Book Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel

Download or read book Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel written by Randall M. German and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1998-03-31 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide to current practices Powder metallurgy processes increasingly dominate the production of iron and steel components for a variety of machines, appliances, automobiles, and tools. These processes yield high-quality precision components, recycle scrap metals into useful powders, and consume less energy than traditional manufacturing methods. Despite the tremendous growth in this area, however, until now there has been no guide on practical issues in the field. Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel fills the need for a fundamental, nonmathematical treatment of this technology. Focusing on the most useful applications and the advantages of different production techniques, this systematic, self-contained volume provides serious help in tackling production problems on the factory floor. It covers the gamut of practical topics, from injection molding and compaction processes to sintering, full-density processes, heat treatments, finishing operations, and the mechanical properties of many products, including die-compacted steels. Written by a leading authority and designer of educational programs for the industry, Powder Metallurgy of Iron and Steel: Emphasizes current practices and real engineering materials in everyday manufacturing processes Keeps the mathematics simple, boxing the calculations outside the main body of text Includes research articles and trade information from a variety of sources Features numerous pictures and flow diagrams Includes an appendix with an extensive list of definitions This important tutorial for an expanding work force is accessible to scientists and engineers alike, as well as technicians, production supervisors, designers, consultants, and marketing personnel. It is also an excellent textbook for undergraduate and industrial courses.

Book EMC 91 Non Ferrous Metallurgy Present and Future

Download or read book EMC 91 Non Ferrous Metallurgy Present and Future written by Jean Vereecken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers that will be presented at 'EMC '91 '-the European Metals Conference-to be held in Brussels, Belgium, from 15 to 20 September 1991, and organized by Benelux Metallurgie, GDMB (Gesellschaft Deutscher Metallhutten und Bergleute) and IMM (the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy). 'EMC '91' is the first of an intended major series organized at the European level with the aim of bringing together all those who are involved with the extraction and processing of non-ferrous metals-European metallurgists and their international colleagues-to provide them with the opportunity to exchange views on the state and evolution of their industry. The programme covers all the different aspects of the metallurgy of non-ferrous metals from mining to fabricated products. Particular attention is being paid to the European non -ferrous industry with respect to changes in demand, the technology used, pressures on the environment and the competitive position of manufacturers. The contributions of the plenary lecturers (copies of which will appear in the IMM journal Minerals Industry International in 1991-92) and the many authors are gratefully acknowledged. Thanks are also due to the referees of the papers, the sponsors, the companies that have allowed registrants to visit their operations, the chairmen of the technical sessions and the staffs of the organizing bodies for their efficient administrative work. Book Ferrous Powder Metallurgy

Download or read book Ferrous Powder Metallurgy written by Andrej Šalak and published by Cambridge International Science Publishing. This book was released on 1995 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the position of ferrous powder metallurgy, the author deals with the theoretical fundamentals and technical and technological aspects of the current state of knowledge in ferrous powder metallurgy so that special attention may be given to all factors influencing parts and materials with the required properties, form and dimensions, stressing their higher economic efficiency. The book also shows the extensive possibilities for further development of ferrous powder metallurgy and should therefore contribute to increasing the level of general and detailed knowledge of experts working in this area and should help in transition from fabrication of parts by conventional methods with all typical economic and ecological shortcomings to fabrication by powder metallurgy methods.

Book Introduction to Ferrous Metallurgy

Download or read book Introduction to Ferrous Metallurgy written by Ernest J. Teichert and published by Maurois Press. This book was released on 2008-11-04 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral Industries Series. Volume I: INTRODUCTION TO FERROUS METALLURGY. Originally published in 1937. FOREWORD: Every person is imbued with a desire to live comfortably., To accomplish this desire, some are willing to work and some . are content to let Nature take its course. For the former, there lies ahead a path of opportunity for advancement and, through this advancement, the attainment of those things most desk-fid in every life. The United States with its vast mineral industries offers a wide field for study. The mining of iron ore and fuels, and the process ing of iron and steel are two major industries of the nation. The results of research and the exacting demands of the purchas ing public necessitate constant change and improvement in iron founding and steel mill practice. This change necessitates a better informed operating force, one that embraces every oppor tunity to increase its efficiency and knowledge to meet the chang ing conditions in industry. The best possible method of improve ment is through study. This is the first book of a three-book series prepared by E. J. Teichert, supervisor of Metallurgy Extension of The Pennsylvania State College, to provide a three-year course of training for persons interested in the iron and steel industry. It covers those fundamentals essential to an understanding of the work to follow and includes the primary processing of iron ore in the blast furnace and the manufacture of cast iron, wrought iron, and crucible steel. Every known care has been exercised to present the subject matter as clearly and concisely as possible. The extent of the work, however, prevents a treatment of all subject matter in minute detail. The student is expected to read the many references given for a more detailed description of the processes covered. In an effort to embody in the text the latest and best informa tion available on operating practice, it was necessary to secure that information where such practice existed. Grateful acknowl edgment is hereby extended to the following for their helpful assistance and cooperation in furnishing material included in the text The Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, The Philadelphia Drying and Machinery Company, The Wellman Engineering Company, The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, The Koppers Construction Company, The Harbison-Walker Refrac tories Company, Leeds and Northrup Company, William A. Haven of Arthur G. McKee and Company, The Detroit Electric Furnace Company, A. M. Byers Company, and National Malleable and Steel Castings Company. Acknowledgment has been extended in the text for all material excerpted from current literature. H. B. NORTHHUP, Director, Mineral Industries Extension. THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE COLLEGE, December, 1943.
