This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian Fellowship in Thought and Prayer This book on Fellowship is of such high value that I trust it will be widely read by clergy and laity. It is not a book which can be mastered at a single reading; it demands study. It is as fine a bit of practical mysticism as has come to myxattention for some years. The fellowship which it advocates is not of' an easy - going sort. It requires a hallow ing of the wholenature. The beauty of it is that there is no mission however humble, no parish how ever struggling that cannot find in this beautifully Christian program new inspiration and power. These are days for promoting and developing uni ties. This little book is an aid to that end. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian Fellowship, or the Church Member's Guide During the few past years, God has gra ciously poured out his Holy Spirit upon various regions of our country. Zion has broken forth on the right hand and upon the left, 'and has received a vast accession of converts from those whoiwere once aliens from the commonwealth of Israel. The church has gazed upon her new-born children with delight, and inquired, As for these, whence did they come? They are recruits from the world, they are deserters from the army of the prince of the powers of darkness, they have sworn allegiance to another Sovereign, one Jesus. They have identified themselves with his cause, they are the subjects of his kingdom, they have become strangers upon the earth, that they may be citizens in heaven, and they seek that better country. Book The Fellowship of the Spirit Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Fellowship of the Spirit Classic Reprint written by Charles an Anderson Scott and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fellowship of the Spirit Religion is any and all reaction of the spirit of man to the approach of God. What gives the New Testament its unique place in the history of religion is that it records the most universal approach which God has made to man, and also the beginning of the human reaction to that approach alike in thought and in conduct. It records the latter also from several different angles. And the concurrence of these two forms of response is of the highest importance. For it is evidence of the arrival of power. And the character and direction of the power attest its origin as of God. The name given to that power in the New Testament is the Spirit of God. Its character and direction are ascertainable because it is also the Spirit of Christ, and Him we know as the Jesus of the Gospels. The characteristic feature of the Church of the New Testament is that it is the Church of the Spirit. The Spirit is at once its creative, and its normative force. As experienced by those who felt it, the coming of the Spirit may be described as an overwhelming sense of sonship, and an overwhelming sense of brotherhood. The evidence of the New Testament provides material for the study of these two factors of the religious consciousness. And it accredits their reality by the testimony it contains to corresponding standards of ethical achievement. Book Fellowship with God Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fellowship with God Classic Reprint written by William Temple and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fellowship With God XVII was preached in New Quad at Rugby at a reunion when the number of Old Rugbeians present was almost exactly equal to the number of boys in the school. The other two sermons are added because they fill in to some extent the outline of thought which those already mentioned sketch out. All the sermons here printed deal in some measure with that Fellowship with God which is the profoundest need and highest blessing of men. The fundamental fact about human life is that God, in His Love, has entered into fellowship with us; the loftiest hope for human life is that we may, in answer ing love, enter into fellowship with Him. This is not to be found in the devotional life alone, nor in the practical life alone, but only in the perfect blend of both. Book Fellowship Hymns Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fellowship Hymns Classic Reprint written by Clarence Augustus Barbour and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fellowship Hymns This collection of Fellowship Hymns has been compiled and edited by a committee, under the chairmanship of Dr. Clarence A. Barbour. The aim of the committee has been to make such a selection as will 'represent the very best products of hymnology up to the present day. There will be found here the richest and most stately hymns of the Christian church, together with an admixture of such of the more modern popular hymns as are worthy of being placed in such company. It is hoped and believed that the book will be found useful in the deepening and strengthening of the most genuine spiritual life and in fostering a love for such music as will permanently enrich mind and heart. It will be observed that Christian life is viewed in both its subjective and objective aspects, and that due emphasis in the selection of hymns is placed upon the work of man for man and upon the advancement of the all-embracing Kingdom of God. It is earnestly hoped that Fellowship Hymns may prove helpful to Young Men's and Young Women's Christian Associations, to Church Brotherhoods and kindred organizations, and that the collection may find wide-spread welcome and usefulness in the devotional meetings of the Christian church. Baptism became synonymous with regeneration, and regen eration became, not the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit in the will and affections, but the external application of water with a Sort of magical formula. The Lord's Supper suffered a like change. The Lord Jesus was declared to be actually present in the bread and the wine placed upon his table, not present symbolically, not pres. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Back to Bethel: Separation From Sin, and Fellowship With God I want to carry you back to days long gone by, it may be thirty years ago, when you left your father's house in some country district as a young man or girl, and entered into some great city. DO you re member your first night there, and the tiny bedroom in which you knelt to say your evening prayer, and felt so lonesome and solitary? As you remained in the attitude of devotion it seemed as though the God Of your Old father and mother came very near you and spoke to your heart, and you promised from that night to be His faithful servant, so that until you died He would always find you ready to do His will. I want to know whether those vows have been kept? Has not that angel vision faded from your eyes? Has not that ladder died back into the dark? Have you not forgotten, or at least evaded, your solemn covenant? That young woman got a situation. She soon found herself beloved by one who could make a home for her She and he together have climbed the ladder of prosperity, and she is now at the head Of a beautiful home, and the angel ladder that linked her with God has faded away. She has drifted upon the current Of fashion and worldliness. She is further away from God tonight than She was that other night so long ago. Book Sermons on Christian Communion

Download or read book Sermons on Christian Communion written by T. R. Sullivan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sermons on Christian Communion: Designed to Promote the Growth of the Religious Affections Kowom'a, fellowship, 1 John i. 3. Truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son.' In this passage kol vcom'a-(koindnia) means -a joint participation of something with others. The same word also signifies a fellowship, or company of men joined together thy a common bond, for the purpose of obtaining certain advantages by means of their union. Among the heathens there were a variety of such fellowships, many of them for the purpose of celebrating the mysteries or secret wor ship of their gods. The particular god in honor of whom the fellowship was instituted was considered as the head of it, and the author of the benefits which the associated expected to derive from their fellowship in his worship. In this sense the word fellowship is with great propriety applied to the disciples of Christ, united, by their common faith, into one society or church for worshipping the only true God, through the mediation of his Son Jesus Christ, and for receiving from him through the same medi ation the great blessings of protection and direction in this life, and of pardon and eternal happiness in the world to come. Agreeably to this account of Christian fellowship, the Apostle, in this third verse, contrasts the heads thereof with the heads of the heathen fellowship, Truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son.'
