Download or read book Energy Efficiency Upgrades for Fermilab Infrastructure Federal Energy Management Program FEMP Utility Services Case Study Fact sheet written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), originally built in the 1960s, old process and comfort chillers, pumps, and other related central cooling-system equipment were replaced, and pumping configuration changes were made to accelerator heat rejection systems. The employee office space and a 'process system' for the equipment and accelerators. The new 4500-ton cooling system isexpected to use 40% less energy and is free of ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons. Energy savings of 20 million kWh and a deamnd reduction of about 2.5 megawatts are expected, resulting in estimated cost savings of $900,000 per year.

Book Understanding Government Information

Download or read book Understanding Government Information written by Connie Hamner Williams and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates how government information can be used to engage students through inquiry and project-based activities, thereby providing opportunities for creative investigation and discovery. Many government agencies and institutions provide educators with curricula, lesson plans, data, and direction—all of it free. But to access this largely hidden world of government information, one needs an understanding of how this government information is organized and knowledge about how to best utilize the finding aids, databases, and other search mechanisms to help guide effective research. This guidebook shows you how to locate high-quality, effective lesson plans developed by the nation's best educators, access reliable government data, and find curated lists of free government sources that are theme-based and reference national standards in social studies and health. Understanding Government Information: A Teaching Strategy Toolkit for Grades 7–12 is ideal for middle school and high school librarians and teachers in all subject areas, public youth services librarians, as well as parents teaching their students in home school based programs. You'll learn how to access expert-developed lesson plans, documents, images, and other primary sources along with suggested activities. The book also includes a teacher toolkit that details strategies for lessons and student activities that can be used across the curriculum.

Book Superconducting Technology

Download or read book Superconducting Technology written by Kristian Fossheim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains an interdisciplinary selection of timely articles which cover a wide range of superconducting technologies ranging from high tech medicine (10-12 Gauss) to multipurpose sensors, microwaves, radio engineering, magnet technology for accelerators, magnetic energy storage, and power transmission on the 109 watt scale. It is aimed primarily at the non-specialist and will be suitable as an introductory course book for those in the relevant fields and related industries. As shown in the title several examples of high-c applications are included. While low-Tc is still the leading technology, for instance, in cables and SQUIDS, case studies in these areas are presented.

Download or read book Fermilab written by Lillian Hoddeson and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2009-08-01 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, located in the western suburbs of Chicago, has stood at the frontier of high-energy physics for forty years. Fermilab is the first history of this laboratory and of its powerful accelerators told from the point of view of the people who built and used them for scientific discovery. Focusing on the first two decades of research at Fermilab, during the tenure of the laboratory’s charismatic first two directors, Robert R. Wilson and Leon M. Lederman, the book traces the rise of what they call “megascience,” the collaborative struggle to conduct large-scale international experiments in a climate of limited federal funding. In the midst of this new climate, Fermilab illuminates the growth of the modern research laboratory during the Cold War and captures the drama of human exploration at the cutting edge of science.

Download or read book LHC Physics written by T. Binoth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the phenomenology of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, LHC Physics focuses on the first years of data collected at the LHC as well as the experimental and theoretical tools involved. It discusses a broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical activity in particle physics, from the searches for the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model to studies of quantum chromodynamics, the B-physics sector, and the properties of dense hadronic matter in heavy-ion collisions. Covering the topics in a pedagogical manner, the book introduces the theoretical and phenomenological framework of hadron collisions and presents the current theoretical models of frontier physics. It offers overviews of the main detector components, the initial calibration procedures, and search strategies. The authors also provide explicit examples of physics analyses drawn from the recently shut down Tevatron. In the coming years, or perhaps even sooner, the LHC experiments may reveal the Higgs boson and offer insight beyond the Standard Model. Written by some of the most prominent and active researchers in particle physics, this volume equips new physicists with the theory and tools needed to understand the various LHC experiments and prepares them to make future contributions to the field.
