To provide this power to large portions of rural America, the government also created five power marketing administrations (PMA), along with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). These facilities have been part of the electrification of America, especially rural America. In 1940, about 25 percent of all households lacked electricity and 70 percent of farms, whereas today, virtually all households have electricity.
