Book Ferroelectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Nylon 11 Poly Vinylidene Fluoride Bilaminate Films

Download or read book Ferroelectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Nylon 11 Poly Vinylidene Fluoride Bilaminate Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of a new class of polymer ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials, nylon 11/polyvinyi lidene fluoride (PVF2) bilaminate films, prepared by a co-melt-pressing method, is presented. The bilaminate films exhibit typical ferroelectric D-E hysteresis behavior with a remanent polarization, P(sub r), of about 75 mC/sq m, which is higher than the value of 52 mC/sq m observed for PVF2 or nylon 11 films measured under the same conditions. The coercive field, E(sub c), of the bilaminate films is approx. 78 Mv/m which is higher than that of either PVF2 or nylon 11 films. Measurements of the temperature dependence of the piezoelectric strain coefficient, d31, and the piezoelectric stress coefficient, e31, were also carried out. The bilaminate films exhibit a piezoelectric strain coefficient, d31, of 41 pC/N at room temperature, which is significantly higher than the PVF2 films (25 pC/N) and the nylon 11 films (3.1 pC/N). jg.

Book Ferroelectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Odd Numbered Nylons

Download or read book Ferroelectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Odd Numbered Nylons written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent discoveries in our laboratory of a new class of ferroelectric polymers--the odd-numbered nylons--led to another important discovery: a mechanism for the stabilization of the remanent polarization in these materials to their crystalline melting point. As the piezoelectric response of ferroelectric polymers is as stable as their remanent polarization, we have produced a set of high temperature stable piezoelectric polymers which can easily operate in a temperature range up to approximately 250 deg C. in addition, vie have now begun to examine new types of piezoelectric polymer films consisting of co-electroprocessed layers of odd-numbered nylon film and poly(vinylidene fluoride) PVF film, which are shown to exhibit a significantly enhanced response, compared to that of either component. Enhanced response is also observed for blended powders of PVF 2 and a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and tri-fluoroethylene.

Download or read book Electroactivity in Polymeric Materials written by Lenore Rasmussen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electroactivity in Polymeric Materials provides an in-depth view of the theory of electroactivity and explores exactly how and why various electroactive phenomena occur. The book explains the theory behind electroactive bending (including ion-polymer-metal-composites –IPMCs), dielectric elastomers, electroactive contraction, and electroactive contraction-expansion cycles. The book also balances theory with applications – how electroactivity can be used – drawing inspiration from the manmade mechanical world and the natural world around us.

Book Effect of Water Content on the Piezoelectric Properties of Nylon 11 and Nylon 7

Download or read book Effect of Water Content on the Piezoelectric Properties of Nylon 11 and Nylon 7 written by B. A. Newman and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of the piezoelectric properties of odd numbered nylons such as nylon 11 and nylon 7 are important, not only in their own right, but because they provide a way to examine the generality of concepts put forward to explain the piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) films. Over the past several years, A series of studies of nylon 11 and nylon 7 have been carried out. In a recent study appropriate sample preparation and poling techniques were described, which gave rise to mechanically unoriented but polarized films of nylon 11 with values of the piezoelectric strain coefficient, d31, as high as 7.1 pc/N. It is now understood that bulk polarization in poly(vinylidene fluoride) results from oriented dipoles in the crystalline regions, which may be caused by a ferroelectric switching process, phase transformations occurring during the poling process, or as a result of biased crystallization under high electric fields. The results of some of the studies on nylon 11 and nylon 7 are not easily understood using these concepts. (jes).

Book Pyroelectricity and Piezoelectricity in Nylon 11

Download or read book Pyroelectricity and Piezoelectricity in Nylon 11 written by Morton H. Litt and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) have been widely reported in the literature. Investigations on similar properties in other classes of polymers have been relatively restricted. This paper describes preliminary pyroelectric and piezoelectric results obtained with commercial films of Nylon 11. The results of dielectric constant measurements in the temperature range of 20C-130C are also presented. Nylon 11 films show quite high pyroelectricity and the evidence indicates that there is probably dipole orientation in crystalline regions. Charge injection or volume polarization, as well as dipole orientation was shown to contribute to the pyroelectricity unless the sample was thoroughly relaxed.
