Book Physical Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater

Download or read book Physical Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater written by A. P. Sincero and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2002-07-31 with total page 866 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The books currently available on this subject contain some elements of physical-chemical treatment of water and wastewater but fall short of giving comprehensive and authoritative coverage. They contain some equations that are not substantiated, offering empirical data based on assumptions that are therefore difficult to comprehend. This text brings together the information previously scattered in several books and adds the knowledge from the author's lectures on wastewater engineering. Physical-Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater is not only descriptive but is also analytical in nature. The work covers the physical unit operations and unit processes utilized in the treatment of water and wastewater. Its organization is designed to match the major processes and its approach is mathematical. The authors stress the description and derivation of processes and process parameters in mathematical terms, which can then be generalized into diverse empirical situations. Each chapter includes design equations, definitions of symbols, a glossary of terms, and worked examples. One author is an environmental engineer and a professor for over 12 years and the other has been in the practice of environmental engineering for more than 20 years. They offer a sound analytical mathematical foundation and description of processes. Physical-Chemical Treatment of Water and Wastewater fills a niche as the only dedicated textbook in the area of physical and chemical methods, providing an analytical approach applicable to a range of empirical situations Contents Introduction Characteristics of Water and Wastewater Quantity of Water and Wastewater Constituents of Water and Wastewater Unit Operations of Water and Wastewater Treatment Flow Measurements and Flow and Quality Equalizations Pumping Screening, Settling, and Flotation Mixing and Flocculation Conventional Filtration Advanced Filtration and Carbon Adsorption Aeration, Absorption, and Stripping Unit Processes of Water and Wastewater Treatment Water Softening Water Stabilization Coagulation Removal of Iron and Manganese by Chemical Precipitation Removal of Phosphorus by Chemical Precipitation Removal of Nitrogen by Nitrification-Denitrification Ion Exchange Disinfection

Book Environmental Permits

Download or read book Environmental Permits written by Donna Rona and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental permits enable regulatory agencies to control the disturbance and degradation of the environment caused by man's activities. Created by governments through legislation, the permit processes are administered by elected officials. Environmental legislation is relatively new as an independent field of the law: the laws themselves are primarily a conglomeration of older legal doctrines from other fields of law, modified and adapted for particular situations (Landau and Rheingold 1971). Like other laws, environmental laws are meant to serve and protect the rights and well-being of the public. However, like other laws, they have created confusion, a proliferation of costly paperwork, and some inequities. Numerous statutes, dealing with most aspects of pollution, exist at every level of government-so many, in fact, that they frequently conflict and overlap. These statutes establish a public policy toward polluters. They also empower the regulatory bodies that issue permits. It would be impossible to compile a list of requirements for each type of permit. Therefore, this book will acquaint the reader with the common aspects of environmental permits: their terminology, components, and application processes. This book covers the permit process from initial agencies/applicant contacts through application parts and procedures, to application approval. Special emphasis has been placed on bringing together copies of laws and lists of agencies as appendices. The appendices give the reader easy access to materials that will help clarify the permit process.

Book Water Resource Management

Download or read book Water Resource Management written by David E. McNabb and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about how water managers in the United States are responding to the call for increased effort to achieve sustainable supplies of clean fresh water for present and future generations. The author, himself a participant in the water supply chain, demonstrates that while water is indeed one of life’s most essential commodities, in many parts of the United States it is one of the most stressed resources. Throughout the book the author illustrates both the good and the bad efforts taken or not taken by water and wastewater management with real life examples. This book will appeal to the educators, students, volunteers, elected officials, regulators, and other participants with a role in helping the suppliers of water and wastewater services to achieve their goals providing clean, safe water on a sustainable basis.
