Little Buddy Goes to Scout Camp is a collection of real life happenings from Buds days as a young lad growing up and coming of age in the best era in American history, the 1950s. The reader is given an introduction into the life of Buddy as he packs up and heads off to Boy Scout Camp for a couple of weeks in the summer of his thirteenth year. The author provides insight into the life and mind of a middle class white boy from Baltimore during that time period through periodic flashbacks. No punches are pulled: this tale depicts life as best as it was remembered. Little Buddy and his best friend, Nathan, pull numerous pranks, rig sporting events to their advantage, evade beatings by enemy scouts, and even land the opportunity to explore what little they know of sex with a couple of girls on Parents Day. Each day provides new opportunities for this devious duo as they make every attempt to buck the system. However, as much fun as Buddy and Nathan make for themselves, the boys get themselves into a situation they cant control when, while on a self-guided hike, they are kidnapped by an old hermit and his pet wolf. Overpowered, they must rely on their mental acuity and prior scout training to turn the odds of survival in their favor.

Book The Aesthetics and Affects of Cuteness

Download or read book The Aesthetics and Affects of Cuteness written by Joshua Paul Dale and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-08 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cuteness is one of the most culturally pervasive aesthetics of the new millennium and its rapid social proliferation suggests that the affective responses it provokes find particular purchase in a contemporary era marked by intensive media saturation and spreading economic precarity. Rejecting superficial assessments that would deem the ever-expanding plethora of cute texts trivial, The Aesthetics and Affects of Cuteness directs serious scholarly attention from a variety of academic disciplines to this ubiquitous phenomenon. The sheer plasticity of this minor aesthetic is vividly on display in this collection which draws together analyses from around the world examining cuteness’s fundamental role in cultural expressions stemming from such diverse sources as military cultures, high-end contemporary art worlds, and animal shelters. Pushing beyond prevailing understandings that associate cuteness solely with childhood or which posit an interpolated parental bond as its primary affective attachment, the essays in this collection variously draw connections between cuteness and the social, political, economic, and technological conditions of the early twenty-first century and in doing so generate fresh understandings of the central role cuteness plays in the recalibration of contemporary subjectivities.

Book excerpt: What really makes a father? What kind of love resides in the heart of a man who takes on the raising of another man's child and all the responsibilitiesâ¦but under the law, none of the rights? Jonathan "Buddy" Cordova is a small-time criminal defense lawyer living paycheck to paycheck and practicing law out of his house in Fayetteville. Viewing himself as a modern-day Atticus Finch, he represents the poor, the indigent, the "probably guilty"âthe kinds of clients who usually end up in jail. He's shy, painfully awkward around pretty women, and carrying a dark secret, but can't help falling for Julie Saint, a kindergarten teacher and army widow with a small daughter.Consumed with love for his ready-made family, Buddy relishes his new role of husband and stepfather. Bonded over their mutual childhood losses, he and his stepdaughter become the best of friends. But when tragedy strikes, and the past returns for its reckoning, Buddy must find the strength to do what's right for his new family, even if it breaks his heart.
