. The book is repleted with examples and illustrations of the various techniques drawn largely, but not restrictively, from the social sciences, with a heavy emphasis on the concrete, geometric or spatial aspect of the data representations.

Book Resistance and Colonialism

Download or read book Resistance and Colonialism written by Nuno Domingos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers a critical re-examination of colonial and anti-colonial resistance imageries and practices in imperial history. It offers a fresh critique of both pejorative and celebratory readings of ‘insurgent peoples’, and it seeks to revitalize the study of ‘resistance’ as an analytical field in the comparative history of Western colonialisms. It explores how to read and (de)code these issues in archival documents – and how to conjugate documental approaches with oral history, indigenous memories, and international histories of empire. The topics explored include runaway slaves and slave rebellions, mutiny and banditry, memories and practices of guerrilla and liberation, diplomatic negotiations and cross-border confrontations, theft, collaboration, and even the subversive effects of nature in colonial projects of labor exploitation.

Book Building Air Bases in the Negev the U S Army Corps of Engineers in Israel 1979 1982

Download or read book Building Air Bases in the Negev the U S Army Corps of Engineers in Israel 1979 1982 written by Center of Center of Military History United States Army and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building Air Bases in the Negev is a remarkable story of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' role supporting national diplomatic initiatives overseas while managing a major construction project in Israel. Frank N. Schubert has written a superbly organized account, tracing from the spring of 1979 to the summer of 1982 the development and completion of two ultramodern air bases at a cost that only exceeded original estimates by less than 3 percent. As Schubert suggests, the air base program helped bring peace between two long-term antagonists-Israel and Egypt. Schubert's work serves as an important case study for analyzing not only engineering project management and construction practices but also demanding sociopolitical, cultural, and business conditions in sovereign foreign lands.

Download or read book Realm of the Saint written by Vincent J. Cornell and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-06-28 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In premodern Moroccan Sufism, sainthood involved not only a closeness to the Divine presence (walaya) but also the exercise of worldly authority (wilaya). The Moroccan Jazuliyya Sufi order used the doctrine that the saint was a "substitute of the prophets" and personification of a universal "Muhammadan Reality" to justify nearly one hundred years of Sufi involvement in Moroccan political life, which led to the creation of the sharifian state. This book presents a systematic history of Moroccan Sufism through the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries C.E. and a comprehensive study of Moroccan Sufi doctrine, focusing on the concept of sainthood. Vincent J. Cornell engages in a sociohistorical analysis of Sufi institutions, a critical examination of hagiography as a source for history, a study of the Sufi model of sainthood in relation to social and political life, and a sociological analysis of more than three hundred biographies of saints. He concludes by identifying eight indigenous ideal types of saint that are linked to specific forms of authority. Taken together, they define sainthood as a socioreligious institution in Morocco.
