Book Field Manual Fm 3 81 Maneuver Enhancement Brigade April 2014

This book was released on 2014-08-02 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual, Field Manual FM 3-81 Maneuver Enhancement Brigade April 2014, provides the maneuver enhancement brigade (MEB) doctrine. The manual is linked to joint and Army doctrine to ensure that it is useful to joint and Army commanders and staffs. To comprehend the doctrine contained in this manual, readers must first understand the nature of unified land operations as described in ADP 3-0 and ADRP 3-0. In addition, readers must fully understand the fundamentals of the operations process that is contained in ADP 5-0 and ADRP 5-0, the principles of mission command that are described in ADP 6-0 and ADRP 6-0, the stability tasks that are discussed in ADP 3-07 and ADRP 3-07, the execution of defense support of civil authorities (DSCA) that is discussed in ADP 3-28 and ADRP 3-28, the tactics that are contained ADRP 3-90, and the protection tasks that are discussed in ADP 3-37 and ADRP 3-37. The principal audience for FM 3-81 is commanders and staff elements at all echelons and MEB units that are primarily tasked with conducting support area operations and maneuver support operations. Trainers and educators throughout the Army will also use this manual. The other intended audience for this manual is leaders and staff sections within units that will employ a MEB or may operate under the mission command of the MEB. This manual should also be used to guide joint, interagency, and multinational higher headquarters commanders and staff on MEB employment. This FM provides doctrine for the tactical MEB employment and operations. It provides the MEB with a unity of effort and a common philosophy, language, and purpose. As one of the multifunctional support brigades of the Army, the MEB is designed to support division operations (also echelons above division [EAD] operations within Army, joint, and multinational structures) and to respond to state or federal authorities as a part of DSCA. The MEB is a mission command headquarters with a robust multifunctional brigade staff that is optimized to conduct support area operations and maneuver support operations. This manual discusses how MEBs enable commanders to achieve their objectives in support of unified land operations through the unique capabilities of the MEB to conduct support area operations and maneuver support operations within the joint security area and Army division and corps support areas. A MEB is a combined arms organization that is task-organized based on mission requirements. The MEB is not a maneuver brigade, although it can be assigned an area of operations (AO) and control terrain. MEBs provide capabilities to enhance the freedom of mobility for operational and tactical commanders. The manual also addresses the broad capability of the MEB to support the similar tasks of stability and DSCA. FM 3-81 describes how MEB commanders, staffs, and subordinate leaders plan, prepare, execute, and assess MEB operations in support of Army forces that are conducting unified land operations within the framework of joint operations. It removes the MEB primary task of conducting consequence management and moves discussion under MEB capabilities to support stability and DSCA tasks. It increases the emphasis on the MEB to conduct support area operations while supporting decisive action-offensive, defensive, stability, or DSCA tasks. The MEB doctrine that is provided in this manual, together with related chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN); engineer; and military police doctrine will support the actions and decisions of commanders at all levels. This manual is not meant to be a substitute for thought and initiative among MEB leaders and Soldiers. No matter how robust the doctrine or how advanced the MEB capabilities and systems, it is the MEB units and Soldiers who must understand the operational environment, recognize shortfalls, and use their professional judgment to adapt to the situation on the ground.

Book Field Manual FM 3 90 Tactics July 2001

Download or read book Field Manual FM 3 90 Tactics July 2001 written by United States Government Us Army and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2012-04-15 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctrine provides a military organization with a common philosophy, a language, a purpose, and unity of effort. Tactics is the art and science of employing all available means to win battles and engagements. Specifically, it comprises the actions taken by a commander to arrange units and activities in relation to each other and the enemy. FM 3-90 introduces the basic concepts and control measures associated with the art of tactics. It cannot be read in isolation. To understand FM 3-90, the reader must understand the operational art, principles of war, and links between the operational and tactical levels of war described in FM 3-0, Operations. He should understand how the activities described in FM 3-07, Stability Operations and Support Operations, carry over and affect offensive and defensive operations and vice versa. He should understand the operations (plan, prepare, execute, and assess) process described in FM 6-0, Command and Control, and how that process relates to the military decision making process and troop-leading procedures described in FM 5-0, Army Planning and Orders Production. FM 3-90 also refers to joint publications (JPs). Reviewing referenced JPs will also aid in understanding FM 3-90. FM 3-90 focuses on the tactics used to employ available means to win in combat. Those tactics require judgment in application. The ability to seize and secure terrain, with its populations and productive capacity, distinguishes land forces conducting decisive offensive and defensive operations. FM 3-90 provides a common discussion of how commanders from the battalion task force level through the corps echelon conduct tactical offensive and defensive operations and their supporting tactical enabling operations. It is not prescriptive, but authoritative. Tactical fundamentals do not change with the fielding of each new piece of equipment. However, the integration of new equipment and organizations usually requires changes in related techniques and procedures. FM 3-90 provides guidance in the form of combat-tested concepts and ideas modified to exploit emerging Army and joint capabilities.

Book excerpt: Volume 5, Deep Maneuver: Historical Case Studies of Maneuver in Large-Scale Combat Operations, presents eleven case studies from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom focusing on deep maneuver in terms of time, space and purpose. Deep operations require boldness and audacity, and yet carry an element of risk of overextension - especially in light of the independent factors of geography and weather that are ever-present. As a result, the case studies address not only successes, but also failure and shortfalls that result when conducting deep operations. The final two chapters address these considerations for future Deep Maneuver.

Book The U S Army Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual

Download or read book The U S Army Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual written by David H. Petraeus and published by Silver Rock Publishing. This book was released on 2015-12-31 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This field manual establishes doctrine for military operations in a counterinsurgency (COIN) environment. It is based on lessons learned from previous counterinsurgencies and contemporary operations. It is also based on existing interim doctrine and doctrine recently developed. Counterinsurgency operations generally have been neglected in broader American military doctrine and national security policies since the end of the Vietnam War over 40 years ago. This manual is designed to reverse that trend. It is also designed to merge traditional approaches to COIN with the realities of a new international arena shaped by technological advances, globalization, and the spread of extremist ideologies--some of them claiming the authority of a religious faith. This is a comprehensive manual that details every aspect of a successful COIN operation from intelligence to leadership to diplomacy. It also includes several useful appendices that provide important supplementary material.

This book was released on 2018-10-12 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2, Bringing Order to Chaos: Combined Arms Maneuver in Large Scale Combat Operations, opens a dialogue with the Army. Are we ready for the significantly increased casualties inherent to intensive combat between large formations, the constant paralyzing stress of continual contact with a peer enemy, and the difficult nature of command and control while attempting division and corps combined arms maneuver to destroy that enemy? The chapters in this volume answer these questions for combat operations while spanning military history from 1917 through 2003. These accounts tell the challenges of intense combat, the drain of heavy casualties, the difficulty of commanding and controlling huge formations in contact, the effective use of direct and indirect fires, the need for high quality leadership, thoughtful application of sound doctrine, and logistical sustainment up to the task. No large scale combat engagement, battle, or campaign of the last one hundred years has been successful without being better than the enemy in these critical capabilities. What can we learn from the past to help us make the transition to ready to fight tonight?

Book Logistics Maneuver Made Easy

Download or read book Logistics Maneuver Made Easy written by James H. Henderson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-05-12 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines some logistical maneuvers and their doctrinal relationship to the operation, and provides some new ideas. The lessons are formatted in a fashion that offers the reader the doctrinal concept that the operation or function is based on, and then presents new theories on how to better execute the logistical function or capability as it relates to tactical operations. Even though combat maneuver may be more exciting to discuss, logistical maneuver is just as effective in its results to maintain combat power. And isnt that the real key to successfully sustaining any decisive action operationsto maintain combat power across the battlefield? And the only way to achieve this effect is to understand the different ways to execute logistical maneuver to support the mission. As I have pointed out on more than one occasion, you cannot have one without the other.
