Book excerpt: This collection of short poems is my tribute to actresses and singers I've admired, as well as models I've had the pleasure of working with. The poems pretty much were written in the order in which they appear.* I originally intended it to be a brief free ebook but found the original 22 pages did not tell the story I wanted to tell. It is a tale of my obsessions, therefore it includes only the stars and models I felt closest to. I wanted to join models I've photographed with the great stars of film, television and music. The pictures are joined by poems that give some history and in some cases, very intimate details. The manuscript somehow grew to nearly seventy pages. In the end, it took over a year to write and photograph. I can honestly say I'm happy with the results and hope my efforts reward the reader. *A last minute software glitch required the book to be reedited and reset for publishing. Giving it a more chronological order than it previously had.

DeShazer’s book looks specifically at breast cancer memoirs and photographic narratives, a category she refers to as mammographies, signifying both the imaging technology by which most Western women discover they have this disease and the documentary imperatives that drive their written and visual accounts of it. Mammographies argues that breast cancer narratives of the past ten years differ from their predecessors in their bold address of previously neglected topics such as the link between cancer and environmental carcinogens, the ethics and efficacy of genetic testing and prophylactic mastectomy, and the shifting politics of prosthesis and reconstruction. Mammographies is distinctive among studies of contemporary illness narratives in its exclusive focus on breast cancer, its analysis of both memoirs and photographic texts, its attention to hybrid and collaborative narratives, and its emphasis on ecological, genetic, transnational, queer, and anti-pink discourses. His analysis shows that transnational literary studies must operate on multiple scales, combine distant reading with close analysis, and investigate how literary forms develop on the move. The book begins by tracing the history of naturalist fiction from the 1860s into the twentieth century and the reasons it spread around the world. Hill explores the development of three naturalist figures—the degenerate body, the self-liberated woman, and the social milieu—through close readings of fiction from France, Japan, and the United States. Rather than genealogies of European influence or the domination of cultural “peripheries” by the center, novels by Émile Zola, Tayama Katai, Frank Norris, and other writers reveal conspicuous departures from metropolitan models as writers revised naturalist methods to address new social conditions.
