Book A Few Letters and Speeches of the Late Civil War Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Few Letters and Speeches of the Late Civil War Classic Reprint written by August Belmont and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Few Letters and Speeches of the Late Civil War This pamphlet, which is privately printed, contains a few letters, chosen from among hundreds, and a few speeches, selected out of many, that were written or uttered by their author during the time that he has had the honor to be intrusted with an official position in the Democratic party - namely, the Chairmanship of its National Committee. It was a circumstance incident to any faithful discharge of that responsible duty, during so exciting and momentous an era in the history of the United States as that through which they have but lately passed or are passing, that his opinions and conduct should be often misrepresented and sometimes misunderstood. The following pages will suffice to correct such errors, should they ever approach a lodgment in the minds of those with whom alone such errors now can be of any importance to him, - his children, and his personal or political friends; and will disclose to such of these as care to concern themselves about the matter, the ends which, as a citizen and as a member of a noble and time-honored party he has had in view, as well as something of the means by which, in his humble sphere and imperfect way, he has striven to attain them. Book Speeches of Note

Download or read book Speeches of Note written by Shaun Usher and published by Ten Speed Press. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the New York Times bestseller Letters of Note comes a collection of 75 of history's most interesting, profound, and sometimes unknown speeches from a range of scintillating personalities such as Frederick Douglass, Justin Trudeau, Albert Einstein, Meghan Markle, Barbara Jordan, and Ursula K. Le Guin. This thoughtfully curated and richly illustrated collection celebrates oratory old and new, highlighting speeches we know and admire, while also shining a light on profound drafts that were never delivered or have until now been forgotten. From George Bernard Shaw's warm and rousing toast to Albert Einstein in 1930 and the commencement address affectionately given to graduates at Long Island University by Kermit the Frog, to the chilling public announcement (that was thankfully never made) by President Richard Nixon should Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin become stranded on the moon, Speeches of Note honors the words and ideas of some of history’s most provocative and inspiring personages.

Download or read book Speeches Letters of Abraham Lincoln 1832 1865 written by Abraham Lincoln and published by . This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most essential writings of America's heroic Civil War president. As impressive as his presidency was, one of his most lasting legacies was his writing. In addition to masterful writing for everything from orders to his generals and condolences to the aggrieved Mrs. Bixby, his Second Inaugural Address and Gettysburg Address are considered masterpieces that rate among the greatest writings in American history. Perhaps Lincoln's most impressive feat is that he was able to convey so much with so few words; after famous orator Edward Everett spoke for hours at Gettysburg, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address only took a few minutes. In the generation after the Civil War, Lincoln became an American deity and one of the most written about men in history. Understandably, all of his writings and papers were intently scoured and collected, and they've been preserved in seven volumes of Papers and Writings.

This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) is one of the most famous Americans in history and one of the country's most revered presidents. Schoolchildren can recite the life story of Lincoln, the "Westerner" who educated himself and became a self made man, rising from lawyer to leader of the new Republican Party before becoming the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln successfully navigated the Union through the Civil War but didn't live to witness his own accomplishment, becoming the first president assassinated when he was killed at Ford's Theater by John Wilkes Booth.
