Book Violence against Women and Ethnicity Commonalities and Differences across Europe

Download or read book Violence against Women and Ethnicity Commonalities and Differences across Europe written by Monika Schröttle and published by Verlag Barbara Budrich. This book was released on 2011-10-11 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws together both: theory and practice on minority/migrant women and gendered violence. The interplay of gender, ethnicity, religion, class, generation and sexuality in shaping the lives, experiences and choices of minority/migrant women affected by violence has not always been adequately theorised within much of the existing writing on violence against women. Feminist theory, especially the insights provided by the concept of intersectionality, are central to the editors’ conceptual frameworks.

Book Gender Space and Illicit Economies in Eighteenth Century Europe

Download or read book Gender Space and Illicit Economies in Eighteenth Century Europe written by Anne Montenach and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to contribute a multi-dimensional, multi-layered and gendered approach to the illicit economy in the historiography of early modern Europe. Using original source material from several countries, this volume concentrates on a border and transnational area—approximately the Lyon-Geneva-Turin triangle—located at the heart of European trade. It focuses on three products—salt, cotton and silk—all of which fuelled the black market between the last decades of the seventeenth century and the French Revolution. This volume offers an original contribution to wider studies of smuggling, illicit markets and women’s economic roles by taking into account the economic life of remote mountain communities and industrious cities. Showing that irregular practices were a structural characteristic of early modern economies, it provides insight into the opportunities offered to women in a highly flexible economy where licit and illicit activities were intermingled in a very complex way. This research monograph is aimed at a historical audience and constitutes a useful resource for students and scholars interested in gender history, social and economic history, urban history and French studies.

Book Officers Entrepreneurs Career Migrants and Diplomats

Download or read book Officers Entrepreneurs Career Migrants and Diplomats written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-08-19 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Money, money, and more money.” In the eyes of early modern warlords, these were the three essential prerequisites for waging war. The transnational studies presented here describe and explain how belligerent powers did indeed rely on thriving markets where military entrepreneurs provided mercenaries, weapons, money, credit, food, expertise, and other services. In a fresh and comprehensive examination of pre-national military entrepreneurship – its actors, structures and economic logic – this volume shows how readily business relationships for supplying armies in the 17th and 18th centuries crossed territorial and confessional boundaries. By outlining and explicating early modern military entrepreneurial fields of action, this new transnational perspective transcends the limits of national historical approaches to the business of war. Contributors are Astrid Ackermann, John Condren, Jasmina Cornut, Michael Depreter, Sébastien Dupuis, Marian Füssel, Julien Grand, André Holenstein, Katrin Keller, Michael Paul Martoccio, Tim Neu, David Parrott, Alexander Querengässer, Philippe Rogger, Guy Rowlands, Benjamin Ryser, Regula Schmid, and Peter H. Book Discrimination Against Women with Disabilities

Download or read book Discrimination Against Women with Disabilities written by and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do women with disabilities often have difficulty obtaining economic self-sufficiency and equal access to education and training? Women with disabilities should have an equal right to employment, and should be portrayed in ordinary situations in the media, thus letting society benefit from their talents. Including practical information on how to improve their situation this publication draws attention to these and other problems. Prepared by a group of specialists it analyses the underlying factors of a double discrimination based on gender and handicap and proposes actions to achieve real equality. It will be of interest for all those preoccupied with the fight to counter discrimination throughout Europe.
