Book Federal Tax Policies and Farm Households

Download or read book Federal Tax Policies and Farm Households written by Ron Durst and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in Fed. tax provisions affecting both individual and business income taxes have reduced average tax rates for all farm households, resulting in the lowest tax burden on farm income and investment in a decade. Similarly, an analysis of the changes to Fed. estate tax policies suggests that increases in the value of property that can be transferred to the next generation free of the estate tax, combined with special provisions for farmers and other small businesses, have greatly reduced the number of farm estates subject to the tax and the amount owed. While nearly 10% of commercial farm estates could owe tax in 2009, only 1-2% of all farm estates are estimated to be subject to the Fed. estate tax this year. Charts and tables.

Book Federal Tax Policies and Low Income Rural Households

Download or read book Federal Tax Policies and Low Income Rural Households written by Ron Durst and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzes the increasing use of refundable tax credits targeted to low- and moderate-income households in the Federal individual income tax and determines their implications for rural America. The analysis matches a zip code approximation of the 2006 Rural-Urban Commuting Area Codes with IRS Individual Income Tax zip code and related data. These data are then used to examine the impact of the recent expansions to income tax credit programs on affected households. Expansions to both the refundable and non-refundable portions of the Earned Income and Child Tax credits have provided a major source of income support for low-income workers, especially in the South, where the rural poor are concentrated. Illus. A print on demand report.

Book Federal Tax Policies of Special Importance to Agriculture

Download or read book Federal Tax Policies of Special Importance to Agriculture written by Kenneth R. Krause and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: The organization of U.S. agriculture - farm numbers, size, and type of business organization - is apparently influenced by both Federal tax policy and traditional farm policy. Tax policies such as cash accounting or current expensing of farm costs, capital gains, corporate tax rates, and estate tax provisions seem to encourage some farms to expand, others to incorporate, and many to continue the same ownership. Tax provisions and tax treaties with other countries seem to encourage foreign investment in U.S. agriculture. A research challenge for the 1980's may be to integrate the best features of tax and agricultural policies to achieve stated goals for agriculture.

Book U S Agricultural Response to Income Taxation

Download or read book U S Agricultural Response to Income Taxation written by Hoy Fred Carman and published by Blackwell Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. Agricultural Response to Income Taxation is the first extensive look at how income tax policy affects agriculture in the U.S. Surveying a significant body of research, Carman documents the effects of federal income tax on production and investment decisions in agriculture, farm size, and, prior to 1986's tax reform act, tax-shelter investments by non-farmers. Guiding a reader through tax and farm policy with helpful flow charts and graphs, Carman discusses the impact of income taxes on land prices; decisions regarding machinery and equipment, orchards, and livestock; management practices that take advantage of cash accounting; capital gains tax and depreciation provisions; and tax equity. He also examines the interactions of income taxes with social security taxes, estate and gift taxes, and corporate income taxes. This book concludes with a timely review of how various tax proposals, from a fiat tax to a consumption tax, might affect farmers and agriculture in the U.S.

However, the information given does not cover every situation and is not intended to replace the law or change its meaning. This publication covers subjects on which a court may have rendered a decision more favorable to taxpayers than the interpretation by the IRS. Book Farm Household Decisions Under Various Tax Policies

Download or read book Farm Household Decisions Under Various Tax Policies written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study is devoted to the comparative static analysis and econometric estimation of farm household decisions under both standard and agricultural taxes. Accounting for labor market constraints a non-separable model is constructed implying increasing per-unit costs of accessing labor markets. To control for tax-induced adjustments related to labor market imperfections we compare the results to those derived from a separable approach, assuming perfect labor markets. Theoretical results suggest that most tax-induced responses are ambivalent mainly caused by shadow prices effects. Further, tax-induced effects differ between the two model versions. In particular standard taxes may imply production adjustments in the case of non-separability. Thus, income and value-added taxes are no more necessarily superior to agricultural taxes. Econometric analysis using individual household data from Mid-West Poland indicates remarkable responses to market surplus and input taxes. In contrast, standard and land taxes imply only negligible production adjustments. Thus, they seem to be superior, at least in the Polish case.
