Further work left uncompleted at his death is appearing. Major bibliographies of his work as well as of studies about his work are now in print. Ingar den's scattered articles on various questions in philosophy are being collected. And conferences devoted to his work are now held regularly. These diverse activities might suggest a similar diver sity in Ingarden's philosophical legacy. But such a sugges tion would be misleading. For interest in Ingarden's work has continued to centre on the one area which is arguably at the core of his achievement, namely the complex prob lems of aesthetics. In this field Ingarden seemed to pull together his various interests in ontology and epistemology especially. Here he brought those interests to focus on a set of issues that would occupy him creatively throughout the vicissitudes of his long and difficult scholarly life. More over, aesthetics is also the field where Ingarden perhaps most succeeded in orchestrating the many themes he owed to his phenomenological training while finally transposing the central issues into something original, something dis tinctively his own that philosophers can no longer identify as merely phenomenological. Ingarden's aesthetics not surprisingly has captured the interest today of many scholars in different fields.

Most classic models on the emergence of entrepreneurship either neglect or exclude the opportunity of engaging in both occupations at the same time. This view stands in contrast to increasing evidence that the majority of firm entry around the world occurs by individuals who simultaneously engage in paid employment and self-employment, an entry mode which has been termed hybrid entrepreneurship. 58% of all start-ups in Sweden have been found to be started in hybrid entrepreneurship and even in R&D-pursuing start-ups in Germany, this type of business entry represents 27% of all entrants. Next to this high prevalence of hybrid entrepreneurs among entrepreneurs, there are at least three reasons why these hybrid entrepreneurs should receive more attention. First, as hybrid entrepreneurs are often better educated than pure entrepreneurs, their business ideas might be expected to result in more high-growth ventures. Second, businesses run in pure entrepreneurship survive longer on average if they have been founded in hybrid entrepreneurship. Third, regardless of whether or not hybrid entrepreneurs generate greater economic impact than pure entrepreneurs, their relevance also emerges from their potential to evolve into valuable full-time businesses that otherwise would not have existed. This thesis therefore aims to advance research on hybrid entrepreneurship by revealing its importance for policymaking and entrepreneurship research, the various areas of research touched by it, and its role in entrepreneurial exit processes.

The epistemological ideas presented in the book are transformed into an empirical research approach that serves as a guiding principle for research. The approach originates from the aim of allowing the phenomenon to guide the research by which the phenomenon and its meanings will be illuminated, understood and explicated, and is supported by an open and "bridled" attitude to the phenomenon and the research. Based on a solid epistemological presentation and ideas about how an open and "bridled" approach can be established, some methodological principles are outlined for data gathering as well as for descriptive and interpretative data analysis, respectively. Finally, general scientific concepts such as validity, objectivity and generalisation are discussed in relation to the reflective lifeworld.
